Sounds like you have a nice and considerate neighbor considering how they share their music with you and the neighborhood.
Lol as they say The shoe makers kids have no shoes! I just installed a mini split and will use my old system as a backup. Big difference when heating on the mini split vs the heater strips on a 60 amp line! You gonna love the inverter unit!
Don’t forget to do a follow-up video and give us a report on how the Gree system is running.
Those ring neck snakes are really cool. They are one of the few snakes that wont bite you when you pick them up. Very docile.
Ive put in about 10 or 12 of those systems, they are awesome so far,, im unsure about long term reliability but Gree is a good brand Ive installed several of their mini splits as well
If both the indoor AHU and outdoor HP are precharged, whats the max lineset before needing to top up refrigerant?
@@dylanw8823 specs says 30 ft, iirc. So 25-30 ft.
What's the key to making the lineset look good where it enters the unit? That large rectangular knockout seems like it would be difficult to make it look clean.
Curtis, you did a great job - even down to torquing your flares to their proper specs.
If we can just stop Baby Girl from chewing on much-needed fittings, etc... 😏
I would definitely sell the owner a maintenance plan 😁
Don’t know about these, but on Fujitsu you should insulate both lines because the expansion valve is in the outdoor unit. Keep us posted on how it performs
These don’t require that. The “main” metering device is a TXV in the air handler. I will I’ll probably use this for other videos.
love the pupper !!
Good one Curtis, that is a smart looking Gree A/C unit, i hope you have many years of trouble free service from it. Greetings from Australia 👍 🍺
Nice system I need two of systems on my house.who wants to do the installation.I live in southeast Oklahoma.ohh Curtis super great job on your house
Diadophis punctatus, commonly known as the ring-necked snake or ringneck snake, is a harmless species of colubrid snake found throughout much of the United States, central Mexico, and south-eastern Canada. Ring-necked snakes are secretive, nocturnal snakes, so are rarely seen during the day time.
And they are beneficial. These are good for the environment just as king snakes are a welcomed resident at and around my house.
I knew that someone would identify that snake in the comments section! Thank you for that, I was curious as well. That's what you have to love about you tube, there are tons of smart people out there, and this is a great learning platform. Have an awesome day!
In 1976, I installed an a/c unit in my bi-level house in Cheyenne, WY. The condenser was on the ground and I purchased approximately 30 feet of precharged line. The condenser and A-coil were also precharged. The system wasn't highly efficient due to the house wasn't really designed for ac, but my wife wasn't able to have the windows open for ventilation. Keeping the fan 'ON' during the summer did make it work. I don't remember the brand or how much our electric bill was over the six years we were there.
I was born in Cheyenne. Aint much there, but tumbleweeds
Hey, I installed one of these (Mr Cool branded) in my house. Horizontal air handler in crawl just like your setup.
Love the unit and it has gone thru two summers and winters. Never called for aux heat when in pretty cold temps. Really great.
Anyway, I noticed that your coils in the indoor unit have a baffle to keep water from jumping past the pan. Did it come like that? Because mine didn't and the case is wet inside from jumping condensate.
Seeing yours made me think Hmmmm, maybe that's what i need.
Any knowledge on this?
Thanks for posting!
Nice install! We'll see how it lasts to the old Payne Teardrop, for simplicity, hehe. But that's where technology is going these days. Guess I cannot say much either as I replace my simple Heat Pump in 2019 with the ICP/Carrier 5-stage Heat Pump...no issues yet...but yours is simpler as it doesn't require the communicating Thermostat...but I love mine how it maintains temps, etc...keep us posted!
look like a lot of work. but ya'll got it done before new year. be bless and safe.
Super cool to watch you and love your format. I just installed mine and am happy with the performance but I was worried the compressor was hurt. It vibrates on start up and shutdown and makes much more noise than my little .75 ton LG mini split. However, yours sounds like mine so maybe it’s fine. Happy days I hope!
Very nice, maybe adding a 10 amp breaker on the disconnect for the AHU.thanks for sharing.
