  • Miri is a city in northern Sarawak, Malaysia, on the island of Borneo.
    It is the second largest city in Sarawak, with a population of about 360,000, and located in close proximity to Brunei.
    It is the government administrative centre of Miri District in Miri Division. Miri is the birthplace of Sarawak's and Malaysia's petroleum industry, which remains the major industry of the city.

    Miri looks really nice, and all the buildings and houses look like new,
    perhaps due to major repairs etc. however kind of disappointing
    to only see few people walking around town, is that due to timing perhaps?..
    and seems like the black and white stripe designs on outer sides of sidewalks
    need re-painting, perhaps they did already. having tuk-tuks or rickshaws would make
    the town more lively as well. cheers.

      Mirian here, not a lot of people fancy walking. Only the old-towners do. Tourists also prefer walking (especially western tourists). Majority do not prefer public transports too.

      Sweet. I've always wanted to visit Borneo . . . well, as many of the islands in that region as possible really. The wilderness seems truly amazing. I know that in World War II, malaria was a very serious issue throughout much of oceania, but then it was also an issue in Florida at that time too.

    • @aidiliqmal4447
      @aidiliqmal4447 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do visit Borneo. It is rich with nature and there are so many things to experience. Food and tourism that is. I suggest you to visit Sabah. The waters are crystal clear compared to the one you see in Miri. I heard a lot of good rumors there.

      @JwaMadon 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      kees Colijn I'm sorry? I am a Mirian. And I have to tell you that is not the ONLY beach in Miri. And yes it is dirty because the one that you went is not open for public. It is near to the construction site. They are building Marina Bay and they only opened up that area these few years. So no one has the right to go to that area for recreation or anything else. Try checking out the ones in Lutong, Tanjung Lobang or the ones in Beach Republic, Esplanade, Marriott, Park City Everly or further up. You will see how the REAL beach looks like. The water isn't as clear as the ones in Sabah, because you know what Miri is dealing with every single day.

    • @keeziwalks
      @keeziwalks  9 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @JwaMadon
      @JwaMadon 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should. There are lots of beach in Miri with better view and enviroment. I am pretty sure it is not from the sea, that place used to be a forest or a jungle I can say. And it is quite close to the market. That sums up everything. The trashes from the fish market.

      Miri was my hometown and I have very good memories of it. Unfortunately, many people are still very uncaring about environment issues. I don't know why this is. I wonder if the Government promotes cleanliness and whether the school teaches it. The beach area is really a sad sight. The town area has been looked after quite well for a long time now and many parts that used to be smelly and dirty are spotless now, believe it or not. But then, that was 5 years ago when I last visited. Hopefully it'll stay that way.

      I understand but we can't say something if we don't know the real situation of what happened. if you have ever and there live a coastal area then you know what happened why the situation is dirty as you can see, if you examine it properly it is not a garbage dump but comes from the sea and is carried by the current. This incident not only happened in Miri (Video shown above) it also happened in other countries. For your information I have been living there for over 10+ years. Love and Peace.
