    Hardcorps itself wasn't that tough, it was the 8 day defensive exercise before hand that hurt. Still remember it 20 years on.

      I absolutely hated the defensive phase with digging in with ETs, sitting in a pit full of water and little sleep. I always thought we were training for previous wars like Vietnam rather than modern day conflicts. This was in the 1990s so l imagine things changed after East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan.

    I thought it way back when and I still think it now, while I get the screaming aspect of the bayonet fight is to instill confidence and shock the enemy it is more detrimental than beneficial when two men meet to actually fight. It is hard enough already during a close combat fight without wasting precious oxygen screaming..

    Looks like the training our ADF gets is pretty comprehensive, not to mention fun. I wish i did it as a young bloke, instead i stuck it out doing martial arts getting my black belt and enjoying civilian life, but in the ADF you get so much more range of training that you won't in civ life and for that i'm both happy for those who get to do it and jealous too, on top of all that you pretty much get set for life with a decent annual wage, enough for a down payment on a house at least, minimal overheads, reduced tax, reduced medical expenses.. all in all, the sacrifice you make to be part of it for a bunch of years is actually quite minimal compared to what you get out, unless of course you're the unfortunate one who takes home severe PTSD, loss of limb/s or loss of life etc.. never-the-less the fantasy of joining stays with me still to this day, partly thanks to my enduring spirit i cultivate at the gym and with my martial arts training, and partly due to my ambition to be better at survival, but largely the incentive for me is to be part of a team just like I am in EA's BF4. It just sucks that I'm too free spirited to join, whereas the military for good reason appears strictly and inorganically regimented (it's got to be streamlined like a KFC kitchen to be efficient), I've worked real hard and paid top dollar for my own training and my own medical and all that to feel like my own boss and with all of that I act with integrity and determination and all those good things, sure I'm not likely to be anywhere close to a down payment on a house in my immediate future and I accept that that's the trade off, but to have someone 'overlording' me as I imagine you would have in the military, that would be an extreme thing for me to adjust to and that's the block I hit every time I go to enlist. I wish there was someone from the service who could reach out with a unique placement for me as someone who's done a lot of self-work because I do feel what I have would be valuable, but correct me if I'm wrong, to be "jar-headed" seems a waste of all who I am.. a 34yr old with 3 jobs just to survive a life of ironically limited 'freedom'.

      @@titaniumquarrion9838 The ADF is voluntary and the men and women who chose that path are generally to be commended for it. The biggest challenge a lot of veterans face is having to deal with Veterans Affairs who are notorious for screwing people over. There's also the way Ben Roberts-Smith VC has been treated by both the Australian Govt and the media. The wokeness that has seeped into the upper echelons of the ADF is an absolute embarrassment.

      Probably man. Im in Singo atm. Theres a high % of guys with hip fractures etc. There was a 35 yr old crossfit maniac at kapooka who was advised he was too old for infantry. Not because of fitness but what it does to bones and joints. Get a good check up by some doctors first to make sure your body is able to cope with the hard training.

    • @mounteden280

    Australia's military is far too small to achieve the task required of it as it is vastly dwarfed in terms of numbers of personnel and equipment by all of its neighbours. This is the result of decades of underfunding and neglect by its politicians who prefer to focus on quality of lifestyle type issues at the expense of fundamental matters of existence. Enabling this strategic apathy and negligence is the misguided belief that US military power is nearly unlimited and globally dominant and that it would automatically come to the defence of Australia should any of her neighbours attack it.
    The US is not obligated under the ANZUS Alliance to send troops or equipment to our aid in the event of an attack on us. They are only obligated to engage in talks with us and nothing more.
    However, what is clear is that no one would risk attacking us if we were nuclear-armed. Better to prevent war than to try to prosecute one inflicted upon us.

    • @BleachCuresBlindness
      @BleachCuresBlindness 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly, the only area the ADF can compete with the rest of the world is our special forces units. Our navy, airforce and Army is embarrassingly underpowered and underfunded and would not be able to defend Australia against any invading force without extensive support from the US and our allies in Europe. Still plan to enlist but I’m not naive, we’d completely fold going up against almost any opposing military force. And like you said, we aren’t part of nato and nobody is really obligated to support us. Our government is outright incompetent in making decisions concerning our national security and is completely responsible for our blatantly apparent lack of defence. That being said, sign me up. I’m in it for the experience, qualifications and perks. The pay is enough for me to make a living and support a family but the second our incredibly overbearing government oversteps and strips us of the rest of our individual rights and freedoms. I’m happily leaving this island and taking my acquired skills elsewhere in the world.
