Is this really the fix, though? We have more “mental health” and “mindfulness” programs in schools than ever before, and yet we still have these incidents. Thirty, forty years ago, no one had ever even heard of “mental health programs” and yet there we comparatively far less of these incidents. I know everyone wants a quick fix here, but I would like for everyone to think very carefully about this.
THANK YOU!!! No kidding. If the schools were safe when I went there 50 years ago ( in the very same ZIP code as this school) what has changed since then? My assessment would be PEOPLE and POLITICS. That's two different things, mind you, I'm not equating them. We're doing something really stupid because the rest of the world does not have this problem.
Guess what, we can be both. In fact, it is BECAUSE I'm friends with my kids that they feel they can come to me regarding any problem they might have, no topic is off limits where they feel they can't discuss it with me. Unfortunately to this day as an adult I feel that I can't talk to my parents about certain issues because the issues are "things we don't talk about".
Reminder, it’s illegal for this child to own a firearm by themselves. It was their parents that allowed them access to the gun that shot so many people. Their parents need to be held responsible for allowing their child access to the firearm unsupervised
@@markphillips4553it's possible but many times it's simple and it's the parents. I have 3 kids and guns, a heavy safe and one key that's always with me. Not hard to keep your firearms in check.
@@markphillips4553 Doesn't matter! The onus is on the ADULTS to keep a firearm safe so that children are not able to bring it to school with ammunition in it. You are just making excuses, which makes you part of the problem. I'm a Marine, I know about firearms. If an adult doesn't keep them secure so that minors can't access them, there should be 100% liability imposed on them.
As _The Guardian_ says: "America has long had an epidemic of school shootings, on a scale unlike any other country in the world but has struggled with any meaningful efforts to curb the phenomenon, especially when it comes to limiting access to powerful firearms." "Thoughts and prayers" aren't going to help anything.
Cause the guns aren't the issue. Mental health is the issue, being radicalized to hate ppl that disagree with or vote different is the issue. Not taking threats seriously is an issue. Making places gun free means easy targets. Address the issues, hold the parents accountable if it's not the kids gun but the parents.
I always love the level of concern and outrage when it comes to something like this happening. Meanwhile it doesnt seem to the same level when shootings take place everyday in the cities.
And the lack of concern about Putin's invasion of a neighboring country. So, shall I assume you're a fellow fan of Jonny Quest? If so, would it be the original series from 1964-65? I've got it on DVD. I live in Madison, and went to school less than a mile away from Abundant Life. No guns, no shootings, no violence, what's changed since then, that's the question. Thanks for a sane comment.
This guy is naive if he really thinks no school needs a metal detector. Not saying that's gonna solve everything, but some safety measures are not unreasonable.
Who said that? You put in it quotes as if someone actually said that. We aren't even close to the best country in the world. Forced diversity and wokeness has guaranteed that will never be the case.
Guaranteed the kid was sent against his will. Evil kids need to remain in the public schools. Do not integrate your heathen kids into christian schools just for a better education😖
Wait... I thought the reason these sorts of things were happening was because God wasn't in the schools anymore? Just another tragedy that will be glossed over with "thoughts and prayers" and anecdotes of "there is nothing more we can do to prevent these events from happening".
I thought they said if the 10 commandments were placed in every school these shootings would stop? Did this Christian school not have the 10 commandments displayed?
Holding gun owners equally responsible for a crime committed by anyone with their gun. Too often it’s a loaned gun or guns at home not secured. Until the gun owner will lose something by not securing them, this will continue to happen. There are no gun laws that will keep guns out of the hands of criminals, we just need to hold people accountable and stop letting the owner of the gun get off with no repercussions.
