    Great video and channel Fred. Beautiful work. I subscribe and will come around more often. I found you, because this guy “dark matter“ (good older fellow) did put you in shout out video and you stood out of the crowd :) He also had a lot of trouble to pronounce our slavic names lol (he did put me in that video too) Have a nice day

    What was left out of this video is the carving's prep BEFORE the stain was applied. If you attempt this technique on bare wood the stain will immediately soak into the wood and will not allow to be wiped off or even sanded out easily. It should have been noted in the captions that the carving requires prep that was shown in a separate video. If you attempt this on bare wood you are going to have a mess on your hands.

      Hi Otto, thank you for pointing this out. It is specified right at the beginning of this video that viewers HAVE TO first watch Fred's other video about preparation before staining. There is a link to that video but the link might not be working on mobile phones because TH-cam disabled some functions in videos in May -I have just found out about it thanks to your comment. There are other links throughout but might not work as well. I added couple more links at the beginning of the video and hope they work. If they don't, please let me know and I will try to figure it out. Thanks, Hana Zavadil

      I see that now. The link to the other video was just a blank box and it wasn't immediately apparent.. Thanks for the response. Excellent work.

    Do you use a toluene type thinner or a mineral spirits thinner? I am guessing because it is oil, it is mineral spirits but I thought I should ask.

    Thank you for sharing. Could you tell do you put clear coat varnish at the end and how long you must wait for oil paints to dry before you put it? Beautiful work! Regards fm Montenegro

    • @fredzavadilwoodcarving
      @fredzavadilwoodcarving  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fred say thank you. He does not put any varnish on the carving at the end because he does not like the glossy look. He says that if you would like to put some on, it is up to you.
      Oil paints take long time to dry, individual colors need different times - for example, red takes about 2 weeks. Hana Zavadil

      Fred Zavadil Woodcarving and Sculpting Thank you both. But, how he protects his carving from dust attaching to the oil paint?

    • @fredzavadilwoodcarving
      @fredzavadilwoodcarving  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are welcome. Fred says that he does not use anything else on the carvings - the surface is smooth and not tacky after he applies the stain - and wipes most of it off. Dust has nothing to attach to after the stain is dry.

    When you do a video Speak Please. Or have captions.

    • @fredzavadilwoodcarving
      @fredzavadilwoodcarving  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I am not a professional - this video took me about 35 hours to record and edit. It provides complete information about how Fred finishes his carvings and what he uses. If you find the already included captions insufficient and miss voice comments, please watch and use other videos on the Internet - I am sure there are a lot of them with everything you expect and like. Besides, I am not sure how it would help you if Fred spoke in Czech language. Hana Zavadil
