That was my wife with her dog that you showed. She is suppose to be in the witness Protection Program. She is hiding from the Italians located in the lower Jersey shore area. They have been searching for her for over a year and a half. The DA from Jersey changed her identity and changed the look of the dog too. That dog use to be Collie. Amazing what they can do. She made public the mobs recipe on meat balls and gravy. Looks like we will have to change locations again. Excellent video!
I just bought my AC160 and was delivered on 8/20/2021, I’m interested in learning everything about the camera. I know it got discontinued but I need to use it for 1st and primarily for streaming on FB Live 2nd a public access TV station (CAN TV) teaches the AC 130 and felt that would strengthen my grasping a hands on Experience with camera and I wanted to get the graded model I bought it $1200, for my church cause they where going through financial constraints due to the pandemic and my central a/c had failed in May and by the time I had Requested pulling some my annuity out and the summer was coming to an end the prices were dropping and had been watching this camera for so long and I prayed on it God has been so good to me Been shot, kidney transplant within months, emergency spinal surgery twice with a heart attack from septic shock in between I should have been paralyzed but yet I can walk! God has watched over me 37yrs Military, 29 yrs on the Chicago Police Department, and 14 yrs at Chicago City Colleges I was compelled to give up 5 grand to bring my church to date.
Yes. Behind the LCD monitor (when flipped out) you'll see some assignment switches for the audio. Switch channels to 1 and 2 and audio will come from the built-in xlr ports. If no microphones are connected, you'll get no sound. That is one way. However your AVCHD video will still have audio channels associated with it when you edit the video, although there will be no sound on it. Did I answer your question?
If you're not going to add a lens adapter that will take a standard camera lens, then you'll need to try the following: With plenty of light available, have your subject stand 10 or more feet away and zoom in and get focus. With a wide iris setting, you'll see that the subject is in focus, and the background is blurry. You could try this closer than 10 feet. The key is to have an open iris, which is what creates depth of field. Add gain if you need to provide more "light" in this scenario.
I address this issue in my video called AVCHD Tips And Tricks. But to answer your question, files can only be 4GB then they split. Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 and later will join the clips without the break. Just copy your entire SD card to your computer and use Premiere Pro's Media Browser panel and import the 00000.mts file and all the others will come along without the break. There isn't a way to keep the files from splitting. It's designed to split at 4GB.
I've always liked how Panasonic handles color. However the AG-AC160 is big and heavy. On a tripod you can do wonders with this camera. The Sony NX5 is a little lighter and may snap focus quicker when set on auto focus as compared to the AG-AC160. But when push comes to shove, I think the picture is a little sharper on the AG-AC160. That's my pick. Good luck deciding.
Panasonic added a "snap-focus" feature onto the AG-AC160A. I own the 160P and will send it in to Panasonic service to have this upgrade. I haven't heard anything about whether the turbo focus is an improvement or what. Also the 160A has 60P in 1920x1080, whereas the 160A requires a free software update.
What are the benefits of these cameras over the Panasonic AF100? The Panasonic AF100 you can change lens. Are these cameras better for run and gunning? Thanks Dave!
Yes. The Panasonic AF100 takes a little more finesse to operate. What you gain with the AF100 is depth of field (DOF) with your subject sharp and background out of focus. That is often how Hollywood movies achieve that cinematic "look". The AG-AC160 can achieve a degree of DOF but not as much. The AG-AC160 is better for run and gun, as you say, however it's a bit heavier than my older HMC150 (also a great camera).
The tripod is a Manfrotto 3021 Pro, the head is a Manfrotto 501. The zoom controller is from VariZoom. Yes, the controller and tripod kit were sold separately. Learn more at my HowNowVideo(dot)com Buy Gear link and click the bottom-most ad. It'll jump you to my trusted vendor.
This looks a great camera, I have been looking into cameras to be able to film ice skating events. You may have mentioned but can I ask what is the tripod, tripod head and tripod camera controls you are using, did the camera controler on the tripod handle have to be bought separately? Thanks in advance for your help.
