Hey friends! As always, thanks for watching! If you enjoyed this video and want to know how to choose the right plants for your tortoise enclosures, watch this video next: th-cam.com/video/AnInZ3Aq8xY/w-d-xo.html Lots of love, Chris 🐢🐍🦎
What a great video! Is there anything cuter than watching baby Radiated tortoises exploring their new home for the first time? At this moment…nope! They’re adorable!🐢🐢❤️
I live in an apartment, and I literally had items in my Home Depot cart ready to build a similar outdoor enclosure for my baby. And then I saw this video. Perfect timing! I can't wait to give him some natural sunshine after a long, rainy winter.
Your videos make me so very happy. It's such a pleasure to learn about such beautiful little creatures that we have right here in New Jersey! The baby tortoises have a lovely home now and you have shown us that anyone can do it. Thank you!!!
I cannot even believe how cute those babies are! And what a wonderful idea to give them a home like this! I never thought about moles going after tortoises so thank you for specifying why a raised garden is perfect. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge and your enthusiasm!❤
Look at all the sweet babies pipping around their sweet new digs! Love the setup and the price wasn't too bad, especially when you consider the markup you typically see for commercially produced reptile enclosures 😅
This comment is to feed the algorithm monster. Turns out it likes munching on comments, replies and likes to both. Why not spread some positive vibes, give it a snack and then watch the channel grow?💗🐢
I’m totally going to modify this idea for a new, better, outdoor enclosure for my red foot! She has an outdoor one, but it’s starting to break down. Definitely doing this!
Hi Chris! Thanks again for a great video! Will definitely build something like this during the summer. Just a quick question. I read that perlite could be bad for tortoise because they could eat it. Is it true? Or it is something we should not worry about? Thanks in advance
This is such a wonderful video for us novices. I want little turtles really bad but I am afraid of not taking care of them that well because I don’t know how to. I just would like to maybe keep one or two that don’t grow big. But thank you so much for the video and teaching us the way to keep them safe. 🖤🐈⬛🖤🙏🏼🖤
Is it still better to raise tortoises outside during the summer if you life in say, Washington state? Will they get the required and necessary vitamin d uvb that's crucial to their growth and development? Or should you use indoor uvb to make sure they get enough?
Is there any concern at all for the fertilizers and potential insecticides that are used on commercial plant productions? While likely not an issue for the "edible" plants, is there any worry about the chemicals often used on the more decorative plants, like the flower bearing plants?
Spider plant and rosemary, both safe and both never eaten😂 My question is where did he find the sand? I live in the greek island border and have a greek and a herrman, both rescued from injury unable to be released back, baby size and totally healthy to me. I wanna improve the outdoor enclosure i just dont know what type of sand that is. Pretty sure it can’t be from a beach right?
Great video! I wish I had seen this when my Sulcata was still a baby. He spent his early years indoors inside a tortoise table. The only outdoor time he got was some supervised roaming as I worried about predators getting him. Now that he's bigger, he has the full fun of our backyard. The thing we're trying to figure out now though is how to house him indoors when it gets cold in the fall/winter. He's pretty much outgrown his table. Have you done any videos about indoor options for larger tortoises?
A lot of the big box store plants are sprenched with Imidacloprid. So in Mo opinion I would plant this enclosure and let it grow in a month or so. Let the chemicals work their way out
Chris... Thank you so much for sharing this DIY setup... We have been wanting to do an outdoor project like this for our RES turtle (for enrichment for an hour or 2 every day). Would all the plants listed, that you shared for the tortoises, be safe for her too?
Love your videos!! Thank you!! Just a question please… I watched your video on keeping new baby tortoises in an enclosure with lots of humidity/aka the plastic storage bin.. so I’m a bit confused because these look just as small as the others? Could you explain pretty please? thought they had to be in a more humid environment.,When small? Thanks in advance. Best regards.😊
I’m doing research for a future eastern hermanns tortoise and i was just wondering if at that size is heavy rain a danger to them? Is the drainage able to keep up in that enclosure? Looking forward to a new tortoise and your channel has been very helpful
There isn’t a blanket answer for your question. It really depends on the species and how quick your tortoise grows. If it’s a smaller species like a hatchling Testudo, you’d get about a year before the tortoise would require more space.
This is wonderful!!! My redfoot is so funny because everytime walks by the kentucky colonel mint he makes like a puckering noise. I hope that just means the scent is to strong. Anything thoughts?
Would you leave this in full sun area? I'm definitely doing this this week for my baby Eastern Herman tortoise.. I live in Antalya, Turkey summers are long and hot here.
I have a camera for my inside enclosure but I want to build one of these. I was thinking about getting one of those metal water things from a tractor store.
I've seen a lot of advice saying that plants from stores may be treated with potentially harmful pesticides. Is this fear overblown or are there precautions we need to take when adding plants to an enclosure?
I just watched the episode on how you received your Mexican box turtles. I was wondering why they couldn't be returned to the wild. Does it have to do with being in captivity to long? Or are there other factors as well? Thanks
I got two turtles and I was wondering how long do you keep the light on them and how much do they eat and when to feed them I got a little glass turtle tank and the turtles and it’s pretty long it’s longer than my arm, my arms pretty short
My box turtles very little water areas in my yard. I would like an idea of how I can make a low water area for the turtles. We have such a serious mosquito problem.
Is there anything special you do to your plants, store bought, to make sure the tortoises aren’t affected by the possible chemicals sprayed or used on them?
I’ve always heard that sand is bad for tortoises because if they eat it they might get impacted. Nice to know that’s not true. But I understand when you said not to feed on it.
Wet does not meen humid as well. When water evaporates its even cool down the little ones, but it cant change the humidity of the infinitely larger airspace, its just spread away with the air movements.