Willy wanka would be proud of the plumbing in that unit
Nice job Curtis. Enjoy it
Looking fresh
Nice!
Enjoy
Nice quality install. That setup should cool and heat great at way less cost than the other unit I gotta find me something here even though we’re in the mountains it get about 80 at night in the bed room lol
I like it. I’ve been installing some LG ducted air handlers with LG Red heat pumps. I really like them a lot. Starting to make a lot less sense to install traditional unitary systems.
I agree
Single stage equipment for residential application’s will be a thing of the past. The efficiency ratings will require 2 speed or variable speed to meet higher and higher minimum efficiency rating’s.
Florida is requiring that GFCI breakers on all variable speed systems.
Great video. I am very interested in the Gree 5 ton heat pump unit. You have used your unit for more than five months now. How has the unit been performing? How are the pros and cons you can share? Would you recommend people to use Gree heat pumps? Will appreciate your input.
Ask your distributor about the two-copper line-set flex connectors that makes the outside unit connections much easier to hook up. We purchase one for every Gree install and our installers love them.
Are you talking about the pre-charged line sets? Like the MrCool units also have? It seems like Gree might make MrCool units.
@@bluedogron no it’s just the flare connections to the outside unit to the Valves
Thanks Curtis! I'm just over a year now with a Fujitsu unit at my own home in Sacramento, Ca.. I'm not totally content with the heat mode for our milder winters. I'm using 15kbtu to cool most of the main floor with 6-9k in each bedroom. The 15k doesn't do as well for heat as I would like so we still use natural gas 35k btu wall furnace to heat. Downstairs stays at around 64* and upstairs 68*-71*. Not a very efficiently insulated 1939 2story home. 1000sqft downstairs and 500sqft upstairs. Finally, no more window shakers!!!! Main floor was cooled with a 24kbtu window unit...oh, the noise! :~( No regrets on the fujitsu for my own home other than I would do Mitsubishi ceiling cassettes next time because of the cleaner look but more $$$. Gree going in my sisters condo in Boise if the HOA gives their blessing. Our house in Jcksonville, NC will be getting a Gree, too unless I find a better deal.
that doesn’t sound efficient at all. your heat pump may be able to deliver the heat you need. try just turning it up until you feel comfortable. it may be at a temp your not used to. it’s worth a try.
Fancy little unit you got there.
Curtis would be nice to see the temperature split good job on the install
Can we get an update on this gree flexx? Thanks!
Always on the look out for the latest and greatest HVAC System. Can you explain why you chose this system for YOUR home replacement? Advantages?
Ease of installation, ability to produce high heat at low temps meaning I don’t need heat strips, it actually stops the blower when it goes through defrost, price, and size of company
The Gree looks identical to the Mr Cool, must come from the same factory. They work great for way less than most brands.
All are manufactured by Midea in China. Along with many many other brands. Midea is a huge manufacturer. Their stuff has been quality as far as I have experienced… And I’ve installed dozens of various ductless and ducted mini splits from several different brands(all manufactured by Midea). It’s all been high quality thus far. I find that equipment longevity is all about good/correct installation practices.
Nooo, Gree manufactures Mr Cool.
@@alexsierra2724 I stand corrected. Thank you Alex. I was thinking of Alpine Home Air’s Blueridge line…which is Midea.
I have a Tosot made by Gree. 5 ton
It's identical to the Mr cool universal I just checked my 3 ton condenser and unwrapped temporarily my compressor blanket before wrapping it back up and the compressor says gree on the front.
Of the compressor.
If you take apart the covers on the condenser it is exactly the same as the gree one I have not yet looked at the circuit bourd yet.
Good job
Nice work .
Nice system enjoy!
Pretty work
Mechanic has the worst running car on the street (first thing that came to mind). You fixed that. Nice unit for sure.
welcome to the typical contractors home, dilapidated, ready to blow over in a breeze, nothing works right! lol
@@throttlebottle5906 Yep, when you do it all day long, you don't want to do it when you get home or your time off.
