- We go racing with no radiators in our cars, which means you have to protect your engine so you make it to the finish line all while trying to beat the opposition.

Would be really cool to see a no radiator race but with most of the race in the surf. Make it a long endurance to try and really push the strategy.
Best strategy for this is something lightweight, with low rolling resistance, no turbo or superchargers, and as big of an engine as possible. Then accelerate slowly and gently and use as high of a gear as possible. Lower gear ratio could help as well
Naaah. Air-cooled engine ;)
@@DeddilyThat’s cheating xD
I liked Jo's engine-cooling strategy of driving in the river.
Must say Alex has the advantage from all those solo destruction
races he has done erlier.😅
I've just got round to watching this and I felt I needed to say how much respect I have for Alex and the rest of the FailRace crew. I really enjoyed the idea behind this video and it was really entertaining to watch. The fact that FR keeps it organic by not shilling out to sponsors and stuff really makes me respect Alex and the crew all the more! ❤
Next challenge: Racing without front brakes
THIS
YES YES
ID PAY TO WATCH THAT
A modern car would have a low coolant indicator because yes... if the coolant temp sensor requires liquid coolant and there is none.. you would in all logic get no reading on the temp gauge. Having no radiator means there is no coolant to read the temp of. BeamNG forgot lol.
The gen of cars they are racing would definitely be old enough to show an overheating reading on the temp gauge... d o n ' t a s k m e h o w i k n o w
Actually ,some cars have engine block temp sensors so I guess that works?
This was a really intriguing way to challenge your selves well done lad

The best strategy is to wind it out hard in the lower gears but when you get higher up and WOT is only gaining you a couple more mph up top shift all the way up and back down to maintenance throttle.
About engine heating mechanics in this game. SOMEHOW ANY SORT OF ADDITIONAL POWERED INTAKES (Turbocharger/Supercharger) WILL heat the engine faster than if it was Naturally Aspirated. How did I discover that? I did some Car Delivery missions in this game already, and I have "Pre Heated Engine" option turned OFF. So I was VERY surprised when I saw drag-prepared Burnside Special (with a powerful supercharger) being heated up quickly when I was full throttling it, when Naturally Aspirated Burnside Special took it time to heat the engine to a middle level (aka "working temperature") of heat. So I knew already some of FailRace crew won't make it to the finish line when they started to use turbocharged cars.
Also quick tip - you can forcibly cool down the engine (and brakes too) by driving over water and make sure that at least SOME of engine components (not intakes tho) touching the water and the in-game surface temperature is lower than 30°C (lower than 78°F).
Yep turbos/superchargers are very inefficient youll notice the same thing with gas mileage
thats how forced induction works? when you compress air it heats up, thats why intercoolers exist. When you add a hotter air charge to an engine of course its going to overheat faster than a NA engine, especially at higher boost/power levels.
Forced Injection puts hot air through the intake, obviously it causes more heating. That's also why on turbo cars ingame, the turbo overheats first,
@@FearlessLeader2001 Is that the reason why intercoolers have been invented? To protect BOTH the engine and forced induction from fast overheating?
Yes that's how engines work
Pooowwwwaaaahhhhhh
Smart idea for the drivers who had their hoods open. In theory that helps to cool engines.
But PHYSICALLY I suppose that still didn't implied in BeamNG Drive because of how complex and complicated that is.
Like I remember Forgotten Mustard did the same experiment before where he intentionally removed the radiator from the car and set the wind speed to a literal hurricane speed and that didn't help the engine cool down: it locked up as usual as if there wasn't even ANY wind (apart of the car literally "smashed" to the nearest wall because of wind speed).
@@Madanbek_The_Dragon_Lover Yea the only time wind speed helps cool the car is if the radiator is still in the car car. so if you just daamage it and keep it in the car wind speed helps but if you just remove it entirely it doesnt.
It's a negligible difference on a water cooled engine. They just don't have the surface area.
Even on a lot of air cooled engines they have radiators for the oil, because that helps cool the engine.
I was wondering if having the hood up would create drag that would negate the extra cooling by making the car harder to move
@@swegboy0238 yes , that technique is kind pointless because there is no way that you're going to cool an engine block with just air, metal doesn't transfer heat as much and efficiently like water does and the added air resistance is just extra stress to the engine.
I had a few beers whilst watching the football and came up with an amazing idea....Limmy doing a guest STH....it would probably need a language warning from Alex at the start but ohh what joy it would be!
You should do this again next time as an enduro race. No lap limit, just who goes farthest
Kevin!!
Hirochi Talent :o
can you play BeamNG Drive in VR ? would be so cool
Yeah you can ,I guessing you're asking. It would be cool if he tried it .
i like when you do "only in beam" things in beam
Now you should also limit the fuel, so you have two things to worry about, and you can't just floor it the whole time, otherwise the engine will get down on power and you will eat though gas faster.
This truly is a Fail Race: racing before the engine fails!
Another version of this I'd love to see is you all in diesels doing a lap of the oval track!
i believe the best idea would have been to build a super light cvt 3 or 4 cylinder, probably with naturally aspirated diesel (if it can work) and front wheel drive (to reduce weight and power loss), what would be your build ?
You should try BeamNG with VR!
You could have put slicks on this Dunekicker, they work surprisingly well.
all hail stevie
That was a fun watch.
I really hope you chose the K-Series first as a nod to the Rover K-Series and it's notorious hunger for head gaskets.
I am honestly surprised that Laddo or Jo didn't run electric in the final round.
Great vid.
There's no doubt that a radiator is quite important for vehicles, especially ones that race. It was fun to see how different the outcome was for each vehicle used in this video 😯

