    Thanks a lot, you did not just save me money, but the whole watch...since there is no specialized dive shops who could do it for me. Thanks again. Thumbs up

    Great video. One thing that bit me in the butt was that I did not keep pressure on the back of the watch when I was reinstalling it. The spring pushed the back out a little, and messed up the O-ring seat. I tested the watch by putting it in distilled water. After a couple of hours, I noticed water in the display. I took it out and dried it overnight with a fan. I repeated the process, but kept pressure on the backing. Kept it in distilled water for 24 hours, and no leaks. Will take it down to about 100 ft in a few weeks. I'll post again if it leaks. Use distilled water for the testing. If it leaks (like mine did), it is likely not to cause any damage. Testing it on your first dive will likely ruin the computer if it leaks. Lesson learned - keep pressure on the backing when replacing it. If it moves before you get the both screws snug, remove and reset the O-ring.

  • @trevorgale1176

    FYI If you have a Smart Air version, the kit comes with a 2430 battery, the Air version uses a 2450 battery. Everything else is identical.

    The manual says do not lubricate, although when changing the battery for the first time I have noticed there was some lubricant on the original O-ring.

    • @atlantisfreediving
      @atlantisfreediving  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Generally you have to apply O-ring lube (silicone grease) when changing or servicing them. Some exceptions are likes of action camera o-rings on UW housings etc. Lubricant will make sure Oring sits into its right position when closed.

    • @JS-cv7jj
      @JS-cv7jj 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@atlantisfreediving I did actually asked Mares about the issue. This is their reply: "The O-ring should not be lubricated. You may have found residuals of lubricant when opening the battery cover - this is not from the O-ring, but from lubricant used by Mares around the battery cover when mounting it to the computer." But the lubricant was clearly impregnating the O ring and in the compartment of were the O ring was, which seals the whole of the diving computer, not just the battery compartment, so their reply does not explain why the O ring was impregnated in lubricant and there was some white stuff where the O ring is located (unless they call both the battery compartment and they put a layer of lubricant where the O ring sits). That was the first battery replacement. So clearly Mares put lubricant either around the O ring or in the compartment as you say. Thanks

  • @Hmbucker

    Bizar, I think I did all that, but still my computer (2 of them) started leaking water. The only thing I did maybe wrong was putting too much grease on the o-ring, could that be the problem?

    The manual specifically states:
    "NOTE
    Do not lubricate the o-ring! Lubrication
    causes the o-ring to twist when the cover is
    put over it, causing the watch to flood."
    Link here: media.head.com/_11__/documents/DL/216965-9tb4j9th7ls0g84g

    • @atlantisfreediving
      @atlantisfreediving  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is very weird, and you are right, the manual says this, however we noticed that battery kit contains already pre-lubricated O-ring, generally O-rings are lubricated to prevent the exact issue, make sure not to OVER lubricate the O-ring would be the right message. That said, we have been changing batteries in this and other computers following the same steps and never experienced any floods. It is needed to say that back cover does not twist in to the watch, it sits straight on it, no twisting needed to apply, just push straight down, once aligned with alarm connectors and screw holes. Good luck!
