    Tiny correction at 2:09 - you should add *one* inch to the diameter of your desired beret width for seam allowance, if you’re sewing with a half-inch seam allowance. (Or add half an inch to the diameter and then sew with a quarter-inch seam allowance). ~maths~ Thanks to the person who pointed this out! 😊
    And thanks everyone for watching & leaving me lovely comments! ❤️

    I would put interfacing on the top circle piece especially if your using a thinner fabric, this would also help make it not fray as much if you are using cotton. Hope this helps!😊

    Oooooh this looks like it'll be fun, looks like I have to get good at sewing so I can do this without jamming the machine. I love berets, and need more of them (that hopefully fit better than the one I wear almost constantly, which is an awesome hell cat punks one I got at the start of the year when I was in Japan with Jambi)

    • @bipolartorecovery1485
      @bipolartorecovery1485 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Sachi the Cat ヽ(*≧ω≦)ノ couple quick tips on how to prevent jams (trust me, i had to relearn these too) 1. Dont cut your thread "tails" short before you sew. Leave them long so the machine doesnt pull them down into the bobbin, you can cut them off later 2. Never thread the machine with the foot down. The tension discs dont work right if you thread it with the foot down. If you forget, just rethread the machine. 3. Dont start your sewing at the very edge of the fabric. Start a little bit into the fabruc and just back stitch to just before you reach the edge 4. This is kinda hard to explain but making sure you have a good balance of tension between the bobbin and the needle will prevent alot of headaches. I'd just look for a couple videos on how to adjust the tension. Professor pincushion is another place to learn the basics(not as entertaining as our gal here but really broken down fir anyone to follow) i hope this was helpful! Trust me, i made my homecoming dress with help back in high school and last month still had to fish out my first t shirt attempt that got jammed in the feed dogs :/ just keep trying and you'll get there

    • @AnnikaVictoria24

    Traditionally a beret is made by knitting and felting 100% wool yarn.
    If your comfortable knitting there are tons of patterns on Ravelry that guide you through the process.

    watching you snap your needle in half made me want to tell this story: i saw the beautiful vans on instagram with patches and thought to myself psh i could make that so i tried all kinds of glue and that didnt work so i resorted to sewing. which i would never advise because on top of everything my patch had the glue on the back which is also extremely difficult to get a needle through long story short there were a lot of tears and at least 5 broken needles and now i barely even wear the shoes just great

    i accidentally crocheted a rad beret when i was attempting a beanie! 😂 so technically i guess that makes it easy to do? it even had a natural bobble on it from the slipknot at the beginning 😂👍 what with your newfound love of crochet, maybe that could be fun to do? ps hi from a fellow aussie in canada! (i was trying to make a beanie cos it's so freakin cold here, but then it turned into a beret...but then it became summer and 35C anyway so yay!)
