- Hey guys, today I’m going to share my best advice on when you should evolve your pokemon in Pokémon GO. Over the first 15 levels of the game, I always struggled with knowing when I should evolve a pokemon, when I should spend that hard earned stardust to power them up, or when I should wait until I catch a better pokemon. It’s frustrating because the game really doesn’t do a good job of telling you how good or bad your pokemon are compared to each other. However, there are a few indicators of whether or not you should invest in evolving or powering up a particular pokemon, or if you should just wait until you catch a better one. These strategies are best used as early as possible so that you can save your stardust for when you really need it most. Enjoy!

I'm level 0 and it's not released yet in my country, but i'd say you're close to pallet town.

The game is new and you probably is in the same area all the time. With the same pokestop too. Try different places and give the game at least 1-2 months. They have not added all the pokemons yet in all the places. Where I live the game just came out like 4-5 days ago. We got the same pokemons in lots of places too but also some variation on others.
Dam just wasted a ton of stardust on a magmar to boost him to 748 and turns out his attack only does 5 damage
Me too. But it was fun.
I noticed that my two toughest Pokémon to catch was a 610 growlithe at level 19 and 528 eevee at level 18. I knew they were going to be strong and have good attacks just because of the fight they put up when I caught them and their high cp. I'm level 20 now, evolved both. The growlithe is now 1764 with 100 fire blast attack and the vaporeon is 1569 with a 90 hydro blast attack. I evolved both right before level 20 and had about 48k stardust to power them up :)
There are some exceptions to this I feel. I caught a Gyarados at level 6 with a very low cp, but I have used stardust to level him up. The same happened with a Nidoking. The odds of me finding a better version of those two is very very low

I am gonna keep one Eevee and alway power it up until I basically feel it is useless to (so 900 Eevee). Once I get there, name it sparky and evolve. Bam, 1000+ jolteon
How do your rules apply to IVs? Do greater IVs translate into more Stardust required and/or increase the maximum potential CP?
This is the first of your Pokémon videos i have watched and i must say i'm impressed. You really do a good job of clearing things up. Definitely leaving a like on this one!
I tested that out but my lower cp Pokémon had more power up potential than the higher cp and when I powered it up to fill the curve the one with more power up potential was a lower cp
I save all my pokemon that i can evolve until I have ~8. Then i use lucky egg and evolve. I level up once and get about half way through the bar for next lvl. I am lvl 17 in a few days.
What about transferring Pokemon when is the best time to do that?
Calculating IV's and knowing them is far more important. IV's don't change, but you can always get more stardust. I'd rather power up a 93.3% Pokemon with a CP of 200 and spend the stardust then level up the same species that has a CP of 1600 with only 40% IV's.
MrLundScience I have a buneary with a cp of 470 but it’s IVs are all above 80% and so ive kept it. Would it be better to evolve than wait until I gain more levels?
why do you keep all those low level pidgeys instead of trasnferring them?
How does evolving affect Pokémon when considering min/max for great league??
I had 600s at level nine thanks to Vaporeon and Flareon. Took 3 gyms with just my vaporeon alone. that and i ended up with infinite health a few times.
Hmmm have you checked this with IV's as well?
I haven't evolved or powered up any pokemon AT ALL and so far I've reached level 18 and my highest pokemon is a 728 Jynx XD
I am planning to evolve all my pokemons at once and use a lucky egg. With what I have now, I can get about 70,000 xp for that one time

So for an otherwise-good Pokemon, having a lot of room left on the CP arc is a good thing? What about if the CP is only half-full--is there a limit? I always figured I should power up the one that had the higher CP, all else the same... damn.

Since evolving takes no stardust and me being a lower level. Would I evolve every common pokemon just for the xp?
I would do that for pidgeys and other lower level pokemon but for example evee, I would wait on that one. Most eveeloutions can go past 1K easy so hold on to those.
Also, Mass evolve and use lucky eggs 🥚 to get more XP

Good video. I'll take that into consideration even though I'm level 17. I evolved to Pokemon that I wanted so far but I'll wait till I'm 20 to do it again. I have 16k stardust because I don't power up.

I get more Pokemon and candys I can, then I get like egg and stand under a lure, make a some high Pokemon evolution to get 2x xp and get some pokemons of lure I get 20k xp in 30min, Lv17 to lv18 in 30 mins

Help please as im new to pokemon go... i caught a charmander with cp 331 and only need two more candies to evolve it. Should I evolve it right away or should I power it up and evolve later?

ok this is a story: ok i was just walking down the sreet and then i saw a vapreaon. the circle was red but i couldnt see the cp, i caught the vapreaon. and it has like 600 cp! but heres the big thing: i am only lv 8.
Yeah I caught a sick 9 tales at level 7 with like 400cp which I thought was good compared to all the shitty Pokemon I normally get lol

you should always wait to see if you can get higher cp pokemon but there is no real reason to power up it just wastes candy for your next duplicate pokemon that has a higher cp and pidgeot isn't dosnt have eo in it to be ignored as pidgit.

I'm level 20 and only have 3 above 1000 and none about 1250
everybody has extremely high wp vaporeons but I don't get these God damn eevees... they simply don't spawn. when I was around lvl 10 I was so happy to finally evolve an eevee. now I'm 5 levels higher than that and got only 2 eevees since the evolution.

But should i ever power something up before i evolve it? For instance I have a 292 pidgey, should I power it up then evolve? or just evolve straight away?
I usually just wait until I get a really powerful un-evolved Pokemon, then evolve them. It gives a decent CP.

495 is great cp for a bulbasaur.
+Bleach tbh I think you should wait until you get more Bulbasaur Candy and then you can power it up a little more. Then you can evolve it. When you evolve your Bulbasaur into Ivysaur it will upgrade its CP 2.22x. This is only around what it's CP will become when evolved so if your lucky it will be more CP and if your not than the latter. When you evolve your Ivysaur into Venusaur it will upgrade its CP around 1.91x. Just to remind you this is only around what it will be so don't expect too much. Hope this helps! 😊

I'm 22 and have found 599 eevee in the wild is my max. I live in a weird area tho, supposedly eevee's are common but they are very rare in my area so you might have better luck.
