It was a huge controversy when Journey first picked him up and changed their style somewhat to appeal to a much broader audience but there is no doubt it was the right move. I was in high school when this song came out in 1984. I wasn't a huge Journey or Steve Perry fan at the time but I recognized they were very good. You're right though; his voice and performance really does melt in. Keep exploring the 70's and 80's. That is when all that happened in music. Today....not so much.
