This isnt music, but it deserves a spot in my music playlist.
Little bit of motivation everyday is priceless.
Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts
Winston Churchill. thats been my all time favorite quote.
❤
This reminds me of the "99% of gamblers quit before their big win" lol

From everything that I’ve heard, that’s basically game development.
That's a false equivalency. Time spent on Indie game dev develops marketable and powerful skills. I cut my teeth making games - I knew more and interviewed stronger than my peers for it. You could fail completely and totally to create a financially successful indie title and you still come out the other side with skills that will aid you in every facet of your professional and sometimes personal life. Passionate creation is a beautiful thing and it shows when you communicate to people.
The difference between a master and a beginner, is that a master has failed more times than a beginner has tried. These words motivate me when I develop my indie game.
I needed this video in my life right now, I was minutes from deleting my game engine
You got this, improvise, adapt, overcome.
Finally got this morning off work and had a hard time even leaving bed. I kept asking myself what's the point? My demo for my indie game just bombed, No matter how hard I push and promote no one sees it, and the most success I've had with the project was six years ago on a post with 40 likes and majority of the people in the comments telling me to give up. Honestly sometimes it feels like the easier thing to do but my mind just won't let me. Really needed to hear this today, I appreciate you guys' uploads.
I feel you. Where can I see this demo? I'm very interested.
Thanks for the fresh dose of motivation, I feel a lot more determination now.
Being an indie dev is one challenge, but being an indie dev in a country that doesn't care about it is even tougher. At times I'd ask myself, if I don't follow my childhood dream to make an awesome game, then what's the point?
For better or for worse, it kinda developed this sort of Badeline in me. Anytime I give up on a project of mine, I get haunted by said project in lots of nightmares until I get back to it and finish the job.
That's a messed up way of not giving up, but at least it works, right?
Anyways, to my fellow indie devs here, let's keep up the good work, and I hope to see us at the top someday. :-)
It might sound messed up to some, and despite the cruelty of the affliction those projects can grant I would deem it a very inspiring reminder that you have unfinished work to do. And any of us that get that are gonna go someplace because of how much that stuff can gnaw away at us if we don’t.
So many people having fear for wasting their life, so they rather waste their time in front of the TV instead of taking risk in their life to achieving something great.
Taking a risk could end in complete failure, leaving you completely broke in the process, and the other is comfortable, with no risk in sight.
Achieving something great is possible, but not guaranteed.
Despite how beautiful this motivational is, I'm not interested in making indies, just to be famous or popular.
I'm interested in making indies because I'm passionate about what I want to share with others, as others have done within this industry.
I don't need a million people to play every single game I make to be considered a success.
Then you've already won the "metagame" my friend. Congratulations, keep doing what you love!
That hit me where I lived.
Great motivational video! Success isn't about being the best, it's about relentlessly moving forward.
This is phenomenal!
Sometimes it gets pretty hard and challenging in game dev. Videos like this help remind me of the end goal.
Thanks, dude.
(Semi)successful game dev here. While this is good, something most fail to understand is how important marketing is. A diamond deep in a cave won't pay rent. A shiny turd in everyone's mouth, will. Try to aim for a kinda-pretty but well-known game
Thank you ! I needed this,however i also don't rely on spurts of motivation like this but these are helpful from time to time.
I don't want to be a TH-camr, but it feels like i have to get mainstream support for my projects before i finish them
18 years old Got no money no home family disown me I think I will just rob a bank and make my own indie game that is totally not inspired by other games I think I will call it Robbery Bob 3: Scorched-Earth
when does it drop
YIKES
This sounds delusional
Thanks for this man , i needed this cuz i deleted a small game that i wanted to make out of rage , now i feel guilty
That sucks, sorry to hear that
To fail... is to succeed
- Future Creator of Harmonic... If It get's anywhere
JUST DO IT!
There is no failure. You either succeed or you learn something.
Pretty good motivation for all kinds of gamedevs! Learn more, have fun, and share your ideas with the whole world! This is what indie game dev is about. Thanks for this great video again:)
I came here looking for a place to whine about my current barrier that I'm facing and about all the whole trail of tears that's led up to this current fail block. Because misery loves company? But this space is like holy ground.
I just can't piss on holy ground.
Amazing video bro, keep it up!
Thanks so much for your support!!
Got three months until release of my 5th title. But the difference is this title i quit my job and only have 6 months savings or ill sell the car. Scary. But the vision is insane and the game is called pixel arcade, out on steam. The tribulations of my previous titles taught me what i need to know. Hope it works out
It really hurts when u have passion and interest but u r poor and dont have any resources to be a game developer 💔😊
I started developing without a computer. I wrote and drew my game ideas, studied, went to the library.. and when I finally got a PC years later, I put those notes into action.
