I became a HUGE fan of Jon Dee from a distance. I finally met him in NOLA after a few years of figuring out how to play every song in his catalog. We had a nice talk after that gig at the Ogden. He never forgot me from that day forward and always calls me out by name when I visit Austin. He's a musical treasure and HE has a heart as big as Texas. I love the big bear.
From 79’ through 89’ I saw a lot of great music in Austin and Houston. My girlfriend at the time was Friends with ZZ and I got to meet John Lee Hooker through the connection. We ate fried chicken with him back stage at Antone’s…great times. I also had the chance to play Armadillo World HQ back then.

The second concert I ever saw was Muddy Waters opening for Sha Na Na at Purdue University in Mackey Arena. Talk about a strange combination. He was freaking awesome in spite of Mackey being a horrible concert venue. I had never heard of Muddy Waters at the time. This was long before the internet, but I somehow found out that he was a blues legend. I saw him again in 1979 opening for Eric Clapton in Indianapolis at Market Square Arena. That pairing made perfect sense.
I moved to Austin in 1974 and it was wonderful, saw Paul Ray and The Cobras with Stevie and Denny Freeman open for Muddy Waters at the original Antone's and Stevie and The Triple Threat Revue play The Rome Inn on Sunday nights , Austin was beautiful, you could eat in the beer garden at The Armadillo World Headquarters for lunch or Casita Jorge , if you liked country Alvin Crow was always playing and the town was small 250,000 people, man it was just a great place
Otis. Had never heard of John Dee until now. Then I read an article by chuck reece in the Bitter Southerner about his friend John and now I’m a fan. Then I listened to my first song, $100 Bill. I’m 65 and like John I’m holding out for miracles. Otis. You are one of those miracles. Keep on keeping it real!
At the end, when he said, 'this world is all about getting over fear.', That really clicked for me. You know when somebody says something and it helps you alot. Somebody else might say the same thing and mean nothing for me, but when he said that, it really helped me

Cool - Cool. A.R.C. = Austin Rehearsal Complex for those not familiar. I miss South Austin. I mean you're in it there. The greatest show I have ever seen was at the Continental on South Congress; Ronny Dawson about 1994 (?) mind blown.
