PLEASE Barry, make "Homemade Street Food" a series! This would be an amazing series of videos, showing people how to make delicious stonkin' street food at home.
Use potato starch, not corn starch! The dough without dairy holds together well enough to be shaped by hand - you can cut it into strips like you did with the first one, roll into straws or use a silicone ice stick mould to get a better shape. Also, if you don't want to fry all that dough, add one egg, roll the dough into walnut sized balls, press each down with your thumb to slightly flatten them and make a shallow indent, drop into a pot of boiling salty water, wait until they float and cook for 2-3 minutes and voilà, you have gumiklyjzy (kluski śląskie - Silesian dumplings) that go great with a stew or roast (the thumb prints turn into gravy pools, YUM).
Personally, I love chicken and dumplings. I have been toying with the idea of using potato dumplings in my next batch. What do you think about using the Silesian dumplings in the chicken and dumplings dish?
"Use potato starch, not corn starch!" these two ingredients are virtually identical once cooked into a dish. use whatever you have, there is no reason to go buy the other one for individual recipes.
@@FredCowgill They're primarily meant to be eaten as a side dish for a stew or roast (the thumb print is for sauce/gravy), or used in a similar way as gnocchi. I'm not sure they will survive cooking in a soup, but if you prepare a creamy chicken stew separately and pour it over the Silesian dumplings, it will work well. I love them with a mushroom sauce!
These look so good! Also, loving having Tom work the camera and sharing the screen with you. I knew you would find a dynamic that upgrades your videos while keeping true to your style.
When making a cheese sauce, add a teaspoon of whole grain mustard - mustard and cheese have a great affinity for one another, but here, you can't taste the mustard, but it does make the cheese taste 'cheesier'.
I do that with the skins ever time I peel a potato, I usually wash the potato first, then peel into a salted water brine and let sit for a few. Then dry off and deep-fry
Visit your nearest Polish shop or the Polish section in the world food aisle in your supermarket and get Winiary Dekoracyjny mayo - it tastes similar to Kewpie but is much cheaper.
These take me back about 26 years 😅 I used to get "RAS Patat" after a day at the stable. I'm very sad they aren't as easily available now in the Netherlands as then 😢
The dough already has corn starch! BTW if you add an egg, you can make kluski śląskie (Silesian dumplings; boiled, not fried) - they go great with a stew or roast.
When i was a kid i used to watch a lot of cooking shows, and a chef that's pretty popular here used the peel of the potatoes and throw them in the oven with a lot of spices (and a lot of paprika) and they looked delicious... I just remembered that! They look good but for some reason i don't risk to do it...
Hi Barry! I enjoy your video so much. With summer around the corner..Was wondering if you considered trying some camping food hacks or testing camp cooking gadgets? We always see these odd devices but we never know if it works
I have the little churro making gun that you load the dough in and it pipes it out like a caulk gun. It leaves hole in the middle. I bet you use that and then pipe sauce into the middle after. Long fries with ketchup in the middle... yum. Or pipe sourcream, butter, and chives... loaded baked potato long fries.
Now there's an idea worth exploring! Mayo, BBQ sauce, curry sauce, ... As an alternative could use one of those biscuit/fondant guns - usually no hole in te middle but a lot of funky shapes.
soup! potato water! great soup base. Have you thought of using a fish poaching long pan or even a 1/4 sheet steel pan, (33 x 23 x 5 cm), for doing the long item cooks? for those unusual fries?
Love the content but a word of advice with using that cooking spray. It isn’t advised to use it in an airfyer because it has quite a low smoke point and the lecithin in it will eventually build up a residue and be almost impossible to remove from the air fryer. You’re better off just putting cooking oil in a spray bottle
I was having a very special sort of fries while watching this video, very popular in The Netherlands. It's called "Kapsalon". You should look it up Barry. Might be something you want to try ;)
Those air-fried potato-peelings look like they'd make for an amazing low-cost bar-snack. And also a bit like pot-pourri, but actually edible pot-pourri. Come to think of it, that little trick could be a delicious way to save money and prevent food-wastage by making the absolute most of a potato.
for me, its one of these recipes I admire, that look super tasty.. but no, I dont think I would ever do them myself. I really hate frying stuff and I live now alone, so I dont even have the excuse to cook for other people.. :/
If you don't want to dry it, try making Silesian dumplings: add one egg to the dough, roll it into walnut sized balls, then press with your thumb to slightly flatten them down and create a small indent. Drop a batch in a pot of boiling salty water, wait until they float and take out after 2-3 minutes. Serve with a stew or roast - the indents turn into little sauce/gravy pools, yum! They freeze well (can be frozen raw or cooked) and you can heat them up the same way they were cooked or in a microwave.
I honestly thought the potato skins would get sucked up into the heating element. 😂 I'd try these, but I don't think the mashed potato would make it to the frying pan. 😋
Considering the first one worked fine. I think the "failure" of the second attempt was that you overloaded the pan with too much. Thus you needed to just stick with doing one at a time. Therefore, I do not believe the piping was necessary, you just needed to stick to the original method of laying one in the pan at a time.
Have you tried making a beer and cheese soup? It is delicious, but don't take a hoppy beer. Don't ask. I used an IPA, and it got far too bitter. And I like bitter. So, no IPA, more like an Amber. And, of course, add some bacon.
Would you make these? What would you put on them?