We need a live 24/7 cam of that enclosure 😍
I second that!
Absolutely ❤
For sure
Please

Um I need to see more tortoise time in the new environment please and thank you!

I love having a Garden State Tortoise video to wake up to! Thank you for the constant work your family puts in!

Great setup, hopefully I can do something similar for my box turtle.
That is the prettiest outdoor enclosure, the babies are adorable ❤❤❤❤❤
The tortoises are beautiful
I love ur shirt! I have been looking at using on of these too for my turtle, u just showed me that it works great. Thanks

Again, awesome video! Love the T-shirt Chris.

Omg this is exactly the type of help I needed as the temperatures warmed up. I learn so much from you guys. Thanks a billion.
I love you videos bro and by the way I have a Egyptian tortoise
I was looking for something just like this. Thank you for the awesome videos!!!!!!!
th-cam.com/users/shortshXyAVIpPvts?feature=share
That’s an awesome idea and it’s beautiful as well!
Thats a great enclosure. Those babies headed straight for the water. They are so sweet.
Thanks Garden State fam for this wonderful tutorial video! You’re making it easier and easier to get some turtle babies 😁
Oh my gosh these babies are so damn cute
I use a bigger style for my indoor enclosure works great .I bet they love their home nice! Cool home beautiful babies😊
Wow! I never even thought of a mole being a predator of tortoises or turtles.
Racoons too, which will crawl tight into that enclosure.

This is really helpful and I would like make one at my home for my tortoises.
This is a dream come true!
They're so cute 🥰🥰🥰 So excited for an update after everything grows.
I have 2 babies yellow-footed tortoises..I am definitely using this for their habitat!
This was a great tutorial…and what a beautiful easy care habitat for the babies. Thank you so much for sharing this.🖤🇨🇦

Hi Chris, as alway very informative! This is a great tutorial for people that hasn’t have a big property. Please create more content like this.

What a brilliant idea! Thanks for sharing.
I use that compressed pack too!! It is GREAT!!!
Your videos are always so informative and great. Thank you
Love this, will be doing this for my sub adult horsfield tortoise ❤❤
Fun & inspiring.
This is wonderful and instructional!
Great video. I was wondering about the Perlite in the organic soil. I thought that the little guys would eat that. Is that bad for them?
Loving your vids. Question would they not eat the perlite?
I have a tortoise 🐢 egg 🥚 I’m trying to incubate! I hope it makes it! I’ve given it the best chance possible!
Great video. Thanks. 👏
Would love to see a 1 year update on this raised bed enclosure.

