Do you know what kind of jewellery do Indians request jewellers to customize the most?
I was recently speaking with an old jeweller known to our family for years...
He mentioned they get a lot of requests for customized jewellery and they make it on order...
I was curious to know what kind of designs do people come to him requesting...
He said almost half of all requests are to make them a gold bangle like the Cartier bracelet... with the Cartier design all over it.
His customers are folks from the best spots in Gurgaon and South Delhi to from the not well to do sub-urbs in NCR as well.
Half of them don’t even know the original is from a brand called Cartier but they recognize the design and show them pictures to replicate.
And for those who know... the logic of the parents is simple... a Cartier bracelet is 32 gms and made in 18 carat gold... which costs about Rs 7 lakhs today.
If the same bangle can be made in 22 carat gold for a little over Rs 2 lakhs...
It’s not just a bargain, it’s more gold too!
Look at how India is changing... there is so much aspiration coupled with value.
India is a land not of the price conscious, but the “aspirational value conscious”.