You're amazing barry😊😊😊❤❤❤
First time I have ever heard of these and I have watched alot of Japanese vids
Mayonaise, curryketchup and raw onions
I love this video!!!!!
How long was the Potato skins in the air frier.
PLEASE Barry, make "Homemade Street Food" a series! This would be an amazing series of videos, showing people how to make delicious stonkin' street food at home.
I would love that a series
All of a sudden I need this!!
Yes!!
Yes, please. Genius.
Loving the addition of Tom, you seem brighter and more relaxed with him there, can’t wait to see what you two are up to next!

It's been a little while since I used the fryer. Piping directly into the oil reminds me of making churros

I love Tom, he reminds me of Phoebe alot :D
I love him. And The fact He arrived out of nowhere l

Totally agree!
Loving this video!! Enjoying the new "dynamic duo" with you and Tom!! Keep it up!
Always looking for new fun things to try with my 10yr old daughter who loves to cook. Our weekend chef fun is sorted!! Thanks Barry! 🧑🍳
In the Netherlands we have "RAS patat" which is basically fried potatomash like this but less thick. Look it up! It's delicious.
Really enjoyed this video, and got my laugh for the day. Your fries look fabulous!
haha, my son loves your videos and he's only 14 months old, we sit and watch them at bed time and keep can't stop watching bless him x
I think these types of fries are ones that would benefit the most from a double fry. Once to give them rigidity and twice for that real crunch.
Barry, with them fire beats in the bg. love this channel longggg time 🔥
Dutch RAS patat is very similar. Usually not that long because they use a dispenser for that so they could make it as long as u want.
I always keep my potato skins snd deep fry them to chips
I think I will too now, actually tastier than crisps!
These are brilliant mate. Look awesome!
cheers bud

Hi Barry. Haven't finished watching current video but love it already. 😊 By the way, when can we see more content in your new kitchen? 😁😁😁
Sooooooon!
I do that with the skins ever time I peel a potato, I usually wash the potato first, then peel into a salted water brine and let sit for a few. Then dry off and deep-fry
You should pipe the potato mash in a spiral around the pan to make massive still-technically-curly fries.
Potato peels in the Air fryer are awesome! Just a little oil and flaky salt, satisfies that craving for fries.
I’d love to see you make homemade kewpie mayo! It’s a game changer Asian mayo, but it’s so expensive.
Visit your nearest Polish shop or the Polish section in the world food aisle in your supermarket and get Winiary Dekoracyjny mayo - it tastes similar to Kewpie but is much cheaper.
I would totally eat an order of those with some the cheese sauce or kewpie mayo.
I make potatoe peal crisps in the oven all the time when i have used potatoes. Zero waste, free snacks
Hi Barry I feel that your confidence has grown so much recently. Looking forward to seeing all your future videos 😊
You always make My day barry! Keep up the good work ❤❤❤❤❤
We also have these in the Netherlands, they are called raspatat
Looks a lot like a XL version of 'Ras patat'. Ras is a brand name I believe, patat means fries in Dutch. It's mash thinly piped directly into the oil.
Wow those long fries look amazing & thanks Barry n Tom 👨🍳🎥
Awesome barry! Suggestion from Colombia; Buñuelos, arepa de huevo, aborrajado
Nice! Is that where you are from Daniel?