Great Video. 100%

Cool
Still waiting for a video update of your Galapagos Tortoises🤩🤩
Which plants would you recommend for a hermann’s indoor enclusure? Preferably that doesn’t get eaten?

Would this work well for a box turtle too? Are there things that would need to change for a box turtle?
Love this. Do you have to get organic plants?
I love your shirt. How do I get one? I love your videos too :) They make me and my tortoises happy. This video was wonderful as always.
I also want to know how to get that shirt.

How long would the footprint of this last for 1 baby tortoise as a grow out enclosure?
There isn’t a blanket answer for your question. It really depends on the species and how quick your tortoise grows. If it’s a smaller species like a hatchling Testudo, you’d get about a year before the tortoise would require more space.

Ok i absolutely did this exact thing 😅..... I bought tagetes instead of calendulas so i didn't plant that one but literally everything else.
Would love to buy some of the items you recommend for our acquarium, do you sell them. Went to your shop, but found nothing. Jo Love your show.
I've seen a lot of advice saying that plants from stores may be treated with potentially harmful pesticides. Is this fear overblown or are there precautions we need to take when adding plants to an enclosure?
What plants did you end up with? I want to add plants to mine!
Can you make a hatchling pond with that garden? Let’s see it.
question, if i build a enclosure like this, how do i manage the poop, do i just put top soil and cover it? and let it decompose?
Can we get a video listing all the plants you use in your tortoise enclosures?
How bout the humidity level? Do you sprinkle water every morning?
Do you have a list of plants safe for a desert tortoise?
I just watched the episode on how you received your Mexican box turtles. I was wondering why they couldn't be returned to the wild. Does it have to do with being in captivity to long? Or are there other factors as well? Thanks
Could you transition this into an indoor enclosure with an appropriate top to hold in moisture? Maybe a piece of plexiglass over part of it?
How about turtles? I think this would be great for my turtle.
Turtle need bigger water body , tortoise arent grt swimmer
I got two turtles and I was wondering how long do you keep the light on them and how much do they eat and when to feed them I got a little glass turtle tank and the turtles and it’s pretty long it’s longer than my arm, my arms pretty short
Are their any even tinier tortoises or turtles that could stay in one of these... with less critters of course
Can you do a vido for an indoor inclusor? To start with a baby through the 1st year or so?
Would this work for two 1year old redfoot tortoises? They are less than 6 inches long.
No, it would be too small for even 1 tortoise that is 6”.
Do u have to change the soil
Could you also leave this enclosure inside? I have a baby cherryhead tortoise and I’d like to keep him/her inside until I have to move them out.
Size of the container?
How to clean shell of tortoise..can i use shellcare oil on star torts❓❓
Maybe I missed it. What are the measurements
May have been 280, still wayyyy cheaper than buying whats made specific for reptiles
My box turtles very little water areas in my yard. I would like an idea of how I can make a low water area for the turtles. We have such a serious mosquito problem.
Can this work for baby sulcatas or red foots?
i had no idea moles were a problem
I want to make one out of a 8 foot round flower bed i found at Shoppers
Could you do something similar to boxturtles?
what about when it rains? what do the baby torts do?
How much of the organic soil did you use?
Is there anything special you do to your plants, store bought, to make sure the tortoises aren’t affected by the possible chemicals sprayed or used on them?
I’ve always heard that sand is bad for tortoises because if they eat it they might get impacted. Nice to know that’s not true. But I understand when you said not to feed on it.
Would this work inside the house? And could you join two together? I need 6 to 8 feet long for my box turtle
How can this provide enough humidity for smooth shell growth?
Small mist spryer works or just keep a spry bottle handy
Wet does not meen humid as well. When water evaporates its even cool down the little ones, but it cant change the humidity of the infinitely larger airspace, its just spread away with the air movements.
@@martonwieszt6719 well ur statement might be right for ur geo area i am from very hot place to make it humid we just need to spray water
Are you sell it bro ?
I want to keep them too
Do you not have to worry about them spraying pesticides on the plants you bought?
We always rinse them after buying just to be extra safe but in more than 30 years of using these plants not once have we had a single issue.
@@GardenStateTortoise thanks for the information! See mixed opinions on it. Any specific stores to get from? Or any should be fine
What are examples of plants NOT to put into the enclosure?
