Jim I’ve watched this video multiple times. I bought the plant and kept it in a pot for about 15 months. Loved it. Recently put it in the ground and still love it! I’m watching yet again because we all need something refreshing to see. Thank you!
Love this plant, NOW. Being a South Texas native, I've seen many plants that are yellow because they're sick so I've typically been turned off by yellow foliage plants. I've had a change of heart and incorporate it and all other colored foliage now into my yarden space. ♥
I adore my sunshine ligustrum plants! They are thriving as my part of my foundation plantings in all day full sun along with the purple daydream lorapetalum and tater tots I planted. No trimming needed now after I ripped out all my boxwoods. Good riddance! Zero maintenance except for mulch. Sunshine ligustrums are my favorite!!! Mine grew about a foot and a half since this spring and are beautiful! They look great against the purple daydreams and the brick of my home. I'll be honest, I wish I had planted more of them. Love your channel!
I really like this new channel! You can give us a lot more information about each plant. Pros, Cons, experiences... All the pictures are very helpful as well. This is really nice!
Zone 8b, I planted these in full sun in a 100 foot strip between my neighbors and I 3 years ago. Combined sunshine ligustrum, hetzii columnar juniper and purple daydream loropetalum in a zigzag planted formation. First year I had issues with the tops of the ligustrum leaves having brown spots. Second year those leaves never came back and was left with dead twigs. Trimmed those out and they look much better. Not getting any upward growth on them but they are quite dense and bushy. The yellow during the summer pops against the green and purple.
This new channel is just what I am looking for. Could you possibly add to your stats list average growth per year? I know you frequently say it in your videos but it would help to have that in the stats sheet. Thanks!
You give just the right amount of info + you show pictures on what it'll look like when mature. I have a terrible time judging what the mature size of my plants will be, so your pictures are extremely helpful! Thank you!
Hi there, would be great to see a focus on fast growing shrubs to complement sunshine ligustrum of similar size in a border that is in sun to part shade. 🙂
I am one of the ones that have loved it in the background of your Q&As. I am on the lookout now for one and then have to figure out where I want it in my yard! Love these videos!
I have bought 4 after you revised Sunshine Ligustrum. Thanks for all the details at end of presentation. Very helpful. Am reconfiguring a corner of my zone 8 backyard, would love a consultant with you for hardscape and plants. Thanks
Watched an area in my front yard that faces east and found it gets 6 hrs of sun so I just added 5 of these shrubs!!! So excited I was able to find a spot for them in my landscape! I have been admiring them for the past 2-3 yrs. Great video!
Interesting to hear that the gold color can shift around during different times of the year as the exposure changes. This could allow you to create some neat effects if under planting some trees that do not hold leaves. You they would brighten up and present a very different border due to the enhanced exposure that time of year.
Loving this new channel. I like that it is specific to one plant at a time with all the detail. Makes it easy to search and save. Of course your other channel is one of my go to as well. I’ve learned so much! Was wondering how this plant might work as a small tree form?
Glad to hear this is hardy in zone 6- my zone! You might want to adjust the you-tube subheading on this video, as it currently says “27,128 views, 2Y ago, Zone 8 Foundation plant”. A bit confusing.
I battled with an older variety of Chinese privette, but this one is gorgeous! I love the idea of planting it by itself and training it into a pyramid.
I’ve added four of these to my landscape in the last year, with one in more shade than the other three. They’re all doing well. Looking forward to new growth.
Your love of these sunshine ligustrum has helped me to convince my lovely wife to add this goldy to our landscape this season… now to figure out where it goes! We’ll likely be trying to find a consultation window with you soon!
My ground planted sunshines look great even now in Winter here in central NC. My potted versions who don’t get special care have bronzed and thinned out much more due to dry conditions I wager. Even in the amber/bronze color it’s pretty and with some rain I think they’ll bounce back fine.
I absolutely LOVE the color of this plant! I have a huge backyard, but the problem is it's all in full sun, and I have a huge slope. I've started putting in plants, but I like the look where you can't see much mulch in between all the plants. My current plants aren't getting very big yet.
I have a young landscape with a lot of full sun areas (8a). I have young trees, so not much shade/filtered shade yet, so I am always looking for sun/heat tolerant and showy plants. Thanks.
I just planted one this fall - and it's wee sized -- teeny! So I look forward to it growing up, and wondering now if it might out perform my newly planted Forest Pansy Redbud 😳
Hello, thank you for all the information you provide everyone. I've learned a lot from your channel. I'm hoping you could tell me if I need to do anything with my sunshine ligustrum bushes this winter? We planted them this past July or August. I'm in zone 7. Thanks so very much.
I have six of these that have been planted about three years. (Raleigh, NC) Last spring, we got brilliant yellow growth, that fell off after a month or so, making us scratch our heads as to why they dropped leaves in the spring, making the shrubs quite bare. We thought perhaps they were dying for some unknown reason. However, within another month or so, the shrubs had flushed back out with new leaves. I am just waiting to see if the process repeats itself this spring.
All three of my newly planted last May ligustrums have dropped their leaves in the past couple of weeks. Should I prune any stems or branches? or just wait and see?
@@laura324n I didn't prune them at all last year and got a new flush of leaves later toward early summer. I've never experienced this with a plant where it leafs out once, then again later in the year. Whatever the case, the sunshine ligustrum shrubs are doing the same thing again this year. It's May and they're not pretty at all. But they do eventually leaf out again. We are thinking of removing them.
Mine really struggled last year - I believe because we were so wet last winter and it was fall planted. It's really starting to fill out now, though, and I hope to see some really good growth come spring!
Mine is drying from the tip of the leaves and then the entire leaf and falls off, why is that? I am trying to trouble shoot it. Hope you can help, thank you
I have bought these two times....and each time they stay green....no mater where I put them....my neighbor has them and they are yellow very bright lemon yellow.........I get so aggravated with them.........I tried to take them back, but lost my receipt..........is there any liquid I can put in the ground to change their chemical structure so they will be yellow..........I want the lemon yellow so very bad, I have green things everywhere, but NO lemon yellow..............what can I do........please reply if possible and if you cannot reply , then please answer me some reader that has solved this problem........thanks ahead of time.....
Sunshine ligustrum!! Beautiful plant…I think that gold in your garden is an absolute necessity!!!

