Lyrics:
Exhibit F, the reporters said
Loved you to death after the watershed
Between the Open University and closedown
You were dead
He's warmed your cockles with his magic tricks
Glasses, bottles, bottles, filter tips
John Player Special
Number 666
Exhibit G from the family firm
His bride to be taking twisted turns
To give you French kisses
And Chinese burns
You see, she'd had a skinful and she couldn't stop
Like a pitbull in a china shop
And all the King's social workers, the ghurkas and the cops
Somehow
Couldn't love you back to life again now
A black eye for a black eye
A chipped tooth for a chipped tooth
A fraction of a half life
Some housework and some home truths
And nothing but the home truth
Nothing but the home truth
Nothing but the home truth
And it's goodbye Ruby Tuesday
Come home you silly cow
We've baked a cake and your friends are waiting
And David Icke says he'd like to show us how
To love you back to life again now
Goodbye Ruby Tuesday
Come home you silly cow
We've baked a cake and your friends are waiting... waiting... waiting...
AND DAVID ICKE SAYS!
Goodbye Ruby Tuesday
Come home you silly cow
We've baked a cake and your friends are waiting
And David Icke says
Goodbye, you silly cow
Come home
Come home
Come home
Come home
A black eye for a black eye
A chipped tooth for a chipped tooth
A fraction of a half life
Some housework and some home truths
And nothing but the home truth
Nothing but the home truth
Nothing but the home truth

My introduction to Carter was when my friend bought some CD of some band but the wrong CD was in the case. He got the Sheriff Fatman CD single by mistake and the rest is history. Got to see them live through the 90s and flew from Ireland to the final show in Brixton. Amazing
One of my favourites.
Thanks Mick and Keith.
If you hate getting old then give this a blast full blast, fucking magic 🎉.,😂.
❤
I don't mind admitting this song brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it.
Same
@@nettalaor441 ... and same xx
If you are young now, love and cherish these years, because they go in a flash.
one of the most important posts i've ever seen on youtube. so true.
Best internet comment I’ve ever seen
Live for now
first found carter on a tape in woolworths( giving age away) i think they are one of the best ever British bands their lyrics are just unbelievable proper working class stuff so much angst they follow me through life every piece of shit in my life has a carter track thank you to both of you
I quote them all the time - brilliant
Fruitbat will be 65 in 4 days time !!!! Impossible to believe ! Magnificent guitarist. His influence is massive, even if his name is not well known.
I was born in 72 & there was so much going on from about 88 to 96 it was truly magical. The early 90's were really an exceptionally special time in musical history and I feel absolutely blessed to have been part of it all, and I partied like there was no tomorrow :-)
The 90s are renowned for being a terrible era..inc Britpop..the 60s and 80s blinded the nineties by a country mile ..as much I love Carter USM
@@leesanders1407 i ll be honest i much prefered the indy scene than the over pomped synth sound of the 80s. But id take anything over todays shite!
I love discovering New stuff that's old
Every decade, every year, every week has great music - you just have to let it find you :)
Love every track on “Straw donkey” . Classic.
......If you don't have it already....Treat yourself to. Worry Bomb...
Top tune,i was in a children's home when i heard this, took me to join the army and be a man...... thank you Sean Carter xx
I think I joined The Royal Engineers at around the same time. This music has stayed with me ever since. Love it, love IT, 😊
Thanks for your service lads 🇬🇧👍
Yes top
that just brought a tear to my eye... it's Christmas, I'm not going to apologise for myself 🤣
"And David Icke says he's gonna show us how to love you back to life again" Cracks me up man, every time.
Love it.......
One of the songs that helped stop me from completely losing it in my teens.
Yeah, had the same intentions, however nothing was going to stop me from losing the plot, my sanity and most of my long and short term memories of the next 25 years out of my head! The 90s was a proper sketchy time! The kids nowadays have no idea how different it is compared to back then. And the music now, compared to then, is terrible!! Obviously, that's why we're here listening to Carter! 30 years on and Carter are still Numbah One!! Haha. Did you hear any of Jimbobs solo stuff? Dudes got some serious talent man. As a writer, he second to none.
Looooovvveeeee this song. My fave Carter song 🎶🤘👊😍
Been listening to this song since I was about 14 after finding a 12” single at a car boot for 50p. Im 28 this year and still love it.
Absolutely awesome.
still love it
Awesome memory from my 90's bell bottomed youth! I miss you all & everyday!
The editing in this is great, to be fair it's a great music video
Saw them four times on stage. Memories forever.
‘THAT’ rugby tackle looks like the work of Nostradamus now 😂
Modern legend
part of history
Ace video song

