Working the drills in front of a mirror would be huge, and mainly focusing on how each body part FEELS while you do the movements is important. Make some connections in terms of "where is my hand in accordance with my chest?", or ask "should my bottom hand stop at chest height?", or stuff along those lines. Then start to work the timing after you find a good zone to cock the hands. I love this type of content!
Dansby, I used to work with your sister at GSU. I played D-1 ball and she told me she had a 15 year old brother playing at East Cobb...he turned out to be pretty good LOL
Cool video. I am honored to give my two cents. Around the 10 minute mark you mentioned wanting stability and/or energy in your back foot. How long do you want to hold that stability because I noticed alot that your right foot comes up off the ground early before the ball is hit. Does this not lead to a lack of power or it puts the body in an awkward position to swing. Oh, my experience? I am a 50 year cub fan and two years season ticket holder. LOL See you around .335 this year.
Good question. You'd be surprised but this is actually a sign of using your lower body efficiently. If you go and watch slow mos of some of the best power hitters, you'd notice they do this as well. Obviously some don't. Bryce Harper does it tremendously
Pete Rose said it best. “Your swing got you to the big leagues, so why change it?” Make small adjustment. Pete said there were 6 things to do. Move up in the box, move back in the box. Move closer to the plate, move further from the plate. Choke up on the bat, choke down on the bat. Make 6 small positional adjustments but keep your swing.
Just my opinion but it’s too much thinking. Swanson, you can hit great. Keep it simple; load early, create some separation, stay closed by thinking right center. That’s it IMO
Hopefully he learns to hit again in 2025. The contract is turning out to be pure misery for cubs fans. Defensive shortstops are in abundance. You can find them everywhere.
Brother in Christ, you’re over analyzing it. Don’t get fooled with the technology, the best hitters of all time never used this stuff. Griffey, bonds, Ruth etc. take the picture and hit. I get it you’re a big leaguer. Doesn’t mean the swing changes. How did u get to the league, with ur swing that u already have!
@ exactly, I just watched the video. I have no idea what he said about what to do or change about swing. Bunch of mumbo jumbo. This is what swing gurus do, filibuster their way into a living.
I’m going to push back on you a bit. There’s nothing “new school” of what they are talking about. The core principles of the swing that Dansby is talking is to answer questions like 1) how can my whole body be in sync to put myself in the best, most powerful position to hit? 2) how can I sync up my body to be on time for the pitch? 3) what synchronization style am I most comfortable with that has worked for me in the past and how can I make it repeatable? Timing and optimization. Every great hitter goes through this deconstructive phase. If he never made adjustments to his swing, he would not be the player he is today. Cal Ripken would change his stance/load/stride all the time. As I’ve heard before in sports, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. The worst thing a baseball hitter can do is practice poor mechanics and talks like this eliminate chances of that.
Your moves in 2022! Very good balancing moves! Repeatable.
I love this stuff, my FAVORITE shortstop!!

Been waiting for a video like this!
Love it. Need to some video of the cage work that goes on right after these discussions, that would be awesome.
Wish you and the cubs good year next year, go cubbies!

Drill your bat as a way to kick stand
We believe in you. Get back to your basics. Come back in 2025

Information overload will lead to a bad cubs contract, don’t think and hit the damn ball

I agree, all of this over analyzing could just create mental confusion

Are you a Major League Baseball player
@@petermcjigglepants5012 good point, but Swanson doesn’t know what makes his swing so good. So he goes to the gurus.