Unfortunately I'm not familiar with Edius. But in general, the first file is usually named 0000.mts, the second 0001.mts, and so on, contained on your SD card. If you are copying the entire card to your hard drive, especially the folder called Private, then Edius is sure to find the correct files. But again, I'm not familiar with Edius, just Premiere Pro. Check Edius' user forums if they have them.
I think the quality of the lens is good. The autofocus is poor however. I shoot on manual focus mostly, or when I'm doing run-and-gun video, I set focus on some random point, say 20 feet. It's only when doing tight zooms that focus needs to be spot on. On wide shots you can set the focus almost anywhere. My Panasonic TM700 (little camera) does spot-on autofocus. It's too bad this larger camera struggles so much. The HMC150 is much better with autofocus and the video looks just as good.
Is the Sony HDR SR11 good for starters? It's a 1080P camcorder. The footage looks a bit grainy at times when I view it on my TV, I use an HDMI to view my videos.
At school I am learning to make short movies and documentaries and that sort of thing. I am in my first year and know a little something about pro cameras. I want to buy a camera for my school work and for making my own movies. Do you have an advise on whitch camera I should buy? (I have some videos on my channel as an example)
Hi - We have the AG-AC130 camera - is there any way to use this to "livestream" something? aka, use it as a glorified webcam? I realize this is overkill. It appears to me the only way to do this would be using the FireWire DV cable... I was hoping it was possible using the USB 2.0 connector. Any advice?
One quick question when I am recording in 1080p my mts files only go up to around 4.29 gigs and then it makes a new file is there anyway to just keep it one big file instead of having a lot of mts files that I have to line up in a row, also when I do line them up I seem to loose a little bit of the video going to the next file maybe a few frames it seems, do I have something set wrong?
If you're getting .avi files you must have your camera set to record in standard definition, not the regular high-definition AVCHD files. The .avi mode seems to have a very strange naming style, as you said. It sounds like you're trying to keep your clips in chronological order, which is difficult to do with such a strange naming convention of .avi files. But to answer your question, you'll need to manually re-name the files if you want different names. Or just shoot AVCHD in the first place.
I'd love to, but I can't get my hands on cameras which I don't buy first. I used to get things on loan from B and H Video, but they stopped that program.
David, i tried to download files from memory card to computer via Edius edtiting prg. Problem is, files gets there all lost, not in correct order the way they were filmed. Is there an option to correct them in order? Thanks again !
Hi, David, i am having a problem with my Panasonic AC160A, It was bought brand new from b&h and every time i record an event, it always forms a new clip every 26mins 29secs, or 4GB, i don't have a problem with it forming new clips if the clips would line up seamlessly in post, but there is always a drop in the audio and some skipping in the video at every new clip, could you please shed some light on this for me please, thanks in advance, Edward from Trinidad,
when you use fat 32 file system on mmc it will always divide the file equal-ant to 4 gb. i think you should use 64 gb card then you will not face the problem bcoz it uses exfat system or format your old card to exfat system
thanks much, i do use lexar 64gb cards together with lexar 32gb and they both do the same thing, what I'm beginning to find out is how i had the camera set up in the menu settings, i had to change the settings from date and time to time code, (TC)
David, hello again, i think i've got little lost:) Hera is a deal. When i check recorded files, they are like 010LZ00.AVI or 0154w00 and so on. My question would be, is it possible to make them go like 0000001.avi or 0000002.avi and so on? Thank you !
Hi David, I have asked some questions before and you have helped in your replies. I have another question for you. If I wanted to spend near 1,000 dollars to capture nature, birds in flight etc... to do abit of like documentary, what would you suggest in camcorders? I don't mind if the cams are from 2013 to now 2015. I have DSLR's but want a camcorder to add to what I have. I don't care if lenses are not changable, just good optic, zoom and audio mainly, let me know your thoughts and keep the good video clips rolling in, top work mate.
Awesome! Very helpful. AG-AC130 camera question: I need to shoot flame in as high def as possible and also (if possible) slow it down in slow-mo when I am editing it. What recommendations on settings do you have for this?
Shelby Malvestuto Shoot in 60p, then in Premiere Pro (that's what I use) time stretch your video to twice the length and you'll get half-time slow motion. That's a simple way. 60p is a standard setting option for this camera, double the standard 30p (therefore slow motion ability). Search TH-cam for slow motion effect on 60p in Premiere Pro.