never heard this before but i think its good
love it
League of their own 👍
I like the bit at 30 seconds where they're playing a silent guitar
very clever intelligent lyrics
Did the Rolling Stones try to sue Carter for the Ruby Tuesday lyric? But like they shafted the Verve for Bitter Sweet Symphony . . . .
Here you go...
The band’s single “After The Watershed (Early Learning The Hard Way),” a song about child abuse, was pulled off the airwaves after the Rolling Stones slapped an injunction on the tune for using lyrics from the Stone’s song, “Goodbye Ruby Tuesday.” Later, Carter USM reached a settlement with the Stones and now credit the song to Morrison, Carter, Jagger, Richards, and Bet Lynch.

ya gotta love a bit os USM. still got an original copy of 101 damnations.
Me too mate, I've got the 101 Damnations cassette somewhere, I have no idea if it still works because I don't have a tape deck anymore 😆
I've also still got the cd single of After The Watershed which still works fine and has a decent version of The Inspiral Carpets' This Is How It Feels on it 👍
Still got 30 something and 101 damnations on old cassette tape. Played to death. Makes Jim-Bob sound like a chipmunk! Not good, though my kids think it's hilarious!
Wonna sell it lol?
Oh wow
Mind went missing. Did someone know?
I remember these two looking really old to me...now they look really young to me! Arnt the lyrics of this about child abuse?
Is it just me or does the children's laugh In this song sound like the noise Phillip schofeild made
Who's still here in 2021
Me
Been a fan since I was 11 I'm now 40 and listen to them all the time still
2022 and counting dude
2023
Still here in 2023🎉
Jim bob should be Sir Jim 👌🏻
Giza lift
Alternative FM Through the night
loved it to death after the watershed
So funny the things that people worried about before the internet.
Mad how they got sued by the Rolling Stones for this song. They should've loved the appropriation.
It's time for a grebo revolution
Well I'll be damned
Aww when rebelling was so much easier.x
Yes Rosemarie, you are right. Being the first to question things is always easy, especially when you write a cracking indelible indie tune to support it. Is most of your work done with anemic youtube comments?
Can anyone explain the David Icke references? Thanks!
He was a punchline even back then - went on Terry Wogan’s chat show claiming he was Jesus (or thereabouts) after a career which up to that point consisted of presenting the snooker and being a reserve goalkeeper for Coventry. As you do.
@@troubledjoe6201 yeah he's a strange fellow! So in 1991 when they sang "David Icke says he'd like to show us how to love you back to life again now", what did that mean?
Just riffing on his messiah complex I guess !
That or they just found mentioning his name funny, which you can’t rule out with Carter.
@@troubledjoe6201 it's a great hook...
AND DAVID ICKE SAYS!!!
@@davidjstreader It is a reference to how David has said that the human race is 'asleep' and to wake up and live again we must love each other and not accept the things our governments tell us, like the need to go to war.
I think I just might.
John players special No6. 😂.
I'm here because of mutley
Such a poignant song in the aftermath of the recent events with Arthur Labinjo-Hughes.
The song is about child abuse

the song is absolutely amazing, however the video absolutely sucks balls and sucks all the intensity out of the song, i used to switch this off anytime it would come on back in the day because of the video, its not till years later when i heard the song again without seeing that eyesore of a video did i appreciate its greatness, shame
Sounds like panic or metal guru
Does it?
Fair play to who did it, but the video really fucks up the song. I've never seen this vid before.
Come Home your Silly Cow we baked a Cake your Friends are writing
Waiting*
@@gazcook6218 well, from a transcendental point of view, either version is correct

I dread to think how much profit from this song goes to Allen Kunt, sorry, Allen Klein.
very similar to The Stooges - I Wanna Be Your Dog
