    Put copper shielding around the bobbin of the pickup and solder a wire from the shielding to ground also works very well.

    • @elbowjames7625
      @elbowjames7625 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A great deal of noise pickup enters from the top and bottom of the coil. If you have a P90, the metal baseplate shields the bottom but you would also need to use a metal top cover and connect it to ground - or line the plastic cover with metal foil and do the same. A Fender pickup or similar single coil would require shielding on the bottom, top and sides. The lipstick pickups dealt with this really well.

    Could you tell me the setup specs of your Strat? (The 70's head stock, Maple Fretboard.. ) What's the Radius of the Neck? What Radius do you set your Bridge? String Gauge? Neck Relief at "?th" fret? Action high "e" & Low "E" above the 12th (or 17th) fret? Your Nut Action at the 1st fret in thousands of an inch?
    I have the same guitar, only with a 7.25" Radius, Rosewood Fretboard and Olympic/Vintage white as Color... I'm having a pain in setting it up! (Low "E" saddle travel room/ the 5th"A"string on the 3rd fret, "C"Note still #Sharp! Even with low .016" cut nut slot at that string. ) I'm beginning to think my Nut slot should have been cut closer to the first fret. I hope you can give me the specs, maybe they help..Liked the sound.. Thanks! 👍👍

    • @captainhotbunz659
      @captainhotbunz659 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just buy a new 7.25 radius nut, You can buy them pre-cut from fender! You can also buy the slots pre-cut and file it down from the bottom to fit your guitar. They sell them on eBay and Amazon. Hope that helps you!

    • @klauscottonswab2322
      @klauscottonswab2322 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@captainhotbunz659 Just like that! 😉... No.. thanks, that's not the problem I've had.. I can make myself a guitar nut, that's not it.. Since the guy of the video didn't react.. When I was writing this i had thinner strings on it. The sharp C on the third fret of string 5 (A), is now resolved. I have a 7,25 " radius neck. And I know many Pro Players don't actually set their Bridge Saddles to a 7,25" radius as to achieve a reasonably "low" action without having the "outer"strings fret-out when bending. The B & e strings. I got my bridge saddles now at 15" radius. As to properly cut Nut slots.. The Buzz Feiten Tuning system actually moves the Nut closer to the first fret by a calibrated amount depending on string gauge and other factors, as to combat "Sharpness" at the first 3-5 frets. They cut a bit away from the fretbaord. Or you can make a overlaying "shelf Nut"(Your "open" strings are never in tune with fretted notes unless you exactly cut your Nut slots to the same level as the frets.. but your Nut action will then be low.. ) As of now i'm doubting to go for a compensated Nut, or the BFTS Shelf Nut.. I need to find the specifications of the Buzz Feiten...Since they want you to pay some certified BFTS guy to install it... And don't want to..😃 Thanks anyway, 👍

    Will it work for a Mosrite MK I guitar? They have single coil pickups but it is 13k instead of 6k, so they are twice as hot as a Stratocaster and even hotter than a Les Paul which is a humbucker. So there is some loud hum! What would be the best thing to do to get rid of the hum? Dont say P-90's!

  • @michaelcraig9449
    @michaelcraig9449 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    What about noise gates and noise suppressors, are they any good or not? Someone said they dont stop the hum at all.

    • @Javier-qk7ms
      @Javier-qk7ms 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Noise gates work on the concept that noise is always there, just being masked by your playing. This is like the concept of stacked single coil but this is not a new idea, as far as I remember there is another company doing it already for years, but the loop is in the back plate.

    • @montag4516
      @montag4516 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Noise gates just cut off the entire signal when it's strength falls below a certain level/threshold, but the pickup noise remains whenever the gate is open it's just that then the noise is less noticeable when playing.

  • @eduardwilliams1245

    I've pretty bad EMR at my place. Even my Burstbuckers are noisy. Yes it's grounded properly. I still have to "face Mecca" to get it to quiet down. Wonder if it would work with humbuckers? Probably a stupid question but it is a different system to a single coil.

      @@ilovenoise no we used to use a coil just like that from ilitch and this one looks pretty much exactly like Ilitch’s . Our SSC II does not go under the strings and is the size of a tele pickup but has very low DC resistance and does not interfere with tone. Ours also has taps to adjust for different pickups hum output. We also have an active version in which the pickups are not active, only the system so when the battery dies the noise comes back. We use that for P90’s because I hate any loss of high end and this was he best way.

    • @gregpeterson3144
      @gregpeterson3144 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A small dummy coil has MANY wire turns - means high inductivity, also a thin and long wire - means high resistance...
      These both affect the tone - the spark is gone, like in most noiseless pickups.
      The band coil has big area - the inductivty is less, on a squire! The wire is much thicker = much less resistance...
      The result is HUNDREDS of times less influence on the tone, compared to a dummy pickup.
