- Forget about spending thousands on a purpose-built e-mtb. Forget about compromising on the bike just to electrify.
Get the e-bike you want by using the bike you already have! Maybe.
Let's do a conversion with a Tongsheng motor and a bike I already own. Fun!
48v and 500w of mountain biking trail power!
Not everything went smoothly, but when does it ever?

You got a really good style to your videos, I really liked them.
@@theshedMTB thanks, appreciate it!
It’s a lot better than spending 7k on an e-bike for those who are not sure if they want to commit to one. Thanks for the info.
@@johng9033 yeah it's a good way to test the waters before fully committing. I probably should have done it sooner.
It’s funny because in the past, I always said I would never get an E bike but just this year last month I bought a new polygon TE - N. And just like you’re saying toward the end, you’re still peddling I’m still getting a workout cause I don’t really run it on any high levels. It’s funny though because your bikes about 45 pounds my new polygon E bike is 53 pounds! But that bike just does everything right.
@@theshedMTB nice, congrats! What it does is even out the ride, no crazy highs anymore - just steady riding.
Way to go buddy!
I recently purchased kirbEbike's 52v 2000watt hub motor kit. Just waiting for the battery now.
My carbon fiber YT cor 1 EMTB was $3.2k. Best money i ever spent.
@@rondavis3232 nice ride!
I did a Tongsheng conversion on a hard tail and found out quickly that the extra unsuspended weight ruins an otherwise good bike - now a greenway bike.
Also, I did 52v and used the open source firmware: Full video of the experiment here: th-cam.com/video/vBeK3coLCdE/w-d-xo.html
I may be doing a ToSeven in 2025 but on a road tandem and use a dual battery setup.
@@MTBPerspective I could only get a 48v shipped to me in NY because of restrictions on li-on batteries 😐
@@VisionMTB I doubt much difference between the 48/52
With the open source software I've got the motors limited to 380 watts on both conversions - lower than advertised output with standard software.
Plenty of assist on hilly backroads and no overheating even on hot midwest summer days.
