Not quite your regular game of StarCraft 2. While this match starts off relatively normal, one of the players have got a trick up their sleeve. All of a sudden... Battlecruisers!

"Yamato Cannon" indesputible! Something that destroy almost any unit in one shot cannot be called gun :)

Skipper G44 battleship have both guns and cannons, unless im wrong.
setphiel Dinh battleships dont have cannons... theyre only called guns.
According to google sensei, a cannon is simply put a big gun so both are technically correct. I also remember that ships normally refer to their weapons as "guns" (eg. main guns). I think Blizzard is simply sticking to modern conventions by using gun.

only match up where BC's are not completely useless is TvT, and even there they are easily countered by Ravens
I think mass liberators could have been good against them, as long as they're allowed to mass up to about a dozen before engaging.
Coolio literally could have won if he had just ignored the Ravens or Battlecruisers, built up turrets around his production and just F2'd right into the enemy base. At the very least, he could have easily reduced the enemy Terran to two bases and guaranteed there would be no money for Battlecruisers, but he didn't bother, so of course he lost.
"Battlecruisers can work if your opponent literally just sits on your doorstep while an undefended base mines away" is a rather terrible endorsement.
mass carriers get rekt by battle cruisers hit and run tactic.
cause they can jump individualy and not relly on mass recall.
also 2 BC Yamato 1 carrier then jumps away. Free kill and can be done infinite times, as well as interceptors are like marines, they do low dmg to the BC heavy plating unlike the yamato's high dmg burst.
I remember the first time I played StarCraft 2. I tried to go mass battlecruisers from one base

I don't think the main problem was army splitting or control. That's something to be improved on true, but the main issue here was decision making. If he just f2 a-move into the opponent's base, he can easily clean up the production facilities much quicker than BCs can finish off his own bases. He knew he had the far bigger army, more bases, map control and the bigger bank. Anyway, props to the BC player for his diversionary tactics.

Totally agree. Red player should have ended this game, at least at the first sight of BC, a-move everything into the opponent's base.
not to mention building marines that were hard-countered by Geoff's already built Battlecruisers. Hopefully he'll learn.

When I see mass battlecruisers, I hear "who called in the fleet?" in my mind. Now I wish they buff them in dmg or hit more targets simultaneously.
i always imagine it in my mind the true scale of what it would be like to see 10 or more full-size BCs tac jumping over an enemy base, would be so badass and terrifying

Just for the record, "Mass Recall" is called "Mass" because it's a large area of many units...so not quite the same as an individual teleport :)
The moment when coolio recalled his whole fleet just to take care of that 1 battlecruiser instead of pushing to the enemies base, I knew he'll lose. That was such a dumb move hahaha

Me too, maybe I have watched way too many pro games, but it would be easier for me to believe that they are silver or low gold than master.
Looking it up they are indeed Master, albeit newer players overall (to master). That being said in high tier play a common problem is the "prediction" effect. Knowing how your opponent will probably play will cause you to play in unorthodox ways, e.g.: rather then seeing x and thinking x=y you see x and think "they want me to think y when really they will z" so instead of doing what seems obvious they do something else radically off bar.
@@TheWhiskyDelta That's really not why their ranking is being called into question though. The fact that Coolio is F2 A-moving, Geoff is producing next to nothing the first half of the game, and that both of them seem to have spent the majority of the game AFK is why they are being called into question. If these players are truly in the Master league, then I vastly underestimated the capability of players in the current SC2 ladder.

In some of the materials for SC1, it was called Yamato Cannon as well. I also prefer it do to what it does. It isn't an antipersonnel weapon, but a antitank/ship/structure weapon, thus not a gun but a cannon.

I feel like this is one of those warm fuzzy/escapist replays. Who doesn't enjoy a successful switch to battle cruisers? Yeah Terran (gives himself a hug and goes back to reality).

The Yamato Gun/Cannon is a reference to Space Battleship Yamato. Developers at Blizzard were probably fans of the old show. The ship's main weapon, the Hado Hou, has been translated as both Wave Motion Gun and Wave Motion Cannon.
I myself prefer to use the term Yamato Cannon now.

I used to do marine BC in BW from time to time. Rines cost only minerals and BCs cost tons of gas.

just before i started whatching lowko i got into SC2 1V1 and went up in bronze league i went for early game roaches but my oponetnts base was empty then i destroyed it i realised well shit i didnt win he has a hidden base then ...
BASE IS UNDER ATACK i see tempests first 3 then 6 and afterwards 9 they slaughtered all the poor drone until the last heroic drone escaped and made a hatchery in my oponents first base . I lost that game i still remeber the cries of pain of my drone when they didnt get 1 shoted by tempests but instead left at 1 hp

I've heard that "Yamato" is actually a reference to an anime. Older and around the time of SC original. The original star craft had numerous references and Easter eggs to many different things if you've watched enough movies. Aside from that I generally like cannon over gun because it implies the power/damage of the weapon. The last thing I want to mention is, I don't remember where or when I heard/saw it but the SC devs themselves said that getting those hotkeys are very important and that starting additional bases earlier on is very useful. You don't have to do any kind of tournament or competitive etc. to know that those extra bases and hotkeys are crucial in many if not all situations.

that was odd, he was confused by the lack of units and expansions. The 3 cc in the main base was a funny extension of the formula. He also didn't build extra bunkers and turrets not to give away his lack of units.

Someone get this man some flowers. Yamato cannon. The word 'cannon' infers more power and impact then 'gun'. Interesting side note, the name Yamato cannon(gun) is actually a reference to a very old cartoon called 'Star Blazers' in which their chief ship (The Yamato, which is also a reference to the Japanese WW2 battleship) has an incredibly powerful main cannon, fittingly dubbed, 'The Yamato cannon'.
Even more fun fact. Yamato was the admiral who ordered the kamakazi fleet on his air craft carrier to deploy and take out Pearl Harbor.
