Love the complexity...but doesn't anyone attack using kicks or wild punches. here it seems to suggest everyone is doing same wild slack arm attack with open hands ....and no punches. that's not real.
N Kel it’s the problem of the aikikai aikido but few sensei same my sensei in france teach irimi nage can become a neck wrist kaiten nage can be effectued with an atemi at the head with the knee sankyo with a jab... lots of martial arts contains aikido, but it’s the« real aikido » with atemi like in aikibudo, koteaeshi ok ikkyo are used in the french army and i think others moves of aikido are in Systems (krav maga, Tior, ...) Sorry for my bad english 😉
It's a non competitive martial art. The people aren't attacking, they are grabbing or striking in a predetermined fashion. But that is an over simplification of what they are doing, which is ukemi. Also this is a demonstration, one that doshu does over and over again wherever he goes. It's like showing a textbook to people but it's not shown in pictures but in person. Again it's a Japanese budo without fighting and competition and that is part and parcel of what Aikido is.
