I was in Salinas last Friday. Took a load of produce to Hutchinson Kansas. Pulled my last load with Western Distributing out of Guymon to Denver today. Done with trucking for a while. Burned out. When you go by mm100 near Silt, Colorado wave as you go by !

Folks who wear their masks outdoors is not allways related to Covid. Some people have allergies or just sensitive to the air quality index. I wear my mask outdoors because to show support and respect to my fellow man that I can follow direction to protect myself and others from Covid and because I live in the Sacramento valley and the air quality is very poor as a result to all of the wild fires.
Truck driving isn’t rocket science been driving 20 years hauling heavy equipment (rgn trailers) started with vans though no big deal after a while it is just like a car.
Sad, when I saw Salinas to Pittsburg title I was hoping to see the painted barn north of Salinas but you started after the barn. Oh well, it probably hasn't been kept up anyway. That was forty years ago I used to run 101 and 99. Our yard was in Vineburg and we ran the eleven western states. Local drivers mainly ran the bay area but a lot of what came west went to LA and then we ran LTL to the yard. That little turn out between off and on ramps for San Juan Bautista was my spot to stop and update/rewrite my log book before hitting the bay area. Didn't look like much improvement to 101 since my days. SR 4 was two lanes in my day - looks great now. Keep the hammer down and thanks for the memories, be careful.
The barn is still there, they have kept it up. It still looks really nice. About 10 years ago they put up a retaining wall and made an overpass to stop all the fatalities from people trying to cross there
@@davidcherry8683 thank you, I hope to get out to California one more time or two and some of the old routes. I have never run I-70 across Colorado always ran US-50. Riding Shotgun shows a lot of improvement in lots of areas but US-101 and US-99 looks the same in most places including the potholes. Maybe my motorhome can dodge most of the bad stuff and fill in the gaps in the good memories. CA-41 and CA-46 appear to have really changed and Paso Robles has grown. Used to be a dirt truck stop/cafe just north of Paso Robles that had real biscuits and sausage gravy 24 hours a day. Thanks again for letting me know that barn is still there and probably in better shape than me.
@@davidcherry8683 now that I think about that intersection if you turned west there and went about five miles you came to a Y in the road and in the middle of the Y was an artichoke cafe that made all kinds of artichoke dishes that were really good. Yes, good memories to make the potholes worth riding through. Thanks again for the information, now maybe MMM can film that for us shotgunners.

I don't know if its still there but I think you're talking about a little restaurant on the right hand side in a tiny town called Castroville
@@davidcherry8683 my memory put it in artichoke fields not in town and before we got to the Gerber ( if I remember right ) juice plant but your memory is probably much fresher. Company local drivers hauled tanks of apple and pear juice in there and we picked up the finished product and hauled to warehouses in Arizona, Nebraska, Colorado and Texas. I am talking forty plus years ago; so, I wouldn't try to take my memories to the bank. The last time I was out there I missed more turn offs than I made and didn't try LA or SF. Found several of the places in AZ and TX but not many.

I blind backed into a few spots off of Erie avenue and Hunting Park Ave in Philly, tight and non stop traffic and Septa buses coming at me every which way, crazy, ignorant impatient 4 wheelers coming into my blind spot, with NO spotters at all, never hit anything, very stressful , City driving LTL sucks, did it for many years, it is crazy..but, you have to it all by yourself, no help at all, insane life! Trucking ain’t easy!! I hear ya!!

I really thought every CHP unit was here in Lake County for their REQ. OT 🔥....i always hear Caltrans blame the Trucks for the Hwy pits, and potholes...never The truckers, just their rigs.
My son-in-law and about 4 other guys have a small trucking company I think 8 trucks on the road and they don't go into California because of all the rules price of fuel etc [out of North Carolina]

Glad to see you are back. In 2017 i rode from va beach va to California and back. I rode on the 101 and also rode down the pch was a beautiful ride.