Im the dev of REMOTE LIFE and CRUDE...and u can tell... success is if u r able ro finish a game...the rest after is just a + 😅😂
Now I know why people like those generic motivational videos, felt like I needed that! I will now ignore that feeling entirely and go back to being cynical, if you don't mind.
At the moment of my defeat I hear everyone in the comments praying for me while listening to this, then I rise once again, my HP and MP completely replenished, thanks guys
will this video change that number, if so, does that mean this video is trying to make itself wrong???
Well by that definition I guess that makes me a failure, but I'm supposed to keep trying I think?
Love this, thank you mate
😤
I watch this everything it comes up on my you tube feed. Thank you
Game dev is Hard!
I helped with a lot of ideas and concept art for the recent Isaac expansion when it was a fan mod. It was one of the slimiest cut throat environments I was ever in and hope nobody has to experience that. Your videos give me hope that things are okay.
But how do i even find my companions. I am still looking for a team i can hire…
These are the words that I need.
Thank You so much
And all of the examples are 2D....
THX SO MUCH FOR THIS MOTIVATING VIDEO
i aint tryin to make some crazy just makin a cod 4 custom mod that takes a fuck ton of time lol
Thanks for the reminder! 🍻
Very motivational video!
I though I would quit or truly started to hate game dev but then I realized how hard I am resisting to quit even tho I am in depression. I realized that no other career interests me like game dev does I am born for this I actually quit 3-4 times and at the end I realized those weren't real quit those were burnouts. Burnout is kinda weird u think it will feel like u are tired but mostly its like hate and questioning your career choice and ofc depression not wanting to live another day, I remember designing table games at middleschool, crafting my own tcg, paper toys and selling them to my friends in primary school. if u can't imagine yourself doing another job other than game dev then there no reason to have doubts about it. You are experiencing burnout, take a few day rest without thinking anything related to game dev and u will be good. Cravings will start and eventually u will find out yourself on game engine doing something in no time.
NOTE: if you're doing it for solo purpose of making big money then u will fail since there easier jobs that make same amount of salary and they will eventually get you to their side.
Thank you. Remember my name.
i actually watch this evry day
"You only have to worry about the next step" 👌
I’m actually gonna be an indie dev soon
I’ve been in burnout for about a month now from over working trying everyday for sometimes over 6/2 hours to learn how to make games in unity I’m still struggling to get out of it but this I think as definitely helped and I feel a little bit more motivated to try again tomorrow even if it knocks me down (thank you)
I'd love to believe that. Thanks!
Embrace failure and keep going. Hats off to all the Indie developers out there. Great motivational video, love the background music. Take care.
Do you guys think I can do this?
I
v
I honestly i hate 2d indie games 😅
This is most helpful vid on yt
In a way I wish TH-cam was just videos like this.... Buuuut then working towards the top 5% would be even harder... At times it's already hard going and trying to make a game of my own instead of playing a game already made by the current 5%.
Great video, expected me to rewatch as a reminder.
I want to get motivated later
I needed this thank you
Hey guys I need advice... I already asked ChatGPT but as much as he is an amazing therapist and listens like no human, in this particular case he wasn't that helpful. I think he tries to be gentle and politically nice and correct, and not straight to the point and rough.
I started to make my proof of concept game in GDevelop. It was fun, and the project has a real potential, and the GDev is really amazing software, but I don't see my future in GDev, and once I am done doing the game I am reluctant to maintain the project in GDev (I don't see growth for myself in this software. ) By now I learned Godot and Python libraries that allow me to make this game on a better engine, with more advanced code that performs better and gives more control. But rewriting the game will take me some time, and I can't decide. should I finish the project in GDev and then drop it move on and build the next version of the game in the new engine, or not lose any time to finish a dead cat and straight move on to rewriting the game as fast as possible? it seems in all cases I "lose" some time, but I end up richer by one proof of concept game on my account...In both cases those are at least months of work if not more... What should I do? finish the project in the old engine? maybe finish it roughly to have a portfolio? or move on to rewriting the game in Godot?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Finish it roughly, for your Portfolio. So you have it out of your mind and can start fresh.
I guess that depends on how attached to this game you are. If you really love it and would want to publish/maintain it I'd say take the time to rewrite. If you're wanting go move onto other projects then probably just finish it and use fir portfolio.
Good luck, you got this!
Thanks, I think I am going to finish it roughly as a proof of concept, and then make a full remake in a new engine. I think this is the way. thanks guys. Good to see kind spirits here. Salutations from Poland to you.
This video is absolutely the cure to all the negativity on TH-cam.
My issue is that this same monologue runs through my head everyday, but it tells me I'm in the 95% lol 😂....😅....😢
I always tell myself that my failures are my wins, and my wins are extra surprise bonus🎉
Thank you for this video. It means a lot to remember that each failure is another step. The only time you actually fail is if you give up.
