      So your ancestors were also jain or converted to jain ?

    • @Bratwurstboy
      @Bratwurstboy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@rbt5462 my ancestors were Jain shettys/Jain bunts who converted to Shaivism/Hinduism later. The 2 daughters of my last jain ancestor were married to hindu shettys that's why now we are hindu shettys.

    • @rbt5462
      @rbt5462 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Bratwurstboy you are saying your ancestors were jain Shetty's ....that means your ancestors were Hindus later they converted and mixed with Jain's that's how the name jain Shetty appeared now again converted or came back to Hinduism....right

    • @Bratwurstboy
      @Bratwurstboy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@rbt5462 You are right, before the arrival of jainism, Shaivism and Nagaradhane was dominant in coastal Karnataka.
      But Shetty surname originated from "Shrestis", these shreshtis were disciples of one of the most famous jain guru "Bhadrabahu", Bhadrabahu was also guru to Chandragupta Maurya. When Chandragupta Maurya and Bhadrabahu travelled south to Shravanabelgola 2300 years ago, they brought these Jain shreshtis from Gujarat, some of these shreshtis were princes, some of them were rich traders, and they married shaivite Nadava alupa kings in Kundapura/barkur because they were their only equivalent in coastal Karnataka. Hence this shetty/bunt/Nadava community was formed, Its a mixture of dravidian Shaivite alupas and Aryan Jains.
      But my ancestors possibly followed Jainism for close to 2000 years, that's why i highly respect Jainism and coincidentally I'm a pure vegetarian since birth, which is very rare for someone born in a family of meat eaters.

    • @rbt5462
      @rbt5462 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Bratwurstboy basically you are saying the Tulu people and kundapuraians of coastal karnataka are the result of mixing native alupas and Jain's who are from Gujarat...right?........btw I have one question why coastal people skin complexion are very contrast compare to other communities in Karnataka ......?I am assuming even Jain's from North got same complexion like yours so is this the proof that today's Tulu people are the result of mix between native Mangaloreians and jain from gujrat

    Before d establishment of Brahminism, there were only tribals,totems,aboriginals.
    When Brahminic community got upper hand in d society, jainism & Buddhism got birth in reaction.
    Probably there was rivalry among them to have social & political stregnth .
    The family which is strong enough to gain power by various means consider as kings & dynasties.
    Each religious priests tried to influence kings & dynasties to get more privileges for them.
    The group which succeeded in influenceing d kings by various means tried to establish their idea of society.
    Brahmins through their mantras mismerised & identified tribals according to varnashrama dharma.
    By d time tribals got mixed slowly. The occupations & tribalism created castes groups & came under varna dharma influenced by brahminism.
    Brahminism was a very good weapon of kings to have control on people & their political game.
    What really had happened, it is not easy to understand.
    One thing is clear no one in India today has pure blood. We r all mixed .whether we believe or not .
    But family culture & community culture influences family for its peace & development.

    I heard from my elders that when Jainism spread to S.India, especially dakshina kannada, many reputed Bunt families converted to Jainism from Hindu faith. That is the reason why both have similar surnames like Hegde, Chowta, Ajila etc

    • @ashwiniajari9199
      @ashwiniajari9199 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We never do conversion in Jainism. We don't except outsiders.

    • @rajduggal3938
      @rajduggal3938 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This happened years back. Not at present. When we offer food to ancestors during various traditional functions in our tharavadu houses, one vegetarian banana leaf offering is kept. My grandma used to say, 'Avu Jainag' in Tulu, which means that is for the Jain

    • @rajduggal3938
      @rajduggal3938 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And anyway at present no Bunt is the least interested in converting to Jainism.

    • @Bratwurstboy
      @Bratwurstboy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's other way round bro, bunts/shettys were originally Jains, during the conquest of Shivappa naika in karavali, he hated jainism very much because Bhairarasa was a tyrant, Bhairarasa used to bully even other Jain kings like venur ajilas and bangas of bangadi. Bhairarasa's family met his match only in Shivappa naika. Shivappa Naika was a very very noble lingayat king of Shaivism faith. So he completely vanquished the bhairarasas and the already fed up Jain shetty subjects and soldiers of bhairarasas happily converted to Shaivism, so either way jainism is the actual faith of bunts, but then Shaivism and Vaishnavism are also very beautiful religions, so its nothing bad if we continue following it, but we should also pay respect to jainism which was the religion of our ancestors for atleast 2000 years.

    • @rajduggal3938
      @rajduggal3938 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jainism spread to Karnataka from N. India during the 3rd century BC. Hinduism existed before that. So logically speaking the Jain munis and other preachers must have converted the local people to Jainism. This is the reason why they still speak the local language as their mother tongue and retained the same surnames even after converting to Jainism.
