Woohoo - New update for the Blackmagic Camera App, bringing it up to version 1.3 - Not a huge update, but a couple of solid additions like Audio Monitoring via connected headphones and rack focus controls and some improvements to the responsiveness of the app when switching from horizontal to vertical mode and back, as well as some improvements to the hdmi-feed with lower latency and overlay of recording info like reel, scene and take during recording.
    From the update listings:
    - Support for audio monitoring on connected earphones.
    - Support for rack focus controls in the camera.
    - Support for 48mm lens on iPhone 14 Pro and 15 Pro.
    - Smoother animations when switching between landscape and portrait.
    - Faster project listing in media tab.
    - Reduced latency for HDMI video feeds.
    - Name, reel, scene and take now display over HDMI during recording.
    - General performance and stability improvements.
This is a minor 1.2 to 1.3 update, just before NAB, so crossing fingers for a bigger update at NAB.

Hey thanks for the “Color Space Tag” tip. I was also set to “Same as Capture” and noticed the glowing red/blue phenomena. Changed to Rec 709 and problem solved!

Thanks for watching and the nice feedback :) Yeah, just keep an eye on the LUT-settings if you have a display LUT active and use presets - my presets where saved with «Same as capture», so every time I load a preset it resets the Color Space Tag-setting, took a while to figure out why it kept resetting … duh

Thanks :) It was a quick spur-of-the-moment thing pivoting from the video I *was* working on this week, trying to see if I could pivot in one day and turn out a video in 12 hours :) Still figuring out where I need to invest my time in prep and «script»/notes vs recording vs editing. The conclusion so far is I need to try spend more time «rehearsing» what to say before recording, since I spend *way* too much time slicing pieces and sentences together from X amount of takes. So better «show notes» and a clearer understanding of what I’m actually gonna say *before recording* will hopefully make editing and structuring the vids faster, leaving more time for some spice and garnish ;)

@andresjoberg, I totally get that! script and storyboard are my greatest struggle. My views are good, but retention is very low. I'm nearing my 500 minimum subscribers, but my viewed time is still way off! I'm hoping to change that with my next video. 🤞

@@adventureswithnate Yeah, I hear ya, I've been focusing primarily on getting the processes down for my first videos, focusing on "the infrastructure" of making the vids and not so much on the storytelling aspect and all the little tricks for keeping people watching other than making things at least have some usefull info ;) One thing I tried on my latest short I published today was, instead of writing the script, I turned on dictation in Word and spoke - and it went SO MUCH FASTER getting that first script draft done. Just sitting down speaking out loud, digressing and pausing (since dictation pauses when you pause) and continuing again, and then popping into the text to do small edits and tightenings of the text as I talk, getting a flow for the script REALLY fast - and then it's much easier to take that text and start to organize the flow, pick out some paragraphs to start things off with, doing some small teases to keep people hooked etc - So if you're struggling with that first draft and organizing things try recording yourself with the dictation tool and then edit the text, worked wonders for me for the next couple of videos I'm working on now :)

You are right, the same as capture setting for the default display lut worked fine until the update.
In saying that however, for certain luts, it would oversaturate the red and greens if using the same as capture setting, but from memory only when burning the lut in blackmagic directly.
THE ONE LUT is an example of where colour space has to be set from same as capture to rec709 as per their tutorial video below:

Great :) Thanks for taking the time to watch and confirming my suspicion :) And yeah, as long as the lut isn’t burned into the footage all is still fine when editing in Davinci Resolve, so it should be a quick fix for Blackmagic Design to update this in a 1.3.1 or 1.3.0.1 update :) I’ll check the video you linked as well, thanks for sharing :)

Just watched the video you linked to, and a bit confused because they used an older version of the blackmagic camera app from 5 months ago that don’t have the setting I had to change in the camera app, they dis however set colorshare to rec709 in the editing app, davinci resolve, but that’s a totally different step in the process, handling how to convert log footage to «normal» looking footage in the editing environment :)
In my video i show how to fix the oversaturated colors in the camera app for display purposes, not applying the look to the footage, just displaying in preview on the phone :) I think davinci resolve, using the «yrgb color managed» setting, handles the conversion to rec709 automatically, but if one wants to use something like the one lut instead one has to turn of the color managed-setting and follow «one luts» instructions to apply it to the final footage :)

My bad, the one lut video link is their earlier video before the option to burn in lut in blackmagic was available.
They did make a newer video when option to burn lut in native blackmagic app was introduced, but they must have deleted that video recently. That particular deleted video tutorial did mention having to change from same as capture to rec709.
I agree, the new update has introduced an issue with displaying oversaturated colours, but glad it is working fine in Davinci Resolve.
Good pick up and good video :)