I just wanted to add, if I lived near him, not only would I use his service, but I would fill my bug sprayer with pure bleach and spray his house down with it, rinse it with the garden hose. Free of charge. Believe me that works as well as a pressure washer. He would freak out on how good it would come out.
@@jthonn exactly what I tell everyone!
Thw only thing I have an issue with is the 40A breaker in the disconnect. Max overcurrent protection on the outside unit is spec'd at 35A. A better solution would be to use a 4-space main lug l;oad center as the disconnect with 2 breakers, 30A for the outside and 15A for the inside.
Nice install, Curtis.
Wouldn't it be best to set the voltage control to the high and low settings of the equipment voltage rating.
in my case it wouldn’t run
Hi I am a big fan of your videos. Can you please make a video on Google nest 4th generation installed with Gree Flexx heat pump
Enjoy your videos...I have a cabin where it snows a bit...there's a heat pump now but the heat strips are on 90% of the time...needless to say it's costing a lot...Will this gree flexx unit work for me?
Looks good Curtis! Just finished up installing a 12k btuh mini split Mitsubishi for my basement/ garage.
When I need to change out my 3ton gas package unit I’ll be looking into inverters.
I think all ac units should be 1 foot off the ground to avoid dust, dirt, leaves and snow. Even if you never see snow. Oh and dog pee will eat a coil right quick
Great video guy would you recomend any wifi thermostat specifically for this unit since I installed one and nest doesn't work please
Can you explain why you hooked up green outside? And no white from thermostat?
If no heat strips are installed, when it goes through defrost the blower actually stops so it won’t blow cold air. So you don’t want white hooked up from Tstat. And there was a spot outside for G. So I Thought why not hook them both up. I can jump system out from outside.
Gree explains it does nothing. It's just they reused the same thermostat wire block on the outside and inside units, that's all.
What watch band is that for the ultra? and can you explain the electric monitor box you used- I have the same unit on my house but found out I need surge protection- what did you use and what about cool guard ?
What’s the actual amp draw of that unit running at 100% load in cooling?….heating?…
I have a Bosch I have wired exactly as you do with both units on one breaker without strips but mine is wired on a 15 amp breaker…in cooling it runs at 6 amps total and heating it runs 11 amps total
What's gree support like
So far, fantastic.
My suction temperature is 48F. Suction pressure is 94PSI. 70 outside. Supply 46.6F. Return 67.6F. Delta T 21F. Unit was low. I added 2.65 lb of 410. But low side would not go to 120psi. Mini split in a full blast. Any ideas? Thank you!
Can we get some temp readings this thing is pushing out at the registers etc? Size of unit? Sorry if I missed it. What size amp did you use? Wondering if a 2-3 ton unit will run mostly in 3 ton mode on 30 amp breaker?
Did I see a small bottle of Line set loc-tite sitting on the ground. I'm wondering if your using the Refrigeration Technology Nylock Blue and how it's performed for you
I use nylog, it is a lifesaver.
curious how that system preforms. Be sure to do electrical and preform update. I have to do my 2 units
My ACIQ Universal systemI didn’t have to run thermostat wiring to the condenser. Just communication wiring
I'm pretty sure a line voltage over/under monitor performs a different function from a surge protector, they compliment each other. Surge protectors act very rapidly, acting mostly on sudden brief voltage spikes and surges related to lighting, usually surge protectors are sacrificial, protecting the load - sacrificing components in the surge protector in the process. These are two separate, different functions, they complement one another.
And the RectomSeal one he used has both.
Looks like a quality piece of hardware at $244.
I really want to replace my upstairs with a universal setup like this. Just not comfortable with getting the line set up there etc
Can you please the part number of stand you used for the condenser?
I just swapped my unit out that looked like that outdoor. Payne 2 ton. Just did an aciq hyper 2 ton. It is QUIET. QUIET you hear that. It may not be a gree but it looks similar in some of the fins, grate and shapes. Get one. Old style ones and their fan and shroud are loud and chopper no matter how you shape it. They have higher static pressure it's trying to chop the air too hard.