***** Your amazing! thank you! I have it currently on 1080/60p (should it be 1080 or 720??). Is there a setting to change the frames per second so that it is 60fps or is that what the 1080/60p stands for? Does the AC130 allow changes to the FPS?
I looking to buy the AG-AC130A for a web-series. I noticed that in your video you said that the main difference was the SDI. What is the SDI and what does it do.
SDI is a way to connect the camera directly to a video switcher, like in a studio when you have many cameras all going to a console where the person controls which camera is seen live on TV.
dteubner almost forgot. does it accept other mics. Im still new to recording. so correct me if im wrong but i want to have really good audio, so a boom with a mic on it. would i be able to do that
How is the low light sharpness on these 2 cameras? I currently shoot weddings with a Panasonic AG-AC90 and I am not very happy with the low light quality. It's pretty grainy/noisy. I assume since the 130/160 series is more expensive that it may perform better in low light, but I am not sure. Thanks
The 130/160 will be a bit better with 1/3" chips instead of the 1/4. However, some folks are going to the new Sony a7S (here: www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1044728-REG/sony_ilce7s_b_alpha_a7s_mirrorless_digital.html) because of its killer low-light ability.
That depends on if you're making DVDs, Blu-Rays or TH-cam uploads. I use Premiere Pro and there are presets for each of these types of outputs. Watch my channel. Some of the newer videos discuss rendering and such.
Great video. I have the AC130 version. It's an awesome camcorder my only complain is that it cuts around 30 mins creates a new clip. I'm not sure if this is a safety feature but some of my clients want 1 single video clip with no cuts. I ran through the manual I can't find this in the setting. I hope someone can help me here. Thank you in advance
As far as I know, the clips are always that way. More recent cameras from Panasonic, like the HC-X1 gives you an option to make it all one file. If you have the DVD that came with the camera there might be some joining software on it. Not sure. I used to use something called MTSMerger (a utility) that would stitch the files together. Also, if you have Adobe Creative Cloud you can use Prelude to import, and join the files and render them to perhaps h.264 or another format. But if you want to give the client the SD card, they will always be in 4GB units. Newer cameras don't do this.
I never use 24p. It can look jumpy if you don't know what you're doing. I have always shot 1080/60i. Your editing program can export out progressive after the fact if that's what you need. I always use manual everything, but set your white balance to 3200k (stage lighting). Ride your aperture (iris) to prevent faces from over exposing. Watch my Video Exposure Techniques here: Video Exposure Techniques
unknown Export your Premiere Pro sequence (control-M) and choose H.264 format and scroll down to the preset called TH-cam HD 1080p 29.97. However if your final output is to standard DVD (not TH-cam) I typically save out to AVI Widescreen to import into Encore for DVD creation. Watch my other videos and I go through some of this stuff.
dteubner Hi Dave I've been a subber to your channel for a while now from my other channel (TheRockBoxTv) and I've just subbed with this one, I have an AC 130 and was wondering if you could help me. I've been trying to find the best settings to get the flattest picture style possible in the camcorder being as I do a lot of colour correction and grading. I was wondering if you have any idea as to what the best settings for desaturating and unsharpening in camera would be and also which picture style should be used to get the flattest image possible. I do hope you reply to my question, as I'm really up a tree about this and don't know where to look for the answers. Thanks Rem
Remo Fiore I shoot in picture style F6. That seems to be the flattest setting. I tend to bump up the black levels a tad in post using curves. I don't have any other suggestions for what is best for color grading. Just experiment and determine what works best for you.
