    As I was getting ready to close on a condo a few months ago, my realtor told me to not wire my down payment until I was at the bank and on the phone with the title company so that we were all checking every account number, business accounts and every other verification they could think of. All because the day before my realtor had a client receive a call that it was time to wire his down payment. A day early. Of course, it never arrived at the title company. He was out almost $50,000, and no new house. So glad I was saved!

    This one is hard to believe. I used to work for a company that sold keys. We had our keys made in China and we had a deal where we sent 50% when we placed the order and 50% when our keys arrived. Part of my job was to go to the bank and wire the money. Unless I got a teller who knew how our company worked I had to answer a bunch of questions and fill out some extra forms in order to send $10k or $15k out of the country. It raised a lot of flags. Maybe our bank was just extra cautious or something. I cant imagine a bank letting you wire $200k to Nigeria without asking a lot of questions.

      Nigerians can setup offshore bank accounts easily, to countries that even us companies regularly use to hide or send their money. Those countries you can send money to. They setup those bank accounts offshore with either real Nigerian passport ID or a forged ID. Then wire the money from there to Nigeria. Sometimes the bank is in on it and gets a cut

    Hey! i've watched few videos on your channel and i've enjoyed every one of them so far! i think its great that your raising awareness about scams and its awesome to see you helping people in less fortunate countries. however, looking at your youtube home page and scrolling though your videos i haven't seen a video about how to spot a scam or how to avoid scams or anything like that. you very well might already have a video like that but its not very easy to find. lol it might be an idea for a video. i just hope you can continue to help inform and educate people. oh, and another possibly useless idea. i did a quick google search and didn't find a profile on Facebook that belongs to you. not to stereotype Facebook users but they might be the demographic that might be more likely to fall for scams. also, having a presents on Facebook might help bring more traffic to your youtube. hope you find this useful. :^)

    A similar scam happened to my wife. She has a trading company and had ordered products from a company in the UK. A scammer intercepted the email from the seller and changed the account number in the invoice.

    Imagine transferring that amount of money without calling the estate agent to confirm. I know they had built up a relationship prior to this and the scammer came in when they had just bitten the hook but still they should call him to confirm the amount and tell him they will be making the transfer at their bank shortly.

      English is not my first language, but if I understood correctly, the scammers sent out the invoice, bill or whatever it is called right after the real estate agent did, so as the real estate agent is not aware that the e-mail has been changed, he still thinks everything is ok.
      As the only thing changed on the invoice is the number (can't remember the correct name of it), confirming the amount and saying that you are going to the bank wouldn't help. I really hope I made any sense. :D

    • @nattybynature1262
      @nattybynature1262 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PatricijasKristine00 no, no. The agent doesn't even realize the client is ready to close because the scammers delete it from the agent's mailbox. He/she's not aware of any transaction at all. So, letting them know before paying will raise the alarm.

So I lost all my passwords because i used a password generator for every single account and then saved them in the dash lane app. I also used a generator for the dash lane account so when they locked me out, I lost all my passwords and several accounts couldn't be recovered. This was at least 3 years ago and it's still causing me headaches.

    Sometimes I’m proud of my country not because it’s the capital of scam but because a lot of geniuses, talents are there, if only we could put this talents into something legal. I can say Nigeria is blessed with a lot of rich talents but there isn’t a system to nurture and groom them. I’m a proud Nigeria plus yes a scam at that but one thing is we are not always proud of it but the system is messed up. The type of scam in this episode takes time and a lot of investment. A con can monitor email conversation between agents and clients for weeks or even month until it’s that time when the client is about to make payment that’s why the con interrupt. I tell you what it’s take time but the pay is 100 times better than that of a romance scam. Some call this type of scam Alibaba.
    I have been following your content for a while now. You are doing a great job green. Truth is Nigeria has a corrupt system.

    This is why I don't do wires. Last year out of 5 closings I got 3 fraud calls saying I had shorted the Title company by $8,000. I told the people on the phone, "Good luck collecting it, I just scammed you out of $8,000!" and blocked the number. Also you only exchange the money at the closing table. One time I was at a closing and had to come up with an additional $1,800 because the property taxes came out the previous day. I guess I have been in the Real Estate game long enough to know the procedures.
