This has been an issue in the UK for awhile. People from some countries can't even open accounts with digital banks easily. This has also popped up in the USA and Canada of late. Don't put your eggs all in one basket!

Farage is a well known racist. If you believe in libertarianism (as farage does) you believe private businesses can choose or deny any client they wish.

I remember back in the 1990s my Nigerian friends could not open an account. Also, Americans in the military based in England. At that time Marks & Spencers refused them a store card and also for a long time would not take credit cards at all in their stores The Global banking system really needs a big shake up - they own a lot of the infrastructure and doing all they can to stop crypto from being successful as well.

Well, looking at the other side of things, do you know if they had the necessary documentation n satisfied minimum requirements to open an account ? Coz u don't want any random person to open an account, which we know can be misused n digital banks are quite susceptible to that.

I had been with HSBC for more than 25 years. I opened it because I knew I would be taking short term teaching contracts globally and not knowing much about banking at the time, I only knew that they were a global bank and I could deposit and withdraw in most countries. I have always had my permanent address in Canada and paid taxes here as well. January 2023 they froze my account for 11 weeks claiming they were trying to determine my Country of tax even though I had filled out the required documents they had requested. 11 weeks with zero communication (even though I called daily). beyond frustrating.

That's NOTHING. HSBC Hong Kong froze my account with over $1m USD and another million Euro. They forced me to do a 40 minute interview where they demanded to know such things as
      1) where did the money come from? (Sale of crypto)
      2) when was the first time I purchased Bitcoin?
      3) what was the price of my first Bitcoin purchase?
      4) How many Bitcoin I currently owned?
      5) How many more millions of dollars I intended to deposit to them from Crypto.
      6) many other invasive questions
After that I had to fly to HK and demand they give me a million dollars and a million Euro, in cash, and to close my account permanently.
I ended up having a meeting with the manager and left with an open account and $20,000 in cash.
They did end up appointing me an account manager and issued me 2 unsecured credit cards each with around $22,000 credit limits. This was nice, but I will never forget they left me with no access to my own money for..... Drumroll please.... 3 months in total.

I worked for this banking group, PEP's "politically exposed persons" essentially was a flag on accounts which noted that the account was not to be considered a "normal business"
If Farage has US dealings, particularly where these funds are wired to his UK account, he would have had to declare that the company was controlled by him and that he is politically exposed. If the account was a historic personal account, or a business which was opened without the PEP process being followed, it would be closed as the identifier for the type of business cant be changed after opening. If its 43 years old, its possible that it was opened under another business type.
Now, if he no longer meets the requirements for coutts private banking he cant re-open a new account which carries the PEP flag and he would be advised to open a retail business account with (the sister retail brands) where they can.
There is a good chance that this is a mess up from what is a very badly run bank which is spiralling. However, it illuminates a very important concern we all should have which is access to a bank account, especially when you are a citizen of that country. Regardless of what you believe about Farage, we cannot allow selective rights of citizens based on beliefs...

I'm with the same banking group as Nigel. My account was frozen because I made a measly £10 charitablw donation to a good cause. In my case I got it unfrozen after a fortnight but was unable to speak to a human being for an explanation at any point. Don't fall for the bullshit that you have to be money laundering, abusive, or politically radical to get unbanked. All that is necessary is for the bank to notice you supporting ANY cause they do not agree with. All the banks started doing this recently even thought the legislation they base it on has existed for 20 years. Clearly it is an orchestrated policy of weaponising banking to suppress political dissent of any kind. It is quite simply a coup d'etat aimed at overthrowing democracy.

I had an account closed in Norway. As I had another dormant account in another bank I managed to get this open again, but I was given several sheets of paper which I had to ask all sorts of questions about crypto currency, if I was expecting a sum at over around 10k Euro to be transferred to the account from abroad. Apparently it was to do with new "EU regulations against white washing", well Norway is not even an EU member but what can you do they are like Soviet Union sneaking in upon you. So after around six months I needed to transfer 17k Euro as I sold an apartment in Germany and some of the money was needed in Norway for renovating a cabin. So a few days after I transferred I got a call from a rather annoyed woman in the bank, at least she sounded annoyed. She asked why I had filled out that I was not going to receive any money from abroad when I just had this amount of 17k Euro transferred. So I said well I did not have any plans for that at the time but now I needed it, whats the problem it's not a crime. It's from a German bank to a Norwegian bank so what's the problem?? Last time I checked German banks hardly handled illegal money. Well I needed to send them proof of what and where the money came from, the purpose of it bla bla bla, like I had done something really serious, transferring 17.000 Euro is a problem? Is it a problem for a Norwegian bank to receive money from an approved German bank?? I can understand if it was from Nigeria etc, but Germany? Well after some days I got a mail from the bank saying the "case was closed from their side", I almost got the impression that they had handed it over to the police fraud squad.. Very difficult to do anything these days with money that does not come from an employment situation, or benefits from the state. If you sell anything expensive like a property, a car, an expensive watch, a boat etc you are seriously questioned and treated like a criminal, I was probably lucky they did not close that account too....

My mom had a problem with her bank. They said that her signature was no good. But after some arguing, they accepted her signature. So she then put her signature to the test, and withdrew all her money, and closed the account. In both signature cases, it worked perfectly. My personal experience was with the CIBC bank, who at one point created long ago their own ATM version called the "Instant Teller". However, for some time, there was a delay involved due to the instant teller not being tied directly to the main system. So it could take several days before a deposit actually enters your account. As a result of this delay, my rent cheque bounced. CIBC then tried to charge me $25 for this. I said, "No problem. I can take this to court. You call this an instant teller, yet this is actually a delay teller.". They looked at each other, and then said to me, "Forget about the $25 charge.".

There is an old saying “Be careful what you ask for, you just may get it” In the scenario you present the collective west will reap the whirlwind, because they have a romantic notion of the the alluring beauty of Soviet Era government. As they sink into the mire they also paint themselves into a corner with these sanctions...Essentially they defeat themselves...

Your savings are your dream and the government should not interfere with it. Sadly, your savings are coveted by the state, so they will be spent in a way that supports their agenda. Just as a house is our castle, so our savings are our dreams, and neither of the two should be encroached upon.
Access to banking should not become tied to what someone believes. If we see any trace of this, it indicates that we are falling under a corporate dictatorship.