Love it.
watching you do this challenge with the automatic gearboxes was so painful and a great reminder that one of the main reasons I bought a manual car was because an automatic is so freaking indecisive
Approaching a corner is a good example of it happening.
Automatics: You approach corner in say Gear 4, it shifts up to Gear 5 a few seconds before you need to slow down again. Ugh.
Manuals: You approach corner in say Gear 4, you stay in Gear 4 despite redlining and then shift down for the corner.
Granted the engines should be seizing rather then steaming, and that you should have no temp reading on the gauge being there is no coolant to read the temp of, it is even more silly, and silly is entertaining. Even unrealistic it added an element of excitement.

the engine popped just before the finish 🎉🎉🎉
Does BeamNG simulate different fuels? If it does, wouldn't Methanol fuel keep the engine cooler for longer?
Yes it does , actually if you were to take a D-series diesel v8 around this compare it to v8 petrol, you get very different results, not only that ,the temperature of the engines affects the engines way of using the fuel and will burn more depending on many factors ,really cool how its actually simulated.
You were in 4wd for the final race...
Would it have been possible to build a piccolina with the air cooled engine and still have it above .220 p/w ratio?
I wonder why no one thought to build a VW beetle for the last race….
I don't know why I find it kinda cute, just human. The stuffy nose when you're nose is like a whistle 1:15
why didnt anyone use the Piccolina, it has an air cooled engine, but maybe thats considered cheating
i hope you didnt test this out beforehand...
that would all kinds of cheating.
i guess it would be a cheat to use the air cooled engine :D
Picollina
Static racing?💀💀 like no suspension
Ooooooh 🤔☠️
@failrace could you link the map your racing on for us please? or respond with the name :D Thanks.
It's motorsports playground on the repoditory
Don't they have air-cooled engines in Beam? Give me the chance to run anything and I would run an air-cooled engine LOL No radiator? No problem.
Yup ,picollina and I think 2 others?
If you need a 700hp Subaru to replace your sa motor sound intro lmk!
No one cares about your head gasket eater bud lmfao
Longbow, are you on keyboard???? i saw you wiggling in that one corner
It's just lag I imagine lol
Why turn the engine off? Just go all out and throw it in neutral.
This definitely wasn't inspired by muye
Woah, im very early
What track is this
It is a fun video to watch, a small shoutout to MuYe would go a long way
Yeah, wanted to ask if they coordinated to make videos on the same topic at (almost) the same time
Who?
@@superman5150 italian youtuber, does a lot of BeamNG videos, best known for the "Every time I crash..." series and "Questionable racing", of which the latest installment of the latter series was racing without radiators
@@superman5150 MuYe is another beam creator, who made a similar video recently
Just a coincidence. I suggested it and Ive never heard of them.
if anyone knows that name/link to this map mod please let me know as i have tried to find it but i have had no luck
It’s Motorsports Playground on the repository.
@@SpaceGood. Thanks soo much, now I can do some proper testing with my custom configs
Alex, please fix the bloom setting. The last videos of Beam have a horrible kind of overexposure, like the finish line or the wall at second 0:15 . It started with the tunnel map you recently played on and it literally hurts. I can't watch the Beam videos in this way, I hope you will change your settings.
What is even steaming if there is no coolant?
Muye did it first 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
Muye copy?
Saw a video of Muye not long ago of the same thing (kinda), i wonder if it's just a coincidence or if it had i spired them
Can't believe u didn't even mention or linked Muye in this video, absolutely just copy paste someone's ideas
IKR
I don't think it's that rare of a concept to fairly accuse them of copying Muye. Even if they are, it really doesn't matter.
this video very well could’ve been filmed before muye posted his video. No radiator racing is far from an uncommon concept. Crash hard did something along the lines of this in 2021 but last i checked nobody tagged him and some may argue driven til destruction could’ve inspired this as well within the filming crew. You shouldn’t just automatically assume it’s copying
That's not how ideas work. Just because YOU saw it somewhere else by someone no one has heard of does not mean anyone else watches that persons videos. This has likely been done often.
