Great to see you last night, Stephen! My nephew and I love your work showing all the different sides of Blackpool - always done with great knowledge of and affection for the town. Seeing you absolutely made our day! Your fan from Swindon (formerly of Highfield Road, Blackpool).

Yes the decorating store we use it for a lot of our decorating.
When we decide to do a room up we come and have a short break and go to the wall paper shop as it's the best one we have ever been to.

Those new properties on the corner of Henthorne Street was on the site of the old Edward Henthorne Builders Merchants. And Savoy Timber is on the site of the old Ribble Bus Depot. Where Farmfoods were or are on Devonshire there used to be a motorbike dealership called John Halls. Those railings round what used to be Devonshire Hospital I’m quite surprised they were never taken down and melted like the ones outside the General Post Office in Blackpool for the war efforts. Corner of Coopers Way was the old White glazed tiled C&S ( Catterall & Swarbrick Brewery. I’m more familiar with the East side of Talbot Road heading towards the Layton Cemetry as this is the area where I was born and bred and could give you some insight into what life and shops were like growing up there in the early sixties ( I wouldn’t have changed it for the world ) we lived in a two up two down some great memories. As always Stephen another great video.

Thanks, Stephen. The traffic sounds Surprisingly soothing in your video. Some interesting sights made even more interesting by your commentary. The silver grey Ford Transit van at the top of Coleridge road has clearly been dumped as it has no number plate and all the tyres are flat.

Savoy Timber was originally the Ribble bus garage, opened in 1932 and closed in 1987, then being bought by Abbotts Coaches.
The Ribble & Standerwick coach garage, meanwhile, was where the Lidl now is on Devonshire Road, that also closing in 1987, two years before Ribble were taken over by Stagecoach.

I believe Talbot Road was originally called New Road hence the pub name New Road Inn. If my memory serves me right Savoy Timber was a garage for either National Coaches or Ribble Buses in the 1970’s. The fenced off area on the corner of Gorton Street and Talbot Road was a small car breakers in the late 80’s early 90’s.

The Savoy Timber building was originally the garage for Ribble Busesl The tyre place diagonally opposite that was a drive through car wash back in the late 60`s/early 70`s.

The present day North station was the original excusion platforms that extended the normal North station, The latter station was situated between Talbot Road and the present tracks (basically the Apollo site). The Sainsburys petrol station was also part of the Apollo car park, the cheapest in Blackpool.

Great new walk loved it, and those work of art railings around the old hospital, councils don't realize if they let things go the area becomes a dumping ground for lazy people, in Bristol we have Bristol South Baths still in use, it is a listed building but the council have ignored the lack of care the people with the cans have a right s****ole, no money in the kitty as the money is needed to pay the top management, The top boss at Bristol Waste(council company) was paid £224,000 for just over 10 months in 2023 and services are still being cut.

Great memories brought back for the Farmfoods site formally John Halls Motorbikes and a Gym. Had a couple of Suzuki's in the 70's and Bond Bug for my 21st in '74! Finished if with a BMW R100RS in '84 before they went pure Honda. C& S Brewery site was noted for its 'aroma' of hot yeast and hops that emanated from it, today's wokeflakes be shutting the place down for climate pollution.. I've got a couple of stone beer containers with C&S on when clearing out some old storage boxes when Maintenance Manager at the Clifton Arms Hotel Lytham, a C&S director/owner decades ago used to live in the top floor of the Queen Street annexe as their private residence, his wife is supposed to haunt the floor as the 'White Lady'...