Do you have any info on the utility bill since you switched to the inverter system?
Thanks for this! Nice. Any chance of convincing Gree to install the service valves on the outside of the Unit so we don't have to practice making nice 90 degree bends? :-) They do it on their other products.
Yes! 90 bend then a 45 bend... there must be a reason for that design?
Where did you get that voltage monitor kit? Do you have a part number for that whole setup?
Sir who made the rack the new condenser is on?
Not sure. I ordered it from supplyhouse.com
@@HVACGUY Thank You Sir
Curtis you should get in touch with NAVAC and get them to send you a NAVAC NEF6LM Cordless power Flaring tool. You make a lot of videos they will probably send you one for free , They work Great.
If you had the choice or a Gree mini split or a rheem mini split what would you recommend?
Nice install! 8.5 Amps full draw is amazing. I enjoyed the instructional video, thanks 😊
He did not measure it after stabilizing 10 minutes at 100%. You can hear it ramping up after he checked the current.
Curtis did u had to mess with the dip switches I’m thinking of installing one for a customer of mine
hey bud jiust checking about the watch and watch band let me know thanks
Nice. That’s a big unit what is that a 3 ton or 4 ❤🎉🥳💯

@@HVACGUY sweet 👍❤️😎
First time I’ve ever seen a HVAC guy use a torque wrench ever
We use torques all the time in commercial HVACR especially with hydronic based HVACR systems
Is Gree a solid brand? Looks like I've seen them on Amazon or something before
They are actually one of the biggest name brands in the world. They make a ton of mini-split style systems
Would those be the same .60oz per additional ft of line set? How many feet of line does it come pre charge for?
Nice video
Condenser 41 ft. And evap coil adds another 5 ft.
I like your rock foundation and all of the trees. Nice looking furry helper. It don’t get cold enough for heat strips? When I had a heat pump years ago, I always switched to emergency heat at night since more comfortable.
It can produce 95 degree air all the way down to zero degrees
That’s great. Guess good in your climate. We heat with gas, but at night turn the furnace way down. Too cold for me, so I run oil filled electric radiator in the bedroom. Is it cheaper? Who knows. My last electric bill was $185, gas bill $95. Unfortunately, use resistance heat in garage, and shop when I use it. Also, heat garage to 75 as I like it warmer than wife does. I’m considering buying the tools to do a mini split heat pump in the garage. I do not want the Mr Cool crap. That means buying vacuum pump, flaring tools, and gauges. If successful, save a lot. If not, then hire help. Appreciate your videos.
Basically the same unit as a mr cool universal. Except mr cool is cheaper in price. Mr cool has everything gree for the exceptiong of the name tag. Ive had mine for 2 years now up north. Use it all year round.
I just started watching this, did you rotate the condesate pan before going under the house and did you add the electric heat strips?
Thats a ring neck snake they are harmless and dont get much bigger than that . we have them all over here in Oklahoma. 1945 Called and wants their cloth wire back lol. Put Nylog on the back side of flare fittings when you can
That’s original to the house , early 80’s
Ha I'm from the oologah area originally. Came here to make the same ring snake comment. Lol
It was a ring-neck snake, harmless little guys.
Great Video, question, do you think the GREE can handle New England weather without heat strips or better to have ?
I think I’d add heat strips in New England. I think I read it can supply 95 degree air down to zero degrees
I’m told it’s 100% to -20°.
Add defrost and ice and yes, a backup is a good idea.
I’m leaning towards adding covers for ice/snow
Gree/Mrcool did a video about it working in South Dakota. You'll have a lower set point for it at -23F but it will work without electric heat strips. You are better off just supplementing it with space heaters really.
@@sprockkets...ah that's degrees Celsius. Basically like using your toaster below -18F.
forgot to insulate the vapor line first, story of my life man lol.. whats that flaring tool??
I think it’s a Yellow Jacket true 45 degree flaring tool.
