I notice a lot of people cross the road either not at traffic lights or crossings, and if they do use the crossing or traffic lights, they cross against the light. In general, where I live in Australia we don’t tend to cross illegally, and nearly always cross at lights if on main streets. Here in Melbourne we cross not at lights nay on the very narrow streets in the city. Is there a law against crossing against lights, and if so if the police saw that would the pedestrian get fined.
from what i understand UK does not really have jaywalking laws, only banned on Motorways or where specifically signed i believe. Up here in NQLD its pedestrian x=ing or traffic lights if close, otherwise its cross when you wont get run over. Cops only care if person crossing does not have common sense.

In the UK (except maybe Northern Ireland, I think?) you're allowed to cross more or less anywhere you're able.