It takes a lot of self awareness to say the things you said in the way you said it. Loved the video, makes me very happy to be a subscriber :)
The secret of the 5% who make it big is two-fold. On one hand, it's newer indies who make a ton of games and get good enough at design, marketing, and networking to ship something great. On the other hand, it's industry devs who go indie that understand the development process and the workflow to ship a real game in a timely manner.
So. Inspirational!!
Thank You for making this fantastic video.
This is a very good Insight... reminding us that the one that holds us back is: ourselves
If we release our fears... and learn to "play with our fears" Instead, then we would achieve more things 💯💪🏼🔥😄
I thought the video was going to show a bank account statement of ConcernedApe but this is probably the 2nd most motivational thing
I am going to listen to this everytime .... This motivativated me a lot
Thank you.
I literally clicked on this video as a joke but now I actually feel encouraged, thanks!
I would say this extends to other things in our lives. Thank you so much for this video 🙏 It is so true, and really keeps me going.
I need this.
RESPECT
Yes
I've created a bunch of different playlists for myself on game dev for various topics (marketing, game design, optimization, etc.). Basically just videos that I wanted to consult at a later date or things I want to remember. This video made me start a new playlist called 'motivation'. This is some great stuff to hear. Thanks for making this video, Brandon and Nikki!
This makes me feel a bit better. Thank you.
I didn’t watch it every day but I’m back. Really needed this.
man this gives me motivation back ervery time i watch it
❤
✳✳✴✳✳
This video is the top on my motivational playlist in my game development journey
Get a buddy to hold you accountable every day and grind for however many hours you've set for yourself at what part of the day.
don't let your idea be a spark keep adding fuel to turn it into a flame.
Great video tumbnail and title made me want to watch it instantly and video delivered prety well too
I needed this, thank you!
Guys? I think I " GOT THIS"
I can do this
Love it, thanks for the vid and the inspiration!!!
thank you! recognition really goes a long way
Kinda had a lowpoint in the mental rollercoaster of making a game, and just typed "indie dev encouragement" for some motivation. Very good words in this video, I feel more capable now.
Glad it was helpful. Feel free to join the discord as well! It's full of super encouraging people. The low points don't stop, I mostly made this video for myself lol
As soon as you said "You know how to fail" i knew you was a real one.
Thanks for the advice this really helps
I needed this so much. thank you
Dafuq is this?
thanks, this helps me as a 12yo game developer (well not yet developer)
I don't want to become rich with game development but i just want to make a loving doing what i love.
Bro i need help;) for you is like 2 sec for sure. I have script for Enemy randomly paroling (this case horizontal) how can i make HIM FLIP (rotate 180) right now he moves forward and backward with initial direction...:( Script is based on your last video about behaviors and scriptible enemies
public override void DoFrameUpdateLogic()
{
base.DoFrameUpdateLogic();
//transform.position = Vector2.MoveTowards(transform.position, moveSpots[randomSpot].position, moveSpeed * Time.deltaTime); //Schemat patrolu
transform.position = Vector2.MoveTowards(transform.position, moveSpot.position, RandomMovementSpeed * Time.deltaTime);
//if (Vector2.Distance(transform.position, moveSpots[randomSpot].position) < 0.2f) //Schemat patrolu
if (Vector2.Distance(transform.position, moveSpot.position) < 0.2f)
{
if (waitTime < 0)
{
moveSpot.position = new Vector2(Random.Range(minX, maxX), Random.Range(minY, maxY));
//randomSpot = Random.Range(0, moveSpots.Length); //Schemat patrolu
waitTime = startWaitTime;
}
else
{
waitTime -= Time.deltaTime;
}
}
}
Each time he changes direction, you can call transform.Rotate(0f, 180f, 0f)
Or you can multiply the scale of the x by -1.
Either works.
@@sasquatchbgames kinda working transform.Rotate(0f,180f,0f) when i put is here:
if (waitTime < 0)
{
moveSpot.position = new Vector2(Random.Range(minX, maxX), Random.Range(minY, maxY));
transform.Rotate(0f,180f,0f)
//randomSpot = Random.Range(0, moveSpots.Length); //Schemat patrolu
waitTime = startWaitTime;
}
but when enemy is has 10f between A and B and moving 5f to the right and then another 3f he changes "facedirection" so its working when moving right left right left and so on but when is right left left (starting to mix sides :(
@@fireraccoon_ looks like you'll need to add a check for their facing direction. Add a bool somewhere on your enemy script IsFacingRight{get;set;} Set it in start depending on their default facing direction, and you'll want to do a check that goes something like this: (pseudocode)
If (IsFacingRight AND they are moving left)
{
transform.Rotate(0f, 180f, 0f)
IsFacingRight =! IsFacingRight
}
else if (!isFacingRight AND they are moving right)
{
transform.Rotate(0f, 180f, 0f)
IsFacingRight =! IsFacingRight
}
it could be written neater than that, but hopefully that gets the point across.

Thank you
