  • In late December 1988 a terrorist bomb destroyed Pan Am Flight 103 over the Scottish town of Lockerbie and killed 270 people.
Only one man, Abdel Basset al-Megrahi, a Libyan citizen, was tried and found guilty of causing the explosion. But he protested his innocence at the time of his trial in Camp Zeist in Holland in May 2000, and continued to do so up until his death in Tripoli in May 2012.
For three years filmmakers working for Al Jazeera have been investigating the prosecution of al-Megrahi.
Probe identifies suspects over Lockerbie bombing
Two award-winning documentaries, screened on Al Jazeera in 2011 and 2012, demonstrated that the case against him was deeply flawed and argued that a serious miscarriage of justice may have taken place.
Now, in our third and most disturbing investigation, we answer the question left hanging at the end of our last programme: if al-Megrahi was not guilty of the Lockerbie bombing, then who was?

There really isn't enough here to blame Gaddafi. The pilot of the jet was blinded by the sun, that about did it. Very sorry they were imprisoned, if they acted on Gaddafi's orders, they'd have been more hushed up. When you see similar dates of events, this sometimes indicates occult forces happening. I hope those pilots didn't undergo torture while in prison. More evidence is wanting if you want to blame Gaddafi. The Boeing maintained 3000 feet, the jet was at 2000 feet, now one of these figures is an obvious lie or mistake. If the pilot of the jet was blinded by the sun, he was thrown off guard and more than likely lost some control. Quit blaming Gaddafi for everything, sure Idi Amin wasn't the best influence for him, Gaddafi may have made some mistakes but he was not the instigator of every evil under the sun.

I fully believe the cause described by the witnesses, that because of the lack of coordination between military and the civilian use of the airport and the single runway, and Gadhafi's no-fly zone (in other words a clusterfuck of aviation management and governance of the nation). Gadhafi certainly wanted this clusterfuck covered up, as well as admitting any fault for it, and the repercussions from it, in foreign affairs, as well as liability in Libya (financial etc.). Being blinded by the sun obviously played a huge role.

1:18 The correct flight number ought to be LN 1103, the 'LY' designator is for El Al Israel Airlines. Any loss of life in an aviation accident is horrific irrespective of political sentiments towards the nation/s involved.
All too often when people discuss such tragedies there is always an emphasis on the passengers killed or injured. The aircrew are just as valuable both flight crew members and cabin crew members, after all it is their place of work.
Despite the degree of competition that exists among airlines, when an aircraft is lost, throughout the industry we champion our colleagues when they successfully bring a crippled aircraft down and swiftly evacuate to safety all onboard such as TACA 110 in New Orleans, US Air 1549 in New York, Air France 358 in Toronto and Asiana 214 in San Francisco.
Just as we sincerely mourn and respect our colleagues who went to work like any other day but tragically failed to be able to sign off and ever go home, along with their most precious passengers. Vale to them all!
The primary role of the cabin crew is for the safety and security of those passengers entrusted to their care, we are never there to irritate you with our rules and regulations, although I concede that some crew's approach certainly requires a little more professionalism.
An aircraft is more of a unique environment than many appreciate as it has become so much more pedestrian, particularly with the development of low cost airlines.
The 'bothersome' rules/regulations have been well researched and skilfully developed across the industry as a consequence of previous accidents/incidents, and other identified weaknesses to maintain a safe a secure experience for all.
They are to prevent potential breeches in the integrity of safe operations. In my opinion safety and service go hand in hand, I encourage my crew to avoid industry jargon and qualify their regulatory requests politely. If you are ever unsure why an action is being asked of you and you’re not sure of the reason for it, when the time is appropriate politely ask why and your crew member should be only too happy to explain the rationale.
For those with a fear of flying there is no cause for concern, please know that it is these well developed rules and regulations, in addition to the extensive training and discipline of the flight and cabin crew, that significantly contribute to flying be far safer than travelling by motor vehicle.
Sincerely, we are never trying to upset you or ruin your day, only make it safer for you and us. This is our regular workplace after all and we want your time with us to be safe and enjoyable. Because if it was up to us we would absolutely ensure you had a great deal more space like there used to be before airfare competition became so intense, that extra rows were squeezed in and washrooms made narrower!

How ridiculous to be so unnecessarily deceitful, it seriously highlights his instability and insanity! It was a tragic accident secondary to inefficient and impractical ATC jurisdiction.
There was no need assassinate that honest decent man who pledged to uncover the truth, which would have been totally acceptable .
All traffic should have been under the direction of the same controllers, whether they were civilian are military is unimportant. However a fully transparent model for ALL airmen and controllers is essential to know the exact position of ALL aircraft.
Despite his well overdue demise, the quality of these former aviator's lives continue to be destroyed because of established conspiracy theories. Though absolutely false such theories are understandably plausible given the malevolence of that irrational insane tyrant.
The horrific degree of terror and abuse he inflicted on his poor citizens is deplorable and unforgivable. Attractive young women/girls were especially in tremendous peril within his vicinity and there was not a thing their fathers or anyone else could do.
The traumatised women of his female bodyguard team were all victims unwillingly picked, their anguish exacerbated being involuntarily placed at his depraved disposal fulfilling his proclivities for the cruel and perverse.
Under his dictatorship innumerable good and decent Libyan citizens were systematically massacred, tortured and assaulted for his sick delight or to abate paranoid delusions. They certainly showed him what they thought of him if they got the chance after he was deposed, and on the run like a terrified mouse! I hope the Libyan people can someday soon prosper in liberty, devoid of oppression and tyranny.
