Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric is a game created and developed for Wii U published by Sega and developed by Big Red Botton Entretaiment which was released on November 11, 2014 in North America and Europe on November 21 and Japan, on December 18, 2014. It is one of two video game previews for the Sonic Boom television series, the other being Sonic Boom: Crystal Shattered, and thus the third and final video game in the Nintendo -Sega partnership, both of which are Past Sonic Lost World and Mario & Sonic at the 2014 Winter Olympics
Plot
Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric follows Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles "Tails" Prower, Amy Rose, and Knuckles as they battle the evil Dr. Eggman. In what seemed like a normal day to thwart Dr. Eggman's plans, the group find themselves on an island where they find an ancient tomb sealed deep within the island. For over 1000 years. Sonic makes a small mistake and accidentally unleashes a powerful villain who looks like a snake-to-robot mix, a member of a race called the Ancients named Lyric, who plans to get enough power to feed his war robot army with the crystals of chaos to destroy everything organic and create a world of twisted metal and robots. To stop Lyric's evil plan, the group must set aside their differences and find Chaos crystals before Lyric. The stakes have never been higher, and the only chance to beat Lyric is to come together and work as a team.
Gameplay
Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric is an action-adventure game with a strong emphasis on exploration and combat compared to the previous Sonic the Hedgehog of installments. The game features four playable characters, from Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy. The game will have local cooperative multiplayer support and is typically housed around two players in co-op mode, with additional modes for up to four local players. However, if a player is playing alone, they are allowed to switch to any character at any time (similar to various Lego video games) while the computer will take control of the other characters. The game does not support online multiplayer, but instead features local multiplayer.
Each character has their own abilities and gameplay to explore the areas and the environment. Sonic can use his speed, reach secret areas with Spin Dash and use Homing Attack, Knuckles can burrow underground for a while and climb over marked wall sections, Tails can fly and use multiple devices and Amy You can use your piko hammer to swing poles. Gameplay also features new mechanics, such as "Enerbeam", a tethering device used by all four characters.
