This episode made me so happy as someone who played the game. The magazine scene, ellie saving Joel, him teaching her about the gun, and Joel can't stop laughing from Ellie's jokes.
That's funny, in the french dub, the pun ellie tells when they're sleeping in the field is "what do you call a man holding a gun in a wheat field?" and Joel responds with "easy, a cereal killer". I thought that was a good one and it can work in both languages. It's funny to see that it was completely different in English. The translators had fun with those shitty puns lol
In spanish it's also different haha, it was "what does the traffic light say to another traffic light? Look away! Don't you see I'm changing?" Cause you would say "I'm changing" when you're taking off your clothes in spanish

I don't think Kathleen was in the walking dead, but as soon as Roshi brought that up she instantly gave me the vibe of the Police Officer (Dawn) Leading the hospital where Everybody hates Chris was. So maybe that's who he was thinking of.
That sad moment when you realize Joel didn't want her having a gun not because he didn't like them or thought she'd accidentally shoot herself or him but he did it to protect her innocence. 😢
I like the game more. in „the walking dead“ telltale we learn how quick „protected“ kids die because they freeze up,can’t help themselves etc. So I prefer how Lee snd Joel in both games teach the girl how to help herself in case of emergency.
Canned food lasts pretty much indefinitely provided that the can isn't dented, swollen, or rusted. Still, I won't recommend unnecessarily trying to eat very old canned food unless one is in the post-apocalypse lol
we had some old canned fruit but even though it was in peak condition my mom knew something was wrong because it felt light. so we opened one out of curiosity and it was practically empty.only at the bottom and the sides was some stuff growing with spores. immediately got rid of all the light cans but that was still a weird experience.
I LOVED this episode. When Ellie pulled out the joke book I was so happy 😂. You literally had to wait around for Ellie to pull it out in the game. The direct lines in the truck. Great bonding moments. Great show!
They had a bigger budget than the first five seasons of Game of Thrones. They used $10-$15mil + per episode so it wasn't a matter of budget, they are just telling a story for a different medium and moving bits around so that the baddies don't become old hat off the jump (this isn't a concern in video games because you're busy trying not to crap your pants while stealthing around the same enemies over and over).
I like how the ground shaking part in this episode reminds some people of Emergence Day from Gears Of War. I never played them (though I wish) but I know what they mean about "Emergence Day" in that franchise.
I am so glad they covered the gas thing in this because yeah it's a recurring thing in these post apocalyptic stories that gas is just easy to get (except for Road Warrior, but even in that, there was a refining set up), but yeah, gasoline degrades pretty quickly.
1:01 SPOILER ALERT. I went back and watched someone play the portion of the game with Frank. There were nearly 60 clickers through that whole section. They definitely saved on budget in the show 😂
I was having doubts about Joel and Ellie's chemistry in the show..but after this episode, I'm so blown away how amazing the show developed their chemistry..like it's perfectly executed..not too overwhelming and cheesy but also not too underwhelming as well..this is definitely my 2nd fave episode after the 1st episode

So the reason the last episode was focused more on bill's relationship is that, that was something the developers were unable to explore in the game but wanted to. You can find hidden letters in game that talk about their relationship but there was never a way to fully explore their story without getting too side tracked in the game so the left it unsaid.
