6:12 Just to correct: not the same as California. The E4 is located in the lowlands of Sweden and is the fast north-south connection. The E45 is the mountain region scenic highway that may even be temporarily closed during a heavy snowfall. E in the name refers to Europe route, a major road passing and connecting several countries. Digits after E show the road status, less digits indicates more important.

"Högertrafiksomläggningen" is quite an interesting story, it's really down to us having a very successful industry post ww2 (since we didn't participate it didn't get bombed) so a lot of Swedes bought American cars because they were big, luxurious and powerful compared to what a lot of Europe were producing at the time. That meant that we had a lot of people sitting on the wrong side of the car all while being surrounded by countries driving on the right and as a result we flipped to driving on the right.

only thing with allemansrätten is kinda you can walk in to others backyards, but it depends on what you mean by it. It's ofc considered rude to go in on others backyard close to the house etc, but if its a forested area hundred meters away from the house or something you can go past that in the woods and enjoy the day. But maybe not go right past the house a few meters away from it, also it has some rules like leave it the same way you found it etc. But if someone is interested about it they can read up more and way better explanation then I can muster to type up right now. Also look up more on the taxes if your interested, it sounds pretty high if you compare it to what you would earn and live with on the US salery etc, but when you look at the medium on what you usually pay as a normal family or individual in the US vs Swe, you can see that the tax we pay we get enough back to make it kinda the same as in the US but the diffrence is that we always have thoes securities taxes provide no matter what. Thats the jist of it.

11:15 That might be true in the far south, but there will always be snow in south every year.
18:40 Lördagsgodis doesn't translate to weekend candy but saturday candy. But most kids probably get some on both friday and saturday.
20:10 It's jantelagen, without the space. Also not a real law.
24:05 Not sure if asatru is the English word but in Swedish it's asatro.
36:45 Not sure about leading on with smile though, that's gonna be weird to a lot of Swedes. The rest is true though.

There's a like a constant lack of both doctors and nurses, and specialists in health care like surgeons bc they get better pay in Norway so they can go work in both countries. Norway has the North Sea oil, so. And 2. The population has been growing rapidly due to several waves of refugees, the 2015 is mentioned in the video - yes, but there were other before that. Sweden has been generously accepting refugees, and alas, the health care system hadn't kept up with that pace. Takes time to train doctors, doesn't - plus the fact that they're getting better pay in like Norway, for one - creates the perfect storm!

37:40 ish into the video, you talk about Sweden being neutral and it being difficult. But, despite the country itself being "neutral" in every conflict, we have had troops in almost every war and conflict. For peace keeping purposes, and helping civilians. So "neutral" needs to be a little more vague than what comes across.
And also, during WW2, Sweden didn't really have much of a choise. We were sending half or more of our military equipment, vehicles and weapons, rations and volunteers to Finland, who at the time were at war with Russia, yes, same time as WW2 was happening which is why people often forget or confuse these as two separate wars. And Sweden is and was in need of their trade with other ocuntries, which was of course not going as it should during the war. Germany cut the ocean link to Britain, so Sweden basically were forced to trade with Germany to keep going economically. Good or bad? I don't know, but it was a hard time. We were, however, stationed to protect our borders. Taking in all or most jewish refugees and protecting them from Denmark and Norway aswell as taking in a lot of children from Finland to protect due to their war. And after the war, we also freed - thanks to Raoul Wallenberg - several jewish from concentrationcamps and took them in to our society. We also trained norwegian refugees militarily so that they could reclaim their occupied country, and we were in plans along with Britan and America and Norway to go on offensive to free Norway. Neutral? I think we already picked a side. Plus, we helped to find Bismarck. And our royal house and politicians and also other people of standing positions spied on Germany for the Allies. Tapping phonelines cutting into Norwegian and Danish occupations. Hm, neutral....
Aswell as several wars now, like the war against terror, swedish troops have been involved.
So take it with a grain of salt.
    P.S.
    Greetings from South Sweden!
The cold, depressing rainy area of Sweden xD
Yes, we do get snow when it is cold. But we have a lot of factories and workplaces down here, like industries and packed cities. They get too warm for snow to stick to the ground for long periods. But, if you go from my city - Eslöv in South Sweden, Skåne, and upwards, you get more and more snow. Plus, most of our cities down here are close to the ocean, which also play a part in climate. Firther north you go, more and more cities will be further from the ocean, and more protected from the wind. Skåne, south Sweden, I recently learned is well known to be windy (personally I thought our wind was just a normal breeze).

Funnily enough the US actually spends more taxes per capita on healthcare than most other countries. And yet they still take a lot of money from individuals because of insurance and extremely high prices etc. In reality the US doesn't have that low taxes if you include out of pocket expenses that Sweden for example cover with taxes.

