    Thanks! Great lesson on how to get a lot of mileage out of a couple of simple licks. And since they are scale-based I can just transpose and use them in any key.

    Im mostly a metal guy but am into all kinds; cannibal corpse, depche mode, to Robert Johnson. I have dean, an Ibanez knock off and an Oscar Schmidt. I got a nice Savannah mandolin today, and your videos were the first I looked at for mandolin vids. Never imagined myself owning a mandolin. I really do like it! I'm very happy I didn't pass up the opportunity to own a mandolin.

    Thank you for this. I just bought a mandolin just because I felt like it. I'm a piano and guitar player and I want to learn the mandolin and banjo also. You seem like the go-to guy! I'll be paying attention to you. Rock on!

      Hey Ben, I have a very good sounding Gibson open-backed tenor jr from the 20's. I love that thing. It's light, has one Gibson tension rod, 20 frets, and a "snakehead" headstock, which is cool. The tenor allows me to play movable chords I practice on mando, just a bit differently. The tenor stuff is lacking on TH-cam, there are just a few teachers. I recently found an old Elton mute for the Grover no-tip bridge, and it's like having both in one, a tenor guitar and a (less intense) trad. banjo.

    • @MFerg-xq7vs
      @MFerg-xq7vs 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Desiree Yanes Most people agree that alternate picking is the best way around a mando. It's just a good technique to be able to pick a series of single notes faster.

    I have gotten so much out of this lesson, the only thing that bothers me is when you say “now play a solo son” and then later “now son you can go to Nashville” I know it’s just a traditional ad lib but it doesn’t feel very inclusive to your audience who aren’t male.

    • @maximiliancostello288
      @maximiliancostello288 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is possible the dumbest comment I have ever read. Get over yourself. It is just an ad-lib.

      Some people just can't wait to get offended. They're waiting, searching, digging to find anything that can possibly be offencive to somebody, anybody. They're called sjw's. Nobody likes them.
