    Ostehøvel, a modern cheese slicer or cheese plane, was invented by Thor Bjørklund in 1925 in Norway. Mass production of the ostehøvel started during 1927 in Lillehammer, Norway. The design was based on the carpenter's plane. This style of slicer is very common in the Nordic countries, and in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.

      I'd be very impressed if you can make equally good cheese slices with a knife as with a cheese slicer. VERY impressed 😂

    So.. we have 3 cheese slicers in my house alone (One normal, one without the big flat part in front so it doesn't stick as much to softer cheese, and one spare) and everyone I know also has at least one, however we are not Scandinavian. Until a few days ago I didn't even know they were a Norw- ... Swedish invention. But I've never seen anyone turn a block of cheese into a slope like that before, a little wavy, yes, but not a slope like that. I think that would also be considered a punishable offense in the Netherlands though.
    Love the design!

    • @frankadrianart
      @frankadrianart  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I didn't even know they existed outside scandinavia, but I'm not that well traveled yet. That's cool, best way to slice cheese imo :D
      Haha yeah I have stumbled across the slope of sin a few times in real life but it's mainly just a joke😄

    • @spawn101

      @@frankadrianart Well as I said I didn't know they were a thing in Scandinavia until a few day's ago when a Swedish acquaintance of mine told me to guess what this "special" kitchen tool was. My deadpan reaction "hey, a cheese slicer!" wasn't what she'd hoped for. ;)
      What I'm wondering is: how do people in other countries slice their cheese if not with a cheese slicer? Do they buy it all sliced, do they use a knife or is the preferred cheese too soft too shave like this?
      Also the punishable part would mainly consist of your mom giving you an earful about wasting food.
      😉

    Nice Idea, there are just a slight issue with it.
    The worst Swedish sin regarding cheese is Kaffeost.

    This lobster clasp that broke, have you thought what it is made of? Should be Zamac 12, but it's usually not quite, it's a random pot metal, something just vaguely zinc based. It's plated with chrome over top to hide the sin, since the appearance of that metal isn't very nice, the shade and evenness. Sometimes that comes out OK, other times it's a contaminated alloy which just crumbles by itself in a handful years with no force at all, and it's never quite as robust as you expect it to be, unless you got yours from a very serious supplier and it's stainless steel. Most suppliers aren't very truthful nowadays.

    • @frankadrianart
      @frankadrianart  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      wow you know alot about metal :D
      As you say it's probably some cheap quality metal, bought from some random store at amazon so not a super serious supplier.
      But it's not like I needed the metal to be very strong, it was mostly a fun test. The 0.01 mm ABS resin is however extremely strong, still havn't been able break it. You could make some seriously hard parts with that. 😯

      I prefer to slice it myself, but if you got a crappy slicer it's gonna turn into a slope. No matter what cheese you're trying to slice.

    I've seen people make seperate objects in a printer with seperate 3D models. You have to make a small humanoid and glue it to the cheese. If you can't do this it might have something to do with the scaling vs the amount of bits used. Just a hunch, I've never printed before but I've done programming and data analysis, basic stuff.

    • @frankadrianart
      @frankadrianart  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      yea for the penstand I made the human as a seperate object, that worked, but also it's much bigger..
      Programming and data analysis sounds much more than basic 😲

    • @TheAnxiousOwl
      @TheAnxiousOwl 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@frankadrianart Oh man far from it.. there's a lot more to it. You first need to know how data is stored and how to access it which requires you to take programming courses, I took python (my fave) and html for web design (not fun imo kinda boring because simple)
      You then need to take courses that branch off from it which I haven't even reached yet. Since I've scrounged up enough pell grant I can do about 9 whole classes for my degree. This is literally just the beginning, a year's worth of an average amount of classes. I take long breaks to refresh my brain which honestly I feel is lazy but it still helps

    • @frankadrianart
      @frankadrianart  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think you missread, I said it sounds much MORE than basic, and you just confirmed it 😃
      I've done a few python scripts when doing parametrical modeling in CAD software but I find it really hard, it doesn't come natural for me.. but I do think it's one of the best skills to have today.
      I hope you get your degree, then the world is your oyster 🤗