They are WRONG about the "Allemansrätten" (Right of Public Access). You HAVE access to be on private land! THAT'S THE POINT!
This is how it works; "'the public has access to private land where no damage is likely to result and prohibition would be unreasonable"'. You can camp anywhere you want....in Sweden for one or two nights. (Not caravans dough....that's not real camping anyway) ;-) You can pick berries in the woods, climbing or hiking, fishing is free with rods along the coast and in the five largest lakes, you have to buy a "fishing-card" in many smaller lakes but that doesn't cost much. The nature is available for everybody.
With a few EXCEPTIONS like peoples GARDENS, MILITARY AREAS and SUCHLIKE, and with these "right to roam" come responsibilities; that is, an OBLIGATION neither to harm, disturb, litter, nor to damage wildlife or crops.
    "The Swedish know-it-all" ;-)

About taxes, if you don’t work fulltime you pay less than 32%. I work 30h/week and pay around 25%. The taxes are already withdrawn when you get your paycheck. People with very! high income pay 52%, but there are ways to get around that. In the healthcare system a visit to the doctor cost about 25 USD. If you i e have to visit a doctor 4-5 times in a year and have payed 130USD in total, the visits are free for 12 months. If you have to stay in hospital for a longer time the cost is 12USD per day, that includes all meals and medicine. If you have to stay for more than 30 days you only pay 6 USD / day. You don’t pay for surgerys or childbirth. To me it’s definitely worth paying taxes. Schools are free, the meals in school are free. The university is free, but one often take studentloans to be able paying rent, eat and live.

wrong! allemansrätten is NOT only on public land/goverment owned land - it's also legal on private properties,as long as you dont get to close to the actual house/homestead ,then you can camp, pick berries, hike and so on even on private properties - about the taxes, americans find them to ver very high,BUT- we have free healthcare, free roads, free schools ,even universities ,for an average american to have the same "free" things, they have to pay over 65% of their income in insurances, and fees, when we only pay about 33% on average...except if you are wealthy, then you pay more(yes, rich people pay more-go figure)

Not even the swedish people in this video can explain "allemannsretten" correctly. They say it is only on PUBLIC land, This is WRONG. There would not be anything special about the right to roam on land that is puclicly owned. The thing that is special about this law, the reason it is worth mentioning, is that it also apply to private land. Private land can be grouped into two main types of land. There is CULTIVATED land, and UNCULTIVATED land. Cultivated land can not be accessed without permission from the owner or representative of the owner(s). "Allemannsretten" is all about the UN-CULTIVATED land, no matter if it is publicly or privately owned. You can't buy a piece of forest, for example, and think that you can keep people out of it. Even if you do logging or forageing in your own forest, you can not claim that it is cultivated land, and you can't deny others to use the forest and forage there too. Here is what ChatGPT says about "allemannsretten" (and it is 100% correct.):
"Allemannsretten" is a Norwegian and Swedish term that translates to "the right of public access" or "everyman's right." It is a legal concept that grants people the freedom to roam and access certain outdoor areas in Norway, including forests, mountains, and uncultivated land.
Allemannsretten provides individuals with the right to enjoy and explore nature, engage in recreational activities, and temporarily stay in these outdoor areas, even if they are privately owned. It is based on the principle of public access to nature, allowing everyone to experience and appreciate the country's natural beauty.
Under allemannsretten, individuals are permitted to walk, hike, cycle, and ski through the countryside, as long as they do not disturb or harm the environment. They can also pick wild berries, mushrooms, and flowers for personal use. Camping for a short period, fishing in non-stocked waters, and accessing coastal areas are also generally allowed, though certain restrictions may apply in specific cases.
It's important to note that while allemannsretten grants these rights, it also expects individuals to act responsibly, respect nature, and follow guidelines to preserve the environment and wildlife.

I like Jodi say no no no to pay 30%+ taxes, when the truth is most americans pay up to 45%+ taxes without knowing it. Look at the american family that moved to Denmark and made a great video on the danish and american tax systems. They are called Traveling young. so would still be better to live in a country that provides for you on your tax $ instead of the money goes to fund war or politics :)

This video is very utopian, in reality most money goes to the politicians, in pretty much all sectors there's a downward spiral, it's just a mantra people keep telling themselves that Sweden is so great, the tax money goes to fixing roads?, the main ones sure, there are so many smaller roads that need repairs but guess what, there's no money for that, but giving politicians 18000 dollars per month is sufficient.

    • @waeress
      @waeress ปีที่แล้ว

Well, a lot of stuff that is cited as being great as funded by tax goes back decades. And at a time there was a lot more tax collected to build and fund those things. Now we have had like 30 years of cutting taxes at the same time as the different things we spend money collected from taxes on have grown. So some stuff don't get properly funded.
