    Definately helped a beginner like me. I was fed up wondering if I needed to bend that part but didn't think that was right. Glad u touched on that in this video. Thanks.

      Thank you for the kind comment! There are some excellent videos on here showing how to place the traps for coyotes. It's not as easy as you might think! Those critters are the most intelligent predators on this planet, beside humans that is. Good luck!

    I recently found some of these on our property by the river, rusted to not being able to work. Tossed them in some vinegar so now they move freely. I still didn’t know how to set them. Thanks for the video and I can’t wait to use them next season.

    Thanks for posting this. I like using the boots for two reasons...more strength and a little safer. I set the dog with a pair of needle nose pliers because I've had broken fingers and they're not fun :-))

    I tried to set a trap a few days ago. Put a foot on each side but my muck boots were too soft to grab the end of the springs well enough to hold them. Then the ground under the trap was too soft and allowed the trap to sink in the leaves. Really frustrating. Then it was cold and I was bundles up a little to much. Really frustrating. Easy to set on a hard floor with hard boots and regular clothes.

      You are absolutely correct! Yes, setting a trap in perfect conditions is a whole lot different than setting one in a situation that is a lot more real.

      Carry a piece of wood board with you. Just a suggestion I haven't been able to trap as of yet but acquiring the needed equipment is taking time and obviously money. Feel like I've started late at 35 years old but I figured now is better than ever.

    Setting these traps all by yourself is not as easy at it looks. If you don't have the dexterity to bend straight over and get down low or don't have a friend to set the dog while you stand on the levers it can be frustrating. While standing on the levers, I have found success using a full size pointed shovel to press down the jaw lower and using a Harbor Freight grabber and a 2 foot threaded bar to pull up the foot pad and to manipulate the dog under the tab. No bending over.

    Can I use this exact trap for raccoon or is it too big?

    • @alhefner
      @alhefner  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a little big for racoon I think. A 1.5 or even just a 1 might be better.

    • @alhefner
      @alhefner  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      True, nobody in their right mind WANTS to have one of these shut suddenly on their hand. HOWEVER, I have had just that happen several times while setting traps. Yes, it stings but it DOES NO DAMAGE... not so much as a bruise. It's more of a irritating pain is the ass when it happens because now, you have to get the trap off one handed and go back to setting it...

    Do you realize you can buy trap setters for these traps and it is a lot safer then your way . You should do more research before you show a new trapper how to do something that he could hurt his self doing .
