I looove the point about "is it compelling enough?". I try to ask myself that every time I make a video, especially shortform. If it's not compelling enough at the very beginning I get why people scroll away.

Yes, six/seven years ago the economy was near perfect. I had job offers. I had good temp assignments. My husband got a nice bonus. Yes! A good economy means not extremely high inflation and low unemployment. I did take a lot of economic courses in college. I had practically a minor in economics. The key is to keep trying. I may have started my business in the wrong economic cycle but I'm trying and hoping it will cycle up soon. Yes, inflation does affect spending habits there is a whole bunch of historical statistical information to back that up. Believe me my professors would relate that to us many times. I lived through the high inflation of the oil embargo. Not good. The key with staying power with most businesses is to have a good product and service, to not go into huge debt and to prepare for the down turns which usually means adapting. I suppose it's what my parents used to say, "save up for that rainy day." They lived through the Great Depression. I can tell you stories they told me. Locally I have seen the affects of our current inflation, local restaurants closing down and also the best boarding kennel in the area. She plain out told me she couldn't afford to stay in business anymore. It happens. It even happens to large companies like Toys R Us. I hear what you are saying. I know attitude is a key but we shouldn't ignore the realities of high inflation and or unemployment. Look at you. You have come up with different revenue streams to hedge/protect you from downturns. You do video. You do more than just pet photography. You started an educational platform. Now it looks like you may be subletting your new space to other entrepreneurs. I worked for a local bicycle shop business. He had several stores. He always had the positive approach so much so that he kept getting more loans. Well, he got so far in debt he lost his business. That's a shame. At the same time a friend of ours who had several bike stores weathered the economic storms by having that save for a rainy day attitude. He just recently retired and sold his bicycle business to a nationwide bicycle store. I just don't want people to have too much of a positive attitude that they ignore realities and go into debt. Debt will make you a slave and eventually cost you big time. I've seen that and it's not good.

I get it. I've seen all this and lives through it myself. It's exhausting to only hear and concentrate on the business who didn't make it. What about the ones who did? Wether through planning, diversifying, creating a nest egg etc. And some businesses ending now are actually just retiring. They've been in business for decades and are done. Trust me we have all these in my town too. My point is not to ignore reality, my point is to face and make a clear choice. Will you adapt or collapse? Model yourself after the thriving businesses instead of all your energy consumed with looking at what isn't working.

@@ProPetPhotog I just don't want to see people get into debt. I've seen that happen with businesses and they failed because of it even when times are good. Since I'm a small business (I never intended this to be big) I promised myself and my husband that I wouldn't get into debt. That's why I have a p/t job (which sometimes gets in the way of some things I like to do with my business marketing but I'm working on that). BTW, the survey I work on with the Census is now asking some more economic questions. For example one asks if people worry about their income. I imagine that's probably on many of the surveys right now. I think worry and negative feelings are things people have. That's normal. It's how one deals with it that is key. Like you said it's easy to make excuses instead of trying. I would rather try (do something) and fail than make excuse.

These are good responsibile goals. And I know people have worried about money since it's invention. In business we need to look at what we offer and know there are people who need and want it and find those people. Not dwell on people who aren't a right fit and can't take us up on our offers.

@@ProPetPhotog that's who I'm trying to find right now. I know they are out there. It's the finding of them that's been tricky for me. Bad news for me was when the local City decided to ban dogs from the Farmer's Market. The good news is the other local City near this one is very dog friendly. I contacted them for their Farmer's Market and just filled out an application. Since I will mostly be handing out business cards (maybe do something a la The Dogist) they aren't going to charge me. I did ask about setting up a table in the future. By then I could have some more samples to show. It's definitely a process. Monday I'm hoping and praying our Vet will let me have some business cards on his counter. We are to see him on Monday. Sometimes my p/t job gives me scheduling conflicts but I'm doing the best I can to work around them.
