Hey Theo. I just started this episode and yes it makes sense that you get addicted to your feelings or wanting to not wanting to feel ok. I get like that as well. Im not sure if you act on those feelings but I do and have sabotaged myself so many times. Not even wanting others pity or help or even conversation. Just wanting to feel sad. I kind of like the feeling until it becomes unbearable.

I totally get the feeling with gambling your emotions. Looking back I think I was just afraid to know my emotions. There was a point in my life that I thought my emotions would ruin me. Turns out I was ruining myself by wasting time trying not to feel. It feels so much lighter now that I'm not in a war with myself. This is great to hear! Also, don’t listen to these fools who will say “don’t open up & be vulnerable with your girlfriend/wife”, if you feel you can’t be vulnerable with the person you’re with or they’ve done things like hold stuff like that against you then you shouldn’t be with them. You shouldn’t be with anyone you feel like you can’t be vulnerable & open & honest with. It’s so crazy seeing guys say that & I’ve seen it a lot online here lately & it’s absolutely ridiculous. If you can’t be vulnerable with the person you’re with & especially the person you’ve made a commitment to to marry them & be with them for life, you for SURE should be able to be vulnerable with that person. Males should be able to be vulnerable with each other for sure & cultivating relationships where you can be open & honest with each other like that is for sure important & it’s equally important for you to be able to be vulnerable with the person you’ve committed yourself to, male female or anything in between. Very very sad seeing people online tell men not to & framing is as if that’s some type of solid advice when that couldn’t be further from the truth. If anything, sounds to me like guys who say things like that are trying to sabotage mens relationships with women specifically because they feel like they can’t “get” a woman & they’re being bitter. Sounds like you’re emotionally mature enough now to know this though! You’re definitely on the right track it sounds like. Keep on keeping on. ✌🏾

Theo, i gotta say this man, things you say and the way you put them in your own way really is so helpful. For many i assume, but i can only speak for myself. Too often i don’t know what’s going on inside myself and it’s hard to find good help because it’s difficult for me to put into words or even pinpoint what it is that is wrong with me. Sometimes i don’t even understand what’s wrong with me, i just feel there is something wrong. But brother you hit the right phrases and it leaves me going “damn man that’s exactly what is goin on inside my head too”. Much love to ya brother and thanks for always being open.

I have noticed in my own addiction that it can be very comforting to make bad choices because then you get to have the problems you choose yourself. Making good choices will eventually lead to novel and unfamiliar problems. So as much as I want to get out of my addiction cycles I'm kind of comfortable knowing if I stay I'll always be familiar with the problems it causes me

It really is crazy that as humans we always have some sort of problem or stress going on. So even in moments of feeling happy and content, or just having nothing to worry about for the time being, there’s a weird uneasy feeling that there’s something we’re supposed to be worried about or stressed about. I struggle with that as a college student

Is it me or is this specific podcast the greatest thing I’ve heard of all time.
I get Theo saying he feels good and is doing okay but almost wants something to be wrong. It's a fear of doing well and making so many positive moves in life that if something bad pops up, it feels like you just fell so far you'll never get back and what was all that hard work for when years of work can get erased in a flash. I'm stuck in the same place. I've worked so damn hard to fix my life and future, I got so far ahead and circumstances brought me halfway back to where I used to be, it hurt so god damn bad. It hurt more than when I was struggling years ago and just couldn't get out of my own way. Now I'm just hanging out in that same place, I think, out of fear I'll completely bust my ass being my best again just to get knocked down a few notches.
I do that sometimes I call it Ricky Bobby daddy syndrome. Just face it jump and grow wings on the way down!
Pretty sure Theo didn't grow up poor-poor, but definitely poor-adjacent (if I recall correctly, got fuzzy brain now for some years)..
The more poverty you're surrounded by, the more "wrong" you see, unfiltered poverty.. More "visible" disabled folks (without the things they need to live with dignity), people hungry and desperate, people homeless, damage goes unrepaired longer, worse healthcare and opportunities, all of it piles up, and can give a person a (very, very real) sense of hopelessness, after seeing enough people get crushed so some corporation can save a few bucks, or due to cut regulations, or whatever.. I've seen too much, and I'm always expecting the worst (and "worst" hangs out, around here in rural-ish Arkansas, Louisiana's hat). People afraid of the lights going out, afraid of dying unable to afford burial, people walking miles for groceries because "public transit" is non-existent.. Kids out here starting their lives in tents, while Arkansas has an almost-billion-dollar "surplus" fund, as they pretend they can't give air conditioners to the elderly.. pretend they can't even give 'em *box fans*..
I'm creeping on 40 (disabled myself) and all I want in the world is a storm shelter, and to fill a few potholes in the driveway, but that's been unattainable for a long while now (starting with my father dying in a tornado in 2011, but we've been poor since we were born, in a long chain). Also, EVERY TIME I've ever received a small amount of financial "breathing room", it always came with an ugly sense of unease, or dread, or something, that I'm gonna bite off more than I can chew somehow.
Anyway, as a disabled person I receive $900/month, and $350 goes to land payment.. and one month per year I owe property tax of $400 on top of the $350, and I "live on" almost nothing that month. I used to receive $780/month, before the pandemic started, but had the same land payment and property tax.

