Bere, You CAN kill him, he probably ran away because no one was attacking him. Once you kill him his body will be limp in the water and sink slowly, then your quest is complete. Meaning you have to attack him at all times.
He takes 106 canon shots to kill him and you have to stay in the area becuz he'll leave if you don't also you really need to stalk up on supplies cuz like i said he take 106 canon shots to kill him also you need 2 ppl on water and repair while 2 more are on canon and 1 person on the wheel to stay in the area to kill him and you don't complete the quest til you kill him. hope this info helps and keep up the good work! This might help: For the duration of The Hungering Deep, the megalodon can only be fought to the southwest of Devil’s Ridge, at the T26 coordinate. You will hear a strange music which means the megalodon is hear. As the megalodon is circling, use the Flintlock pistol or the Eye of Reach sniper to land some shots on it. When it finds its target, watch what side it comes in on and prepare to use those cannons to fire into its mouth. The megalodon will rush directly at the ship and just before it connects, it will rise up above the water and spread its jaws for a massive bite - at this moment, fire as many cannonballs into its mouth as possible to hopefully prevent it from biting the ship. This tactic will also do the most damage.

Yes you can kill him, the problem I think was you guys kept moving the ship in the direction that kept you guys headed to far from the area you were suppose to fight on. Keep the ship still once the megalodon comes in, don't move the ship. Don't wait for the megalodon to come close to you, its actually wasting time since you had a decent amount of time to keep shooting at him. You need as much help as you can. Once you killed the megalodon, he starts to sink down to the water slowly, he's eyes do follow you, which is pretty darn creepy, you can go to the water to get a good close look on him, he won't hurt you because he's ded. You get a achievement once you killed him. Hope this did help you guys :)

Me and my brother were playing regularly we didn’t go to the island where the guy was at all we didn’t have the drums or shark tattoos but he came out of nowhere and the fight started we were really excited lol he knocked me of my ship and the mermaid came then we left and were super confused lol
By the way you CAN kill the hungering deep boss Edit is I saw someone video it, Anthomnia but the boss got stuck on his ship and couldn't move so he and crew just kept shooting him.
When the megladon dies it stays underwater so if you underwater its body will be there so you did not kill him you just got to far off course btw i love your vids just giving tips.
bere if you kill the shark you will still see the floating body of the shark to take a look at it so probly you can still might do it again i dont know if you kill the shark you get an achivement show in your screen if not you did not kill it and just ran or something..... LOVE YOU BEREGHOSTGAMES
Bere you guys went out of the area. You guys will finish the quest when you kill him. You guys should have lowered anchor and left it at that. You guys should have the shark focus on one ship and shoot from the other ship its a nescesarry sacrifice. Get all the materials you guys need and shoot wherever he is instead of waiting for him.

hey bearghost you should start paying sea of thives again. there is a update with new event,s and new ships. + there is a lava iland areas. also lots of new bosses you can find them with fire markings.

If you dont shoot him enough he will go after a total diffrent ship on the map

if the cannon is empty and you go to the front of it you can get in and fire yourself at ships to board them but you have to aim first.