I saw this on instagram they actually added flour and rolled it out cut and fried. Hmm maybe I’ll try both. Looked pretty good. Thanks!!
You don't need to add flour, the corn (or even better - potato) starch keeps the dough together well enough.
@@YaaLFH that is a great idea and added crunch. Thank you!
You could also use the dough to make smiley face mashed potato’s but it requires corn or potato starch it holds it together.
The dough already has corn starch!

Love the potato peel idea. Definitely trying that.
Enjoying the new style. Cheers, Barry :)
Speaking of butter, have you tried making compound butter? Guga foods does a good compound butter.
Those look great!
Suggestion - use a skimmer (not tongs) to remove fries from oil.
Those long foot fries look stonking good , I think I would put seaweed flakes all over those
Great idea
Aw man they look good
thanks a bunch
@@mrbarrylewis definitely going to give them a try❤️
These are like the Dutch Raspatat! Give them a try next time in Amsterdam!

Barry I don’t know if you know but TUC cheese biscuits come in Paprika flavour!
I have lived in Japan for over 20 years and not even ONCE have I seen fries that long. People name stuff in the most spurious way, seriously.
This is the first time I've seen a cheese sauce made just dumping the milk in. Usually it's a little at a time until it it smooth, then the rest

the dutch have exactly the same but short normal size
its called : ras patat

You have to wonder why McCain have never come up with these in their frozen chip range?
Would Cadburys Smash or instant Mash Potatoes work better as it makes a thicker mash?
It would work just as well as the second dough he made without dairy.

Can you use potato starch instead of corn flour to make this recipe
Yes, it's even better with potato starch.
what if you went in a spiral all the way to the center of the pan how long could you make the "fry"?
I thought those long fries were just Homer's two hairs before Moe stole the flaming drink recipe.
I steam potatoes - it's less messy than boiling and doesn't take as long 😃
and I'd have put a shedload of garlic granules in the cheese sauce along with the smoked paprika.
I did it once before we had to fry them cold otherwise they spreaded out
Surely they should all be fried at the same time and served whilst they are all the same temperature?
Send some my way!
Hi Barry, we have an air fryer but as soon as we try to use it it doesn’t heat up, especially at 180’c don’t suppose you have any ideas
Looks like it's faulty, ask the seller for a replacement.
How about stain glass potatoes, or tornado fries?
I honestly thought the potato skins would get sucked up into the heating element.
😂
I'd try these, but I don't think the mashed potato would make it to the frying pan. 😋
Thanks for another outstanding video. Could you fellows try to make deep-dish Chicago-style pizza?
Fanta roast potatoes next love to see or how many flaver roast potatoes can do in one video 😂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Start to finish it made me think of potato churros.
I didn't know it when I commented, but potato churros are a thing "churros de potata"
What about doing this like a funnel cake instead of french fries?
This needs to be done with sweet potatoes 👀
If you do a Halal Snack Pack, Australia will love you forever.
Barry, have you tried the Alka-Seltzer Cheese sauce yet?
Chloé is gonna be chuffed that the best long fries are dairy free !
What I would put on them? paprika, garlic powder, and sour cream.

Barry Lewis - "will it roast potato"
Try Pringles mash potatoe
He already did that more than once.
Why did you use corn starch and not potato starch?
Probably because people in USA think in corn so even if original recipe used potato starch, they substitute it for corn starch.
How is the pizza place coming up??
Sorted Food should collab with ya :P it'd be awesome to see it!
With how long they are, I'd mess with people's minds and call them, "Sticky Fries"... :P
Did you think of piping them onto the George foreman? As it has channels to keep the fries straight