hi, i would like to ask your opinion abouth this cameras...wich is better, i have sony fx1000 and i would like to change it. could u please recommend . thx.... i've seen the mirrorless from sony but i would like to stay on the heavy one... wich is better: Panasonic HC-x1000 vs Sony FDR-AX1 or panasonic 160/130? i used for weddings. thank you
Miky Hudson I use my Panasonic AG-AC160 for stage performances mostly. My favorite camera for documentary style is the Canon C100 with the 24-105mm lens. Very cinematic. It all depends on what type of work you do. If you need good zooming for stage performances, the Panasonic is a better choice. If more art-type work, I prefer the Canon. As for the cameras you list as options, things are changing so quickly now. I also have a Panasonic GH4. That's a good choice. There are lots of reviews online and I always shop at B & H Photo where there are lots of reviews. One thing, any new camera you buy will get you away from cassette tapes, which is a good thing. I know that Panasonic is coming out later in the year with a new 4K called the AG-DVX200. That's the one I'll probably by for stage work (plays, concerts, etc.). Sorry I can't tell you what to buy. Good luck deciding. It's hard to go wrong these days. Every camera has its quirks and you can get beautiful results once you learn a specific camera.
Bought 2 Camera Panasonic AG-AC160AEN. After 2 years they both broke !!! I operated small. Both cameras record button is not functioning properly. (( The model is good, but there are problems.
I had my on/off button replaced after 3 years. That is also the record button. I sent it to a certified Panasonic center for fixing. It cost $400 if I remember correctly.
Thank you, David! I'm an electronics. 2 days ago dismantled and repaired the button itself. On the repair button is gone for 3 hours. Yesterday and today worked. The camera works fine! :) Repairs cost $ 0. :))
I have Panasonic AG-AC130EJ. I am a Video-Shooter in wedding, meeting, etc... When I finish my work and sit for editing there I can see some kind of disturbance in my recorded video. Some frequency disturbance like that. I am using high speed card and recording mood which is suitable the card. Can you suggest me something which I can do? Please Reply.
You haven't told me what program you edit your footage in. I use Premiere Pro which is smart enough to match footage to the editing sequence. Perhaps you're having issues with PAL versus NTSC or something. I shoot in 60p always.
Murtaza Kapasi I don't know if Pinnacle is smart enough to set your editing timeline correctly for your footage. Perhaps your PAL footage is going into a NTSC timeline and creating some weirdness. You'll need to ask someone else. I use Premiere Pro.
You might want to ask your question at DVXUSER.com. They have discussions about Panasonic cameras. I've never considered a 3D camera myself. You'll certainly need a HD TV that supports 3D and that's something I don't own. I'm sorry but I can't really give you any advice on this one.
Go to my HowNowVideo(dot)com website and look at the Buy Gear link. Those cameras are all good. Prices begin around $3000 and go up to $15000. I use the Panasonic AG-AC160. I used the Panasonic HMC150 for a few years. Also, the Sony PMW-EX1R (with 1/2" sensors) is a great camera. Check them out at my website.
I buy everything from my trusted vendor. See link at HowNowVideo(dot)com on the Get Gear link. Click any product you see, then do a search for Manfrotto. I think I spent around $300 for the tripod and head, although it's been many years. Any "fluid head" tripod should do the trick. You can read comments to see what tripod and head combo is hot.
I have the AG-AC130 and the auto focus is awful. I'm actually never going to buy a Panasonic again because they should not have sold a camera at that price that can't focus correctly. I had the HMC-150 and the auto focus was outstanding every time. I upgraded to the AG-AC130 and got a very bad camera for auto focus and sound quality compared to the HMC-150. Panasonic should make better cameras with each new release and not go backwards like they did with this camera. Very disappointed with Panasonic and as I said, they've lost my business forever.
I'd love to, but I can't get my hands on cameras which I don't buy first. I used to get things on loan from B and H Video, but they stopped that program.

Great video David. I was struggling with some of the mic settings and this got me there. Thanks.
Yes David, thank you again ! Nice camera:) Love it :)
Outstanding review!
You should try to review the new Panasonic AG-AC90
Thanks for review Dave. Great work!

The camera records in full 1920x1080 (with square pixels), so there is no stretching involved. It's "full-raster" in other words.

That's an awesome camera indeed
I looking to buy the AG-AC130A for a web-series.
I noticed that in your video you said that the main difference was the SDI.
What is the SDI and what does it do.
SDI is a way to connect the camera directly to a video switcher, like in a studio when you have many cameras all going to a console where the person controls which camera is seen live on TV.
oh ok
thanks.
