This solution can be applied on the garden AT ANY TIME... the temperature of the garden does not matter... some of the microbes will go dormant until the conditions are right... the only temperature that matters is the BREWING temp... 75f is adequate... apply this solution with about one or two weeks in between applications...

@@kathyp.3214 i think you’ll have to figure out a way to maintain the warm temperatures or risk making an inferior product. It sounds like you might be living off grid if you’re using an oven for warmth… is this a wood burner? If yes, perhaps you could heat a bunch of bricks or rocks to put beside and/or under your pail and cover in blankets overnight?

Thank you Nate, I have been hammering some brand new beds with the JMS, my porch is like an assembly line of buckets and water off-gassing, the whole porch smells sort of like fresh bread. I have been cheating a bit by keeping some of the liquid to start the new buckets rather than replacing so much leaf mold. Works well for about four buckets and then it looses its luster of bubbles forcing me to start a brand new batch from scratch. Learning a lot from you videos, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.

I found myself wanting to make this early season JADAM solution for my garden. My problem is it is late winter here and I don't have any leaf mold. So I decided to try an experiment. I found what I thought was leaf mold. I took some home and heated it at 83 degrees for two weeks. Then I used my heated leaf mold and followed the instructions from this video. In 48 hours i had the large bubbles and the surface was covered in foam.

    Good video.
So the micro-organisms that are making the action in your inoculate are yeasts. They occur naturally in compost base and then thrive with the addition of water, potato starch (carbohydrates) and warmth. So with the warmth the yeast metabolizes the potato carbohydrates producing CO2 (bubbles) and ethanol as well as going to work on many biological levels I cant understand to make plenty of soil goodness.

Thank you for your videos on Jadam. They gave me a lot of tips. I've been doing JMS and JLF for about a couple of years now. When it comes to the JMS it's really frustrating because for what seems like no rhyme or reason, I can put the SAME EXACT inputs (the leaf mold from the same place, the potatoes from the same place, and the sea salt from the same place) and sometimes it works perfectly. The bubbles are nice and thick and sometimes things happen and I'm able to not get to the JMS, but the bubbles still hold up for the next day to maintain its viablity, so it's not wasted. It's just that strong.
Then there are other times it will start to bubble at the top and just completely fizzle out before they get really big and ready to be used. I just don't get it. I'm putting in the SAME EXACT inputs. What in the world is causing the difference? Is it the case, that in the instances where the bubbles fizzle out at the surface, the solution is still viable underneath the surface, so I should use it?!?!
I've even bought an aquarium heater and the results are basically the same with out without it. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I just don't get it. Is it the ratios? I don't know...I've heard you mention that it doesn't have to be that exact when it comes to measurements....so I'm just totally frustrated right now.

After the microbes reach their peak and start to die, why can’t you add more food to prolong and increase their lives? If not , won’t they die in the soil? Especially if the soil temperature is considerably lower than their optimal 75 degrees, which it will be until spring?

the book states if the water temp is below 64f then you must use a heater to bring it to at least 68f... my experience over the years has led me to the 75f mark as the ideal water temp for indoors over winter especially for beginners just learning the procedure

Or maybe we're supposed to wait until we terminate cover crops and then put it on?? Thanks again! Yours is The Best gardening channel!!

I'm not 100% certain but my guess is it would be best to apply it diluted, as you would use it on vegetables etc during the growing season.
Just to be in the safe side.
You might try applying it diluted to most of the area with cover crop, and use it undiluted on a small test patch and see what happens.

ive never tried it but I do not think it will work because the JA is made of a totally different substance called "inulin"... and it would not feed the IMO's nearly in the same way as the nice easy to digest starch of the potato

I had to laugh when you said "Even though it's cold outside". It IS cold outside- about 24 degrees. But the cold isn't the problem, it's the five to seven feet of snow on the ground. And in the next two days we are going to get between four and a half to five and a half more feet of snow. We are about six miles from the South gate of Yosemite. If the power stays on we'll be fine, but these storms have convinced me to get my butt back down to the coast as soon as I can get out of here. (That's where my garden is anyway.)

There are studies published on line that show that the oxygen runs out long before the food runs out (even when using an aquarium bubbler to oxygenate the solution). I don’t understand how many of the organisms survive; how much organic matter (bacterial food) must be present in the soil when applying the solution? Is the plan that they will be dormant and ready to go when more organic matter is present in the spring?
