I am a 7 Star Mantis teacher. Just want to point out that mantis can be really offensive in its strategy. A praying mantis in nature always attack first to capture its prey. It is seldom defensive. Both arts are equally aggressive when fighting and seldom defensive in their strategy. I thought you still did a good job in showing the tactical difference between both arts with the understanding that one art is close range and mantis is more long range. Mantis in my opinion is more versatile because it can fight out of all 3 ranges equally as well.

There are many mantis styles. Not all are based on monkey footwork. Not all are defensive. Some are VERY aggressive!

Yes. First of all there is a huge difference between northern and southern mantis styles.
Southern mantis styles share lots of similarities with WC, for what I've seen.

@@baptistegaussen4784 very true! And there are several styles named simply "Southern Praying Mantis" and they differ from each other. The style I was learning from my late sifu was based on the footwork of the Northern Black Tiger (Fu Jow Pai) system, though his system was Southern Praying Mantis. It used long range tactics to close the gap then finished up with close range techniques. It also utilized its own version of sticky hands.
      Thank you for you response!

I would be interesting to see wing chun mixed with boxing peekaboo style since u described it as an aggressive style :)
