Hey Brendan. The perspective on both shots, wide angle and pano, to my eyes look exactly the same. As far as I know the only thing am that affects perspective (compression and such) is just the distance to the subject, not the Lens. So if you stayed in the same place, both photos would look the same. Different story is if you stepped back a lot and used a telephoto instead. That would really change the images. Just my two cents. Great to see you back in my country 😊
Tony Northrup had a good video on using a telephoto "pano" - essentially stitch together enough telephoto images to give the FoV a much shorter lens - while retaining DoF of the telephoto... AIR 16 or so 200mm f/2.8 shots joined ended looking like a 50mm f/0.2 or somesuch. At really high resolution. I don't recall the exact numbers.
It is so fun following this work shop because I can watch from three different perspectives but more importantly three vary different perspectives. Looks like fun and a beautiful spot to visit.
Great vlog Brendan. Wow , that glacier is just incredible! I think I could stare at it all day :) Those wonderful sights & sounds are amazing. You shot some really awesome images, love the long lens shots of the mountain peaks too, so cool :)
We just visited Perrito Moreno two weeks ago and experienced the real Patagonia weather, rain, wind and some sun. Your photography tips are great as it is really hard to capture this natural wonder. Very cool video.
Heaton's impersonation of you was perfect...You should have finished this vlog with "Bye for now." It's great to see you two together which makes for great friendships...Greg
Awe grasshopper, you have mastered the art of leading lines and are now graduating to the "Z" lines hahaha maybe you can show Tom how to take more than one picture of a scene, great video, I wouldn't fire Greg, because that B-Roll rocks! That last shot ...... sweet!
That was a pretty awesome impression, lol! The glacier looks really cool! I like the fact that every photographer has his or her own perspective and style. After all, it would be dull if everyone took the same picture the same way. I'm glad to see the workshop has been awesome so far!
You, Greg & Thomas heaton would make a good tv series... You would be like the Top Gear presenters but only for photography lol.. you should approach the bbc lol.. I would watch it..
You and Thomas Heaton have very different styles, but I don't agree that his are much better. That's one of the great things about photography - you can put 5 photographers in a location and you'll get 5 different photos.
I do think his shots are always a bit more refined, more honed in. But, yeah, I agree. Love that you can put a bunch of photographers in one spot and all come away with totally different work.
Love this video Brendan! And I'm staying it again. You and Thomas are the perfect combination! Your different styles and way to approach a scene just shows that there is not one way to create art - its a personal process. Can not say than one is better than the other - just different. Ive been follwing both you guys since way back - and thats because you show two different approaches to maskin great photos!
The pano (at 2:25) is simply wider than your 16mm wide angle; e.g. it has more sky and more foreground trees. I think to realise your intention (e.g. to depict the 'epic scale' of the glacier) you need a longer focal length like the pano at (7:51) shot at 195mm and in general to put the mountain peaks closer to the top-edge of the frame. By the way I know it is a busy period for you but unsure if you got my email via your website form; pls drop me a line if your did. Carry on the good work. PS It is also interesting to see the videos coming out from all three of you (Thomas and Greg) as you often use the same video segments but put a different spin on things, splicing and the like.
Maybe I didn't make my point clearly (I do know that 190 is very different from 35 :-). The point I was trying to make (and hzeta hzeta below suggests smt similar) is that there is no perceptible difference (in the way you intended or at least stated in your clip) between the pano and the wide shots.
great brendan! Im following the whole trip through your channel + thomas and Greg's! good stuff! Hey, question here, how far is that spot you stopped at the road for the sunset shots at fitz roy from El chalten? Like 1 hour away or even more?
Great one, Absolutely stunning...., Brendan.you and Thomas is very happy day also mind to see. This video sharing from Japan my lovely friends sharing to post. Thank! 👌👏
There is a Greg that posted on FredMiranda some photos last week from this location. They are the most epic and amazing photos I ever saw. I'm wondering if it is the same Greg with you.
I think Thomas should stick to his British accent, to be honest. :-P Gorgeous scenery, BTW. My favorite shot of the entire day is definitely @6:47... So gorgeous!
Love both of the photo's, can I ask how quick did you take the pano shot, I presume literally a second between shots, just wondering cos lighting can change so quickly I guess to create problems with stitching?
Wow. First of all dude thanks for the reply I’m a subscriber, big fan and a aspiring landscape photographer I’m still learning. I bought a variable ND for my 16-35f4 but have only used it a couple times. What square filters do you use? I need to learn more about them. I have a few but they are real cheap I think promaster stuff
Check out Brendan's gear here: www.brendansadventures.com/my-travel-photography-gear/ As for choosing filters, the consensus is "don't go cheap on filters". I know, truth hurts ;-)
Come on, guys! The wide and the pano have exactly the same perspective. Look at the main yellow tree and the glacier, the relative size is the same on both pictures.
Brendan van Son i’m not sure you’re seeing the same thing as me. top middle of the shot. starts near the person’s head. looks dark and growing. I thought it could perhaps be an interesting light flare on the lens but wasn’t sure.