Good luck with the new channel. I can’t wait to start learning about plants I can put in my yard. Please focus on 7b as it’s so helpful.
Agree. Stick to 7b!
Love your content keep it up. I'm landscaping my yard using many of your suggestions:-)
I think your idea with our new channel is awesome.
This plant looks good with the purple contrast. Thanks for the info!

Look into lorepetalum. He's talked about that combo quite a lot. They look beautiful together.
Along with loropetalum, contrast with a large leafed holly or other rich green color. So many opportunities ❤
I am one of the ones that have loved it in the background of your Q&As. I am on the lookout now for one and then have to figure out where I want it in my yard! Love these videos!
I love these but wow i lost pretty much all the leaves slowly over the winter and now in May, and still have many bare ones.
Same! and really hoping they come back
I love these. Have quite a few because of your videos. Thanks Jim.
I am going to attempt one these as a potted plant for a showy spot of color this year on my patio.
I have a few. I love them all year
Love these chartuese foliage plants!
Your pruning instructions are invaluable to me with my 3yr old total landscape of trees and shrubs. Thx
Ok. Now I've got to get one. Great info all around.
Glad to see it is a Z 6. I need privacy shrubs for our acreage. Our lot is narrow but deep. I’d love to see more in Viburnums.❤️
Me too! Love viburnums!
Love this channel! It'll be easy to search for information.
Great video and informative as usual. I appreciate all you and Steph do.

Beautiful shaped shrub and that golden colour is just stunning especially this time of year, Thank You Jim
Thanks for explaining about the height versus what the tags say. That will definitely alter where I put it!
💘Love plant-specific videos and love your new channel!
Beautiful plant! I'm excited to see all the things that will be on this new channel!
Love this plant and video! PCSing to Fort Bragg, NC in summer. Would love any help you can give a North-easterner on your native North Carolina!
I like videos that detail individual plants. it's very helpful.
Another very informative video. I'm enjoying your new channel.
Have these and love them! Such a great color and so low maintence
I have 3 of these in my DFW Texas garden. They have been very slow-growing for their first year, so I'm hoping they'll jump into action this spring.
How do I grow this in zone 5?????? I absolutely love it!!!!
I planted one this year, and hope to shape it into fairly tight pyramids shape. Will hope to have other geometric shapes as well.
I have 3 of these - each one in a different sun exposure and all doing equally well. Great care-free plant.
I’m loving this channel 👌🏽 we gardeners need this information on beautiful plants! Great channel 👍🏽

We have seen them done. Most recently in containers in Louisiana. They were lovely

I put Little Ruby Alternanthera infront of it, and then a hibiscus behind it.

I love mine! Learned about them from you. Unfortunately, I over fertilized one of mine and it looks pretty bad. I hope it recovers.
Great info!

We fertilize in late winter but that’s all. Sometimes the do drop leaves in the winter. This year ours did, but came back better and fuller!
Interesting point regarding using one as a stand alone plant against other types. Do they tolerate wet feet?

How was struggling? Mine I just plant like a month ago and two of them already turning yellow leaves but they are falling everywhere
@@dannykevin1508 Mine lost a lot of leaves that first year and looked pretty sad but it looks great now with another year of growth.
Can't wait for you to add more plants, maybe acanthus?
Yes! Please do one on acanthus!
Can I plant this in Winter?
how far apart do I need to plant each bush (5 bushes) for them to grow together in a line like that?
Beauty!
How deep do the roots grow?
I've bought these and put in my front bed in Katy Tx..I have not seen any Yellow yet..what is up with my plants??????
You should move all of your old single plant videos to this channel. I often search your old videos when buying a new shrub!
I like the vibrant color! How fast can I get it to grow? I would use it as a hedge its beautiful.
They are pretty fast growers
Can you tell us how, when to trim these back?
As needed late summer to early/mid summer.
A sterile privet, maybe I can add one after all! I do have a full sun location that could use an evergreen focal point. 🤔
In zone 6b my late summer planting of sunshine ligustrum leaves looks to be dead. Will it bounce back or is it already dead?
I actually prefer this planted in part shade, where it is more lime green than gold!!!
I’m in zone 5b. Is there something similar to this that would work for my zone or if I tried it could it work if it was somewhere more protected?
You could certainly try. It would likely lose its leaves, but likely flush back out, as expected. Make be more die back, as well
How many takes did it take you not to say "Welcome to HortTube"? Lol
Nice channel!
I have four of these plants in my landscape but they're not as full as yours.
Mine is drying from the tip of the leaves and then the entire leaf and falls off, why is that? I am trying to trouble shoot it. Hope you can help, thank you
Enjoy these individual plant videos.
Added this because you gave me information that was helpful to make it an addition to my yard.
I planted 2 last year and one is just about dead. Not sure what is going on. Almost all leaves have fallen off!
My sunshines are looking very orange/red right now in zone 7b. Is this normal?
I just plant mine 2 months ago and is dying :( leaves getting yellow and falling everywhere
Thank you so much for skipping all the fluff and get right to the plant stuff!

Tv 👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤❤❤❤🌹🌹🌹
I hate these. This is the only plant that I disagree with you about. I cut down several when I bought my house
They get big
Love the channel but sorry to say, not a fan of this plant.
