- A playthrough of Sega's 1993 children's shoot 'em up arcade title SegaSonic Cosmo Fighter (セガソニック・コスモ・ファイター).
All of the dialogue in this playthrough has been subtitled in English. I did the translation and subtitling myself.
Sonic Cosmo Fighter was an interesting rarity that only was just recently rediscovered, dumped, and added to MAME so you can experience it through the wonders of emulation. It was a ride-style game (like Rail Chase, or a super-tame Afterburner) for small children. This video does actually show the whole game (it is really that short) and the best possible rank you can earn.
Even though it is technically a shoot 'em up, don't be fooled into thinking you're getting a classic genre title with Sonic sprites thrown in - it's incredibly slow and simple, and not at all difficult. I don't think it's possible to get killed - you get a lower rating if you do poorly. It does look and sound pretty nice for what it is, I'll definitely give it that.
Still, this is about as obscure as a legit Sonic title gets, and is worth a quick look, just to see some of the weird things Sega tried. This one is quite similar to another Sonic arcade kiddie title (Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car, such is far stranger than this even), along with the other bizarre Sonic gimmick game Sonic Popcorn Shop.
Oh, and it was developed by Sega AM1. Yeah, just think about that one for a moment :)

It's as cool as it is weird - it's a Sonic kiddie ride arcade machine, it's a shoot 'em up with Sonic flinging missles at Eggman, and it was developed by Sega AM1. Huge thank yous to the guys that just recently dumped this for play on MAME!

In hindsight, Tails works better for shoot-em ups considering he turned the Tornado into a Transformer.
Could you do a translated play through for Sonic Popcorn Shop? I’ve always wondered what he was saying, especially if you bring up the error screen.

When I lost to eggman while playing this, one of the attendants asked "how did you do that?" - obviously they have never seen someone get that far in the game before.

So much for Eggman's "strength", he didn't even do anything and his robot proved to be equally useless
Hugo Hikari that is because this is a kid's game and they didn't want the children to feel unworthy to play Sonic games, but to have fun and enjoy themselves.
It's a prototype, it's not a finished game.

Since it was discovered and some videos been at youtube, I think I 've read on Spain some arcade hall have a copy for play it.

Would you ever consider doing a translation of Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car? The only "translation" out there seems like someone just made up dialogue that made some level of sense and called it a translation.

I personally would criticize Sonic for his car racing games but I have no issue with a space shooter. He owns a plane and I never had a problem with this as it seems mor practical for him as opposed to a car. This game seems a project to me, an idea for a future game and I rather like it. I give it 5 stars!]:3

Did you know there was a lost english dub of this game and a lost spanish dub of Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car? They are not dumped yet, but lets see if we can resolve these problems by hacking the game with dubs and text. Idk if its something about bootlegs, but we will see.

Sonic doing these things, while technically out-of-character, is plausible in these situations, seeing as though he was more meant to be the face of these arcade machines at the time, rather than actually having canonical adventures and the like.
It's Eggman we should be worried about. Building and attacking through an entire spacefleet of machines? Plausible, given his character. Preventing Sonic and friends from providing popcorn? A bit of a stretch for his character, seeing as though this does not provide for his own goals. Antagonizing cars on the street with his own car? Now, that's just pushing it.

It's a supermarket ride... like... have you ever seen those cars or pony rides that make sounds and rook when you put a quarter in?
This is exactly that but with a lick of interactivity to keep the toddlers entertained.
The fact you can't continue after level 1 even if you didn't lose should give that away.

Because they never bothered translating those lines. These machines have the option to be switched into USA and export modes, which causes the in-game text to be English, instead. It's only the voice acting that's still Japanese.
@@KarjamP Actually that's just how segasonic popcorn shop is. There is a fully english version of this machine which was released outside of japan
