Big Band's Satchmo Solo might just be Skullgirls' greatest gift to video games. Five uninterrupted seconds to style on someone musically is probably worth five bars of meter.
As a music major aiming to go into game soundtrack writing, gimmicks like this are sometimes enough to draw me into games on their own. (If freshman year of a college music degree wasn’t devouring 90% of my time)
@@TogekissMyFroslass after playing violin for over a decade, it isn’t very hard, but they aren’t very nice to first-year students in terms of scheduling… I’m managing, though. Thanks for asking!
I was thinking the same but I think what we are misaligning is the mvc2 from ps2 and the mvc2 that was re-released on ps3/360. Last I checked, that version released after the hype of UMVC3 and tourneys were held for it for a little while. I think it was during the latter's mvc2's lifetime it was used, which might be tricking us up. Bcuz, when I think about it, I never heard of "Happy Birthdays" UNTIL umvc3 popped off and had godlike commentators. However, since Yipes is well known for commentating mvc2 games in the past, which is where we got the famous "Mag-Freaking-Neto" and "Where yo curleh mustache at?" lines, I wouldn't be surprised if he said something along those lines in mvc2 days and the player referenced it against PR Balrog in umvc3 and it took flight from there thanks to the community.

wait, what? what do you mean the origins aren't known. Noel Brown coined the term, playing at the House of Crack with Bum. Thats where it came from. "oh you gave me him too? it must be my birthday". then he started calling it happy birthday
For context for people who don’t know, the happy birthday song being played is not default in the game. Different buttons play different notes, so that guy had practiced which buttons make the notes to happy birthday
It's rare to see, but if an opponent calls for a Team Hyper Combo which summons all characters to perform a super altogether and their opponent clips their attempt with an attack (usually a super of their own) that interrupts all of the supers at once and they capitalize on the giant opportunity to take out all their team at once.
@speshadowalker Exactly! Full Invis supers are free real estate. Just a timing thing by that point. For example, dp super before THC will obliterate the dp super, especially if bionic arms are in the mix. But dp super on reaction should beat out the THC regardless of what’s included. Only counter from there is X-Factor to protect point char. Otherwise, like I said, free.
IMO I think that the origin is the fact that when you call an unsafe assist it’s like that character is being “born” when they appear for the first time, thus making the term “happy birthday” an ironic jab at how unsafe their call is
Singular they has been used for quite some time when the person being discussed is of unknown gender or just completely unknown. You’ve probably used it that way too and just not realized

DAWG IM DYING AT BIG BANDS HAPPY BIRTHDAY SONG AT THE START
Yup it’s a video that’s been on TH-cam for years, and it NEVER gets old, my favorite part is the "happy birthday?"
Best way to signify what they were about to do and for those wondering what it is exactly.
I thought it was called a "happy birthday" because everyone is invited
That's actually a cool alternative way to interpret it
Yeah, that's pretty clever
And on a merry Christmas all family gathered
That first skull girls clip is genuinely one of my favorite fighting game clips of all time, it’s so perfect
I love how’s it’s an intended mechanic of all team fighters but just has an unofficial name
Big Band clips will never not be the funniest shit.
I love how big band can just disrespect you with a tune and knock out you at the same time
this is a good time to say
"have a happy birthday everyone"
Everyone say thank you Yipes
Datodoya calling it a double Sunday
DOTODOYA, DOTO, D-O-Y-A😡
dotodoya is really funny when he used to play dbfz he's my goat😊
@@Pigletdontplay yeah I agree, Dotadayo is rlly funny
John is a real guy with actual lore. He’s not just a made up straw man who makes excuses for losing. He’s a real guy that does that.
I swear happy birthday was used as a term in MVC2 way before 3 came out

Doom combo by pochoboto
That big bang clip might be one of my favorite of all time
Big band is just a big menace 😂😂😂 saw a guy delete all of his accounts characters leaving out big bands and taunts us 😂😂😂
Ggst 3v3 finna be a whole birthday part then
Plot twist, the origin of this is when Russian Badger went back in time to train for the MvC tournament
I love this character SPECIFICALLY. Idc about the fucking game. THIS MAN IS AMAZING.
Boy fighting game terms are so representative of the community like happy birthday and john it feels like an underwhelming college party in a good way
Watching this on my actual birthday and am a fighting game player.
What was that game 1 before the end? It looked so cool

Finally someone remembers 🎉
How many times are you gonna watch the bithday solo jingle?
Yes
My boy yipes shoutout to him!
My favorite example of happy birthday is Gary(from lythero) yelling HAPPY BOO BOO
It was earlier than this. I remember being at arcades during mvc2 and people calling it happy birthday.
Big Band violated them with that move.
I think it was Yipes from the FGC who first mentioned the happy birthday 🎂
and if you get all three characters, it's called a "Merry Christmas"
Happy birthday is way older then MVC3U common man
A gift rocks calls assist I kill happy birth day jonny
Me and my friends do this but if you get both blunts at the same time in a rotation
I'm like 99% sure it was Noel Brown who climbed the term
THEY'RE TRACKING US. THEY'RE GONNA SHIP OUR BALLS TO THE MOON
I thought it was created when SonicFox knocked out two of his opponent's characters in a Skullgirls tourney back in like 2013
Happy birthdays are very common in mk1

How does one catch all the characters at once?
They have to tag both of their teammates in

That's why i dont usually do assists 😭
Imagine being the reason it's called a happy birthday. o7
Damn, just in time for my birthday lol
what about a happy halloween
Been a thing since marvel 2
I thought it was called a happy birthday because you get them as soon as theyre born into the game.
Actually it was mvc2 that started the phrase
Or in shenanigoons case a happy boo boo😂😂😂
It most definitely did not come from ultimate mvc3. I distinctly remember someone saying it early in the vanilla mvc3 days.
BIG BAND THAT WAS NOT NECESSARY
Its called happy birthday cuz its a gift!
Ngl thoight it woulda gotten the name from the tagged fighter just being spawned in. Like he didnt even take his first steps.
I heard it referred to as a double sunday
Marvel vs Capcom 2 actually the original origin.
Isn’t in dbfz it’s called a double Sunday and all 3 is happy birthday? That’s what I call it and hear the most