Hello there I just wanna say real quick My husband and two of my sons and my son in law and father in law and countless other men women and families work for “The Railroad”. I just wanna say that these amazing men walk every single train on foot to inspect and to fix those monster beasts by hand and do a damn good job at a very dangerous job every single day.
I have never heard anyone in any public forum say thank you to the railroad workers who work 24/7 365 days a year who worked through Covid with not one single sick day. But I’m saying it today Thank You to all of the “Railroad workers” everywhere. Railroad workers deserve sick days!!!!!

I think Theo sometimes could be so much more in society . Some of the things he says, especially at the start, has so much weight to them. The comedic undertone can sometimes take away from how brilliant is what he says. The start bit about being addicted to his emotions is a real thing we need to overcome.
you must realise that the only reason he is able to go to those depths is by using the comedy and his podcast as a vehicle by which to express these things. Strip them away, put him on a motivational speaker stage with millions of paying people, and his link to the source of light will be cut off. We must cherish and appreciate not just the wisdom that is spoken, but also the way in which it is delivered. In all it's glory, faults, and sincerity.

Theo, I used to think that I didnt deserve to have happiness either. Once I realized that God wouldnt put me here just to suffer and that he would want me to be happy and succeed, my whole life changed. Embrace the love brother. Im sure God wont mind. :D
There’s a part of me that feels like if you’re okay than I’m okay too. We’re family Theo. I care about you bruh, gang. Everything is gonna be okay, and boy does it feel kinda new and good
I know Theo is joking with his advise - but for the kid calling in about the autistic kid assaulting him, here’s some real advice from someone with an autistic son and sister, and I used to work in the autism field as well. Those kids 100% know what they are doing. They aren’t in heat. Unfortunately your leaders have failed you if you have brought this to their attention. You need to approach the BCBA, or a principal, or someone in charge of your position and tell them you are uncomfortable working in this position if a plan of action isnt taken. Tell them this is sexual harassment and you are uncomfortable (make sure these concerns are in writing, like an email so there is proof you have told them your concerns.) Their HR department has to take care of it, and a BCBA will most likely write out a behavior plan to help keep the kid from assaulting you.
If they don’t create a plan of action or give you a way out of the situation to keep yourself safe, you can then file a lawsuit against the leaders for failing to provide a safe work environment for you. This is why having your concerns in writing is important. There is no reason why this child should be around any other children or adults with his genitals out. A good course of direction would be for staff to lead him to a bathroom stall, or into a sensory room where he can be redirected. His parents need to be contacted and asked what measures they take at home. They need to be made aware of this in general - and make sure that you tell your leaders that they need to make their parents aware. If the parents are not aware that their child is around others with his genitals out, that opens your development center up for a lawsuit with the parents. I’ve seen a lot of these situations go down.
Remove yourself and the other kids from him, or remove him from them. Redirect his behavior.
TLDR - tell the parents, tell the bosses, create a plan of action, and know that you don’t have to remain present while you’re being harassed. Your concerns are super valid. And his behavior can be corrected.

I’ve been told that I have to many feelings or that I need to find out how to self cope (their probably right) but I never thought about it the way you described being addicted to my feelings. I’ve been a alcoholic and addicted to multiple other substances, which I’ve been able to beat. It makes sense that I would find addiction in the feelings that caused me to lean towards those substances. Thanks brother, I love you Theo!