And im really not sure if you can anwser this but would this camera fit on the Ronin gimbal by DJI?
dteubner almost forgot.
does it accept other mics.
Thanks for such a quick and helpful response!
That depends on if you're making DVDs, Blu-Rays or TH-cam uploads. I use Premiere Pro and there are presets for each of these types of outputs. Watch my channel. Some of the newer videos discuss rendering and such.
very nice cam....
Newer cameras don't do this.
thank you for the response! :)
AG-AC130A question - Planning to shoot Stage Video (Dance Recital). What would be best setting and shouid I shoot in auto mode? 1080/24p or 1080/30p?
I never use 24p. It can look jumpy if you don't know what you're doing. I have always shot 1080/60i. Your editing program can export out progressive after the fact if that's what you need. I always use manual everything, but set your white balance to 3200k (stage lighting). Ride your aperture (iris) to prevent faces from over exposing. Watch my Video Exposure Techniques here: Video Exposure Techniques
Thank you for your suggestion. Could you please let me know how would I export 1080/60i footage to progressive in premiere pro cs6?
unknown Export your Premiere Pro sequence (control-M) and choose H.264 format and scroll down to the preset called TH-cam HD 1080p 29.97.
Just experiment and determine what works best for you.
hi,
i would like to ask your opinion abouth this cameras...wich is better, i have sony fx1000 and i would like to change it. could u please recommend . thx.... i've seen the mirrorless from sony but i would like to stay on the heavy one... wich is better: Panasonic HC-x1000 vs Sony FDR-AX1 or panasonic 160/130? i used for weddings.
thank you
Miky Hudson I use my Panasonic AG-AC160 for stage performances mostly. Every camera has its quirks and you can get beautiful results once you learn a specific camera.
thx a lot, i know and saw a few things... i will inform like i did fro fx1000. thx again and good luck
sir please test sony hdr nx 100 and Review
Very good.
Great. If you run into question, drop me a line.

You haven't told me what program you edit your footage in. I use Premiere Pro which is smart enough to match footage to the editing sequence. Perhaps you're having issues with PAL versus NTSC or something. I shoot in 60p always.
I use Pinnacle 14 and 16 for editing.
Murtaza Kapasi I don't know if Pinnacle is smart enough to set your editing timeline correctly for your footage. Perhaps your PAL footage is going into a NTSC timeline and creating some weirdness. You'll need to ask someone else. I use Premiere Pro.
Pinnacle is good in handling! We have done editing of Sony NX5 to.
Does it matter in transferring speed of card or computer? I am using Intel i5!
QUAL É MELHOR ENTRE ESTA E A Sony HXR-NX5N
nice! keep up the good work! 1st view!
Nice
Hmm... I've been to Keene NH
Thanks.
You might want to ask your question at DVXUSER.com. They have discussions about Panasonic cameras. I've never considered a 3D camera myself. You'll certainly need a HD TV that supports 3D and that's something I don't own. I'm sorry but I can't really give you any advice on this one.
Thanks ! :)
Check them out at my website.
all events shutter
l have a ag_ac130
I buy everything from my trusted vendor. See link at HowNowVideo(dot)com on the Get Gear link. Click any product you see, then do a search for Manfrotto. I think I spent around $300 for the tripod and head, although it's been many years. Any "fluid head" tripod should do the trick. You can read comments to see what tripod and head combo is hot.
Please reply it's urgent!

Anyone else find it creepy he's filming random people on the street?
I have the AG-AC130 and the auto focus is awful. I'm actually never going to buy a Panasonic again because they should not have sold a camera at that price that can't focus correctly. I had the HMC-150 and the auto focus was outstanding every time. I upgraded to the AG-AC130 and got a very bad camera for auto focus and sound quality compared to the HMC-150. Panasonic should make better cameras with each new release and not go backwards like they did with this camera. Very disappointed with Panasonic and as I said, they've lost my business forever.
l am Video shutter.
I haven't tried it yet. It looks promising. Check out dvxusers(dot)com and see what folks are saying.
I'd love to, but I can't get my hands on cameras which I don't buy first. I used to get things on loan from B and H Video, but they stopped that program.