"God" isn't going to do this, PEOPLE have to fix what people messed up. Face facts. 50 years ago when I was in high school in the same ZIP code as this school is in, I was never afraid of anyone bringing a weapon to school. Nobody DID bring a weapon to school. What has changed since then? Figure that out, fix it, and we're well on our way to addressing the issue. But don't expect "God" to do it, he has a very VERY bad history of solving problems on this continent, beginning with millions of the native peoples being killed for not belonging to his religion. I'm just saying, people have to fix the problems that people cause. Part of this has to do with the way people vote, and it is seriously time for people to consult their consciences.
What is concerning is that kids have access to these weapons. Sorry but adding more guns will not solve this. Banning guns will NOT solve this either...I think it's the fact that we have certain mindsets around these firearms. The idea of them is romanticized in a way that in other nations that are "Guns Positive" (Switzerland) that have them isn't the same way, they view the whole thing way differently. I think that's part of it. We have this idea that violence solves things. That's the message some of these kids are getting and THAT'S whats toxic. The real question is how do we fix this?
You start at the root issue. Which is Mental health. A normal person isn't going to do this. Almost everyone I in my family owns guns, not one of us would do this. Taking threats of violence seriously, potentially charging the parents if it was a weapon from the house and not bought before hand. There's lots of ways to combat the issue but the only issue we ever hear about is ban guns when the guns aren't the issue. They are easy to use sure, but anyone determined enough can make explosives or use everyday tools like a hammer or knife etc. They are also getting radicalized online by ppl calling for the deaths of ppl they disagree with which is also a big issue. Look at all the ppl wishing someone would do this to Trump etc like him or not.
I blame the entertainment industry and I blame poor parenting, I blame the people who don’t want to take responsibility for their own actions and want to blame everyone else. We have a broken society.
There’s nothing you can do to stop people from getting guns illegally. You can make one with a 3D printer. We fix it by taking the security of our children seriously and protecting them the same way we protect everything else. Politicians get round the clock armed security, sporting events have bag checks, metal detectors and armed guards, concerts get guards and bag check but our most important and most vulnerable people get thoughts and prayers.
I attended high school in the same ZIP code as Abundant Life. Kids in that neighborhood who attend public high school would go where I went. My father had several firearms in our house, and he had six children. NONE of us ever brought a gun to school. I don't begin to think that I've got the answer(s) but I certainly have the question. What has changed since then?
Didn't some people claim this epidemic happens because prayer was removed from schools?🤕🥴 FYI: Prayer was never removed from schools, students are afforded the opportunity to pray to what ever deity of their choosing or otherwise "groomed and religiously indoctrinated (coerced) with, into, during the moment of silence.
Schools should have metal detectors and guards. What do you mean??? Yes I understand it makes it seem like a jail and bla bla bla but I bet you it would 100% help. Doing nothing isn’t the answer. My high school had gun and knife problems so they put in metal detectors, xray machines and brought in extra guards. Didn’t have that problem anymore. This was in the early 2000’s too and us students just dealt with it. I’d rather go through a metal detector than get shot but that just me
I was surprised to hear that too. I agree, there should be a realistic balance. You can have safety measures in place without the school having to become some kind of dystopian nightmare. People are what make or break a community.
Same old story: school allowing weapons to walk through their door. Repeat, repeat, repeat. Are schools ever going to learn from these happenings ?? Don't think so. They gone blame anything, anyone else they can find

