It's not a "gimmick", it's not a cheap guitar that folds, it's just the opposite...it's a high quality, great looking, incredible sounding and playing guitar that has the capability of folding so you can take it on a plane, travel with minimal carrying and luggage issues, etc.

Foldable Design: The Ciari Ascender Standard Plus is unique because it folds at the 12th fret, making it extremely convenient for travel. This design allows it to be easily transported on planes, either under the seat or in overhead compartments.
Playability and Sound: Despite initial skepticism about its foldable nature being a gimmick, the guitar proves to be a serious instrument. It features a plek'd neck for smooth playability, Seymour Duncan '59 pickups with coil splits, and maintains excellent tune stability. The guitar comes with 10 gauge strings, but 9 gauge strings can also be used.
Folding Mechanism: The guitar uses a pulley system to fold, drastically reducing the neck's tension from 118 lbs to just 3 lbs of pressure. This system is easy to operate, making the guitar simple to fold and unfold without affecting its tuning significantly, especially with the original 10 gauge strings.

How robust is the folding mechanism? The slightest give in any of the components will result in an upward curved neck. Also, is there a system comparable to a truss rod to tune the string height?
Truss rod from head to the fold point. Everyone says it is solid as heck, and the ones I tried at NAMM felt rock solid.
