I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I LOVE every dose of beauty and creativity from Studio McGee. On the other hand, I worry about the impact on the planet of the drive toward perfection of an ever-evolving ideal. The timelessness of Shea’s aesthetic is central to the appeal.
Her husband seems so happy for shea to be happy, they come across as well balanced and genuinely happy. He seems like a happy man, happy to support and be the balance 🎉 love to watch your vision's in interiors
The thing with houses with tall ceilings and vast space is that it's just really difficult to make it homey and warm. People gravitate towards smaller cosy spaces because it feels like a warm hug. Think cabin and cottage style houses that are smaller in scale. Big is not always better.
I just see useless space that is going to cost a fortune to keep cool in summer and warm in winter. Furniture never seems to fit those enormous spaces and always leave me wanting more. I think that must be the reason I prefer a ranch style home, it’s not difficult to make them homey and comfortable. But of course to each their own, if we were all alike, we’d only need one person.
Can’t wait to see it all! Reno’s do take way longer than you think. Mentally breaking ain’t that the truth. It’s nice to know even designers want to change what they created. It’s fun to see your home evolve and add unique features.
I'm so excited about this! I've been following Studio McGee since last year, but I've watched almost all of her videos and Shea has definitely grown as a professional, and her ideas have been revolutionized. I'm so happy for her and the Studio McGee family because she is so passionate, and her designs are art!❤
I hear ya on the plaster love. I’ve lived in an house built in 1939 for the last 30 years and used to complain about the crumbly plaster every time I tried to hang something, but I never knew how much I loved it until I remodeled, and had some drywall put in - 🙄 Definitely team plaster.
They need more of Syd’s humour on the show!! It’s so interesting - all the volume issues I had definitely picked up on. It goes to show that you gotta get the architecture right or our bodies will always know something is off.
I plastered two of my brick fireplaces in my home with joint compound. Oh my gosh it's so so beautiful and joint compound actually has a lot of lime in it so I consider it a lime wash treatment.
"Porch was awesome. Didnt know what was wrong with it. But when we did the new one i was like thats really cool". This is literally what my clueless husband says to me every time after i make a change to our house. 😂😂😂
Ok, so is the Cali modern look out as well as farmhouse? Traditional is in as well as dark and moody? Would love a video on easy or budget ways to make a home more transitional if you have over committed to one of those other looks in the past few years. There’s definitely something in your renovation that speaks to ways to make these changes.
Here I am watching this after our basement got flooded after a cold negative degrees here in Colorado. Wish I can reno our house like this! For now, watching this and living my dream through this video ❤
Oh my gosh look how grown your baby girl is now ❤ I remember when you were pregnant Shae, it seems like it was just yesterday! Like others here I can’t wait to see the outcome of your renovations, again seems like yesterday you amd Sid built and moved into your stuuuuning home, time flies. Alas, take good care, stay well and I’ll stay tuned. ☮️💜
Hi, studio mcgee, i love your channel so much. This is the first time am writing a comment but always rewatch your videos and especially your kit hen and pantry, so much love❤
your house was beautiful from the beginning but I understand the need of change, after 3 year in our new house we just decided to make some changes, we had to much of open space on the 1st floor and we are going to close it and make additional rooms. The open space is nice but it's very hard to heat it and plus now when we have a dog is very difficult to stop him to go on every couch so we need doors :)
I loved all the Netflix seasons and I love following the Instagram page. Besides, I love Shea's style, and I'd really like to know what cardigan she's wearing in this video :)
? Was there no way to put a window in the pantry the same way the laundry door brings light to the lounge? Could you take out the back of the top cupboards in the mudroom, put a window in there and put glass in the top cupboard doors? You couldn’t have stuff up there but you’d keep the illusion of the cupboards in the mudroom and get light in the pantry at the same time. ❤
My goodness! I feel so relieved. The contractor is just delivering my second build (the first one I'm actually going to live in), and I already have some regrets. The thing is, I'm not Shea McGee and don't have a whole team at my disposal to change things at my will 🤣🤣
The next house Syd, will only be larger, out of state, with a private plane and personal pilot to get you back and forth, on the weekends 😂 Not to worry, this house you will also keep! Looking forward to viewing the results, Shea! 🥰🙌
The part I love about this is that even brand new doesn't mean perfect and even Shae can make a mistake or change her mind! We're imperfect humans! 😅 (also a little ammo for me to paint the inside of my new house and change all the floors)😂
You have the most patient husband in the world. Obviously your situation is much different than the majority of ours, but there is no way in hell that my husband would allow me to make such huge changes after being in a new build for only a few years. He’s an accountant and he absolutely hates to pay twice for things. He’s very conservative with money and would rather take that money and invest it in something, whereas I just want a house that I truly love. 😫We’ve been in our semi-custom new build for 5 years now and if I could, I would literally change almost all of the finishes that I selected. The problem I had when I made these choices was that our builder’s design center just didn’t have very great selections. It was very disappointing. Plus we had to make a million choices in one day. I’m a very indecisive person, so having to make these very expensive and permanent (for us) choices in a short amount of time made my brain hurt. He thinks I’m being ungrateful for not loving everything about our house. I love a lot of it but would just like to change a few things (like our cabinets, flooring, kitchen backsplash, faucets). No big deal. 😂
The evolution was in the making, as some elements Shea changed were going out of style. How professional and realistic to go with what works for family life vs what is on trend. The house needed softening, and the changes will accomplish that.
I liked it better before, I prefered the entryway as it was,I actually want to do the brick cladding in my home, and much prefer the origional chairs and bench in the big room, I like the coffee table, dislike the new light fitting the old one was fab! why do your kids need tooth brushes in the entryway, where are they going to brush teeth, in the downstairs cloakroom, keep them in there, dont understand some of the changes, love a lot of the furniture wish it was available in the UK.
How high is their heating bill with those high ceilings?! And the air conditioning bill... But mainly those houses are just so wasteful and horrible for the environment!

I noticed that stylistically there's not much variation in the things they do, white, add country touches. Not a criticism at all, it looks great just saying.
Unfortunately people like Shea will never be content with any design or any homes. It's the case with many designers. It's very very important that we learn to love what we have. Anyway their money, their home 😊

agree, its ok to have 'regrets' but not everything has to be acted upon as the goal post will keep moving