It‘s fun to watch you and Thomas Heaton at the same location and your different approach to storytelling, photography etc.
Keep them coming, loving every minute of the vlogs from all three of you. So interesting and good to see the distinct styles you all have.

Great vlog Brendan. Wow , that glacier is just incredible! I think I could stare at it all day :) Those wonderful sights & sounds are amazing. You shot some really awesome images, love the long lens shots of the mountain peaks too, so cool :)
You guys work so well together. Really enjoying the Patagonia series - my favorite of your adventures so far.
Glad you're enjoying the Patagonia series, Debbie! Thanks for watching.
It's so cool to see different styles come together in one place

Yeah, don't tell Greg, but he's pretty awesome.
You and Thomas are the best! I loved this episode. Greetings from Brazil.
Obrigadoooo!
You are welcome. I hope to see you in Iguazu Falls some day, most beautiful place in Brazil.
Great vlog, lovely images and the three of you make a great team.
Always shoot my panos as you mention, so much detail that way. Great video Brendan
Great photos and I’m digging the collaboration between you and Thomas. Good stuff.
Thanks Melissa!
Another great vlog and set of images, enough to make me wish I was there...

Nice location. What wonderful photo opportunities. Love it!
You, Greg & Thomas heaton would make a good tv series... You would be like the Top Gear presenters but only for photography lol.. you should approach the bbc lol.. I would watch it..
The only all-day advertising channel I would watch
Another cracking vid. Always a top watch.
Thanks, Dan!
Nice impression Thomas you nailed it. Great pano Brendan.

That's exactly what I thought. Ditto vlogging styles, interesting that this same location produces/will produce very different episodes for folks.

Yes, obviously 35mm vs. 195mm is a massive difference. Which is why I said a "telephoto effect".
Glad you're liking the work! :D

Great vid 👍🏻 everyone’s different but all those pics are on point love it 😁
entertainment value of this vid is off the charts
Haha. Thanks!
wahaha!! Nailed it Thomas ;-p wow! these locations become more breathtaking by the day!
great brendan! Im following the whole trip through your channel + thomas and Greg's! good stuff! Hey, question here, how far is that spot you stopped at the road for the sunset shots at fitz roy from El chalten? Like 1 hour away or even more?
No, it's only about 15 minutes away.
Oh cool! I will plan some early shots from there. Will be in EL Chalten in a couple weeks!!
Great one, Absolutely stunning...., Brendan.you and Thomas is very happy day also mind to see. This video sharing from Japan my lovely friends sharing to post. Thank! 👌👏

So great to see those places I explored in the beginning of the year... Best place on earth right ?!
Another excellent vlog sir
Thanks!
You need to do a whole episode talking like Thomas now lolol!!
I tried. I just started to sound more and more Indian. Hahaha
Brendan also you need to say is, “ Ab.so.lute.ly. Stunning!” Lol

Yeah, as quickly as I can twist the ball head and press the trigger on the next one.
Excellent video.
What ND filters do you use ? Cheers from a vacation in Japan.
Lee!
Brendan van Son thanks buddy that’s what I had considered. They are expensive but great I heard.
Brendan do you use a screw on variable ND and then the square panel NDs on top of that ???
Nope, just Square NDs, variable NDs are more for filmmakers than photographers.
Wow. First of all dude thanks for the reply I’m a subscriber, big fan and a aspiring landscape photographer I’m still learning. Very funny video!
You and Thomas make a great pair of"twins" :-)
Wait how did you change clothes so fast at 5:43 ? Hahahaha
Come on, guys!
The wide and the pano have exactly the same perspective.
Look at the main yellow tree and the glacier, the relative size is the same on both pictures.
As stated before, this was 16mm vs. 35mm not a massive difference, just more detail.
Who is the girl with the white hat... :)
Like and love it.
Good job.. been watching all your vlog.. im a die hard fan of yours.. i just remember you my boyfriend.. cute and handsome.. god bless
Thanks for watching! :D
ridiculous, you should patent that word for you ahah
Greg is ok leave him alone :D at least he is not singing like Tyler :D
Hahaha. So true.
UFO @9:56?!???!!!
hahaha, lenticular clouds. they are awesome!
Brendan van Son i’m not sure you’re seeing the same thing as me. top middle of the shot. starts near the person’s head. looks dark and growing. I thought it could perhaps be an interesting light flare on the lens but wasn’t sure.
Yeh not bad but tell Mr H to stick to photography 🤪
Jim
Please don't take a lot of good images, but try to get the best one.
Well i suppose youve been trying to be Thomas Heaton for a while and have failed.... so THeat showed you how to do it ;)
He's going by T-Fuego now. Hahahaha