Lol I get what he’s trying to say but the mindset of trying to save this corrupt nation is in the past and will require major long term cultural changes. We have to accept the threats that face us. They very much should all have metal detectors. As well as delegated armed guards in control of surveillance and in protected positions about the entrances of a school building.
You're taking the statement as an instruction when its intention is "our society should not lead to actions that require such measures as metal detectors". We should not have these issues. We should not live in a place that needs such security. This is a school. Compare it to previous times of no security at all, and when half the vehicles in this area had hunting rifles in them.

Where are they selling ammunition in grocery stores? Serious question because I have never seen any ammunition sold in any grocery store and a vending machine where I live here in Michigan.
It's never going to stop because this country doesn't allow schools to arm themselves and armed police/security has been known to hide while a school was being attacked in a different story years ago. By law schools are to "Remain Unarmed" and just hide and wait while not legally allowed to use force to protect the students from any said attacker. If every teacher/school administrator was trained to handle a school attacker then these types of stories would be extremely rare instead of places of education continuing to be highly popular easy targets for present/future attackers year after year. Bad thing is schools are not legally required to keep kids safe from attackers but parents are mostly required to send their kids to these "unsafe" schools. I don't get why people can't get this figured out. More laws won't help. If you outlaw guns, criminals and mentally unstable will find guns on the black market. So you arm law abiding citizens. You vote to allow measures within the budget to fund security AT EVERY SINGLE SCHOOL. It's time. I'm willing to put money in for that. I'm NOT willing to put more money into my state so that the Board can take more vacations.

GOD HELP HEAL ALL THESE SOULS AND PROTECT ALL OUR CHILDREN IN EVERY SCHOOL ACROSS OUR NATION
Except not in this particular Christian school, apparently.
AMEN
Many countries in Europe have banned guns except with restrictions but then the criminals use large knives.

Where are they selling ammunition in grocery stores? Serious question because I have never seen any ammunition sold in any grocery store and a vending machine where I live here in Michigan.
So??? With proper id it's completely legal. Same a a machine that vends beer or a cigarette vending machine in some bars

CHRISTians are a favorite target of the devil. It causes unbelievers to mock JESUS' followers, which delights the evil one. And even though those believers who die in the LORD go directly to glory forever in JESUS' presence, it's very hard for those believers who lose their loved ones. Another bonus that the devil is happy about.
Such things are to be expected, however, b/c we saw all these things play out in JESUS' life also. That is why CHRISTians rejoice every day that JESUS came to conquer eternal death, which is why every living person who believes that JESUS came to take the punishment for our sins, believes He saved us for eternal life with Him! 😊
May the LORD comfort the families & friends missing their loved ones with His peace that passes understanding. 🙏🏼

I don't get why people can't get this figured out. More laws won't help. If you outlaw guns, criminals and mentally unstable will find guns on the black market. So you arm law abiding citizens. Who did it?
School shooter was probably 🏳️🌈, one of you guys.
HAH! Yeah, we didn't talk about god when I went to high school, and we didn't pray, and it was the very public high school where kids living near Abundant Life would go if they went public. Nobody was known to have ever brought a gun to school, nobody was shot, nobody was killed or died in school in those four years. Incredible! I wonder how we managed it.
Homeschool your kids. Get them out of these dysfunctional institutions.
Ok you guys keep praying THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS and here in Canada we will stick with gun control and lets see who can send their children to school their mothers to the store their grandmothers to church concerts or parks ! It says a well regulated militia fools !
Stay out of my countries business.

“Police services in Canada reported around 14,000 incidents of firearm-related violent crime in 2022, roughly 1,400 more than the previous year.”. These are the first stats that came up on a quick google search. Looks like you guys need work as well.
@@themotorcycleguy1 Uh oh, looks like the southern pot has called the goods on the northern pot! PLEASE see that as the compliment it is intended to be.
Does anybody else feel like we don't live in the United States anymore?
No one cares about this because no one does anything to stop it.
Perhaps there's repercussions to having a gun glorifying society, who could have known 🤔
Oddly enough if everyone hadn't been a sitting duck and someone could have fired back this wouldn't have happened, but let's worry about taking others rights instead huh comrade.
Sure blame the gun and not the mentality of those that commit evil acts.
Or sexualizing & lying to them about gender
👹💩
@@Zachary77 How about the mentality of those who incessantly make excuses for the insane occurrences of gun massacres in the US?
@Zachary77 How does this rationalization explain why Republicans have been banning inanimate objects like books?
Incident happens, news coverage, thoughts and prayers, mental health, parents to blame, rinse and repeat. No one talks about the real issue of weapons and gun control.
The cops are always clean up. Prevention is a personal responsibility by taking your own protection into your own hands. Schools have to arm up and train with law enforcement. The responsibility falls on the schools, private or public.
Indiana school teachers can carry concealed.

Regardless of your political opinion please help make schools safer for students. This is a bipartisan issue and we need to work to solve this nation wide issue.