Head banger music
My concern with heat pumps without electric resistance heating is that it would lead to a cold house until the heat pump is repaired if there is a condensing unit failure.
These are good down to -30C or -22F
If you experience cold weather, and you own a heat pump, you need a backup source of heat. I own an Hvac company, and I still have a propane backup because if the blower motor fails, or the power is out, you hav no heat, obviously.
How many amps did your old system pull?
What speakers were you using? I could hear that bass🎉
😂 that’s the Milwaukee packout radio/charger. I love it.
@@HVACGUY oh neat! Gotta get me one of those! Also, hello from North Carolina haha
How many tons or BTUs (heating and cooling, if different) is that hardware? Thanks
3 tons
I want one of the Gree Flex or Bosch systems so bad but I'm in a double wide mobile home.
I’ve put the gree flexx in a mobile home. It’s not that hard to modify it into a downflow.
@Anthony Well it's actually upflow, it's a weird set-up. The ductwork needs to replaced if I do anything
You can leave the ah if good and add a txv
i didn't know the m12 rubber boot fits on the newer model impact driver. is it a good fit?
Perfect. Got to order the one that’s made for it.
@@HVACGUY Curtis, where do I find those feet, size or part number? Thanks!
Hey bro I know this is a stupid question but I'm going to ask anyways what kind of watch do you have on I like that in the arm strap you got that's pretty cool can you help me out and give me some information I appreciate it I like to get me one thank you
Hey Curtis I don't think you realize how many people you just helped by posting your video on the gree flex.
And testing it out.
As when I first watched 6 months ago I thought the gree flex looked exactly like my Mr cool universal and so to confirm the condenser is the same I just took off the front cover and unwrapped temporarily the compressor blanket and sure enough the compressor said gree on the front.
But unlike mr cool gree is not marketing it as a, diy unit.
And giving bad install instructions like telling people if you use a conventional line set or braze like you do install a biflow oil filter as I see from your gree you did not need to install one.
But telling people if they use the quick connect so called no vac linesets, just hook it up don't vacaum spray actaul soapy water to test for leaks and release the refrigerent.
But here's the catch they say no need for a biflow with the quick connect linesets.
Ohh and there's more Mr cool says if doing a vacaum don't hook up the high side valve to vac that side out just the low side.
Before releasing the refrigerent. When using the conventional braze style line sets like you do.
Anyway you may have inadvertently just solved a big problem for many people Including other newer hvac techs.
Ohh and is your condenser running on a 30 Amp double pole or 35 Amp or 40.
Mine says max fuse or breaker amperage is 35 amps but the panel I have and box is only rated at 30amps along with the breaker in my main panel.
I hope that is enough for my condenser to run at startup.
Anyway thanks again for posting this install Video as I see pioneer is now marketing one too that seems so eearlily similar to the Mr cool universal series and gree flex wonder if that is a rebadged gree flex too.
How different is the Tosot model from the Gree?
What seer is that system and the tonnage?
Nice unit... But, power wash your siding.
5 minute blower after stat is satisfied is no bueno.
I wonder if that customer got a discount? Lol!
Wonder how repair work is
Will that voltage regulator protect from brown-outs
Yes. Look up RSH-50 VRM KIT
Hey Curtis nice video! So that 3 ton gree is for your whole house or do you have another system around there?
who.e house
They started up my Mitsubishi mini split system, and..it’s silent! Indoor cassettes, outdoor unit, all totally quiet! I’m just..floored!
Hey Curtis, is that a tankless water heater next to your heat pump?
Yes
No in-line dryer?
No
@@chrisf3699 You can, but they don’t want you to heat anything near the unit. It’s not required as long as you have a good vacuum
Does that air handler have a variable speed fan?
No. Not recommend.
Yes, it does.
10 gauge with a 40 amp breaker is that correct? Shouldn’t that be a 30 amp breaker?
It’s actually #6 aluminum going to the disconnect outside
Yes, 30A breaker, especially with 60C Romex running inside conduit.
