i really love this movie. the others are just as enjoyable but i feel like it become always about just winning a competition. here they really knew how to build a background for the characters. the whole plot involving jenna and channing's characters are just... on point. tyler had an unfortunate environment as did his friends and this led him to lose one of them. nora loves dancing but doesn't have a good relationship with her mother bcs she isn't approving of her passion and nora is literally fighting to be able to do what she loves. even the secondary characters are well developed enough for you to feel empathy for them. not to mention the subtle criticisms throughout the film. after step up 1 they barely did anything like that nor gone too far w the social criticism. the closest we had was in step up 4.

well said👏 very well in step up 1 i felt this way, too. for example in this dance they express their feelings and emotions, i feel like it is about them the most, in other step up movies, do not get me wrong, they are good, but they dance because yes, their characters love dancing, but it is about competitions, too, in this movie it is not about any competition, it is about pure love and tyler showing their friends and nora showing her mother how much dancing means to them.
