    beautiful. Ma also has a flock of chickens she is breeding - and we probably don't know exactly how many we have either!
    yeah we also had a 'hoodini' sheep named obed who always led the others on trips out of their paddocks. we decided to take him and another boy out (they're meat ones) and relocate them to a different paddock. I find that since then they have hardly escaped, compared to escaping near every day like before!
    Say hello to 'the chicken lady' from tasmania for me! keep it up y'all!

    That looks like a perfect combination on grazing. I have heard sheep will pass up a perfect blade of grass(to a cow) to go eat a weed. The other thing we found sheep love is the neighbors flowers. :-( oops! sorry! ps. thanks for the little shout out at the end. love the channel.

      Yay! Glad you stuck around for your shoutout. 🙌🏻
      Truer words were never spoken: apparently the neighbors grass is doused with secret sauce. They were just there last month. 😂😂

    Love the interaction & personality on this one!! Perhaps a small water tank on the back of the side-by-side would work for the rotational movement. Since they don't drink like crazy, even one of the horizontal sprayer tanks with a hose would suffice.

    great video and proper use of the land. The beef only like the lush grass and will leave the grass that has gone to seed, the sheep will devour everything that is left and the chickens will spread the manure and eat the tasty bugs that they can now get on the sheep mown grass. Also each set of animals fertilize the land in their own way. You will have choice land for years to come.

    One of the most portable and effective warters that I would recommend would be a 75-200 gallon tank on a small running gear. This would allow you to constantly move the water with a small implement and just fill it up at the barn. This would also be far cheaper than putting in water piping.
    I would then attach a small automatic water to the tank mounted on the side or back. This system would work for the sheep and cattle. The only caveat would be a 3-4 gallon pan for the cattle so they do have enough water to drink. (Cows will stop drinking if the water gets to shallow.) I have found for a stationary solution a 150 gallon tank with a small float water works the best. I just splash the pan out once a day and there is not really a need to worry. I would recommend over sizing the water tank to last 3-9 days as this would be less tedious but still provide fresh water.

    We just built the John Suscovich chicken tractor a few months ago and got 15 Red Rangers from a friend. I killed one the first moved when it got kinda sucked out the back. I'm just glad it was an instant death, poor thing. It's more for meat birds though, no egg boxes. We have heritage Rhode Island Reds and a full Cornish roo that we were hoping to cross, and we also wanted to do Red Buffs. Our plan was Red Buffs, Cornish Red, and Cornish Buff, but the Cornish roo is a little small and our Reds have a little larger backside so we aren't sure the job will be able to get done. Definitely mixing Reds and Buffs here in a few weeks.

      About 1/3 acre now that the lambs are grazing quite a bit! I could get away with 1/4 or 1/5 of an acre, but once I start pressuring them too hard with the smaller paddocks, they’ll be more prone to jump the line for their favorite food on the other side. 😅

    Whitey says "new grass, im up im up". Couple questions, when do you become a large farm rotational grazing? Two, has chicken lady looked at AL Lumnahs $30 chicken tractor? Of course lumber cost today it would be more but not as expensive as the chic shaw. God Bless!

    How are you doing during fly season? Are the chickens helping keep the you population down?

    • @theShepherdess
      @theShepherdess  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not too bad! We had horseflies from March-mid April but they have died off. The sheep manure does not attract flies like cow pies do, so that’s a huge advantage I have by running mostly sheep.
      Fly strike hits hard in July/August so I’ll have to see how they do this year. This will be the first time we have had our mobile chicken coop rolling with the cattle so fly control is mostly to be determined. 👍🏻
