I feel like the early to mid 90s was the best era for car enthusiasts. Every car company had a complete lineup of normal cars, sports cars, coupes, trucks and SUVs and the variety was enormous
Plus all of the brands we've lost since the '90s. Saturn, Geo, Isuzu, Suzuki, Mercury, Oldsmobile, Plymouth, and all of the remaining brands that are a hollow shell of what they once were. Honda, Toyota and Mitsubishi are lackluster now compared to the '90s.
@@palebeachbum Pontiac's Grand Am was a major hit. It outsold all other GM small cars during the whole decade and that alone should have justified its continuance for longer than it did. It's a shame what GM did to it.
A lot of attractive models in 1993. Ford added the grill to the Crown Vic for '93 due to complaints from older traditional buyers about the lack of a grill on the '92 redesign. Regarding the Ranger, "...for those who see trucks as an affordable alternative to cars." Boy have times changed! It's the flip-opposite now with trucks being very expensive, which illustrates what a scam the current truck market has become. They were basically affordable, simple tools that served a purpose but are now insanely priced blue-collar luxury limos.
@@waterloo123100 They became like that because of EPA mandated formulas they had to go by to calculate MPG's as manufacturers. Instead of having overall MPG, they made them have a certain MPG per dimensions and weight, which becomes much less efficient the lighter you get. That coupled with their increasingly harsh MPG requirements actually make it impossible to make lighter, smaller vehicles like the 90s Ranger. Instead of having a simple, affordable truck that (with today's technology) could get 35 mpg, you get a l larger, heavier and more complicated, more expensive 25 mpg "Maverick". This is also why you see more hybrids nowadays, which will not hold their value because of the extra complication and batteries. The EPA shouldn't ever be dictating MPGs anyway, I think the market of adult customers can clearly decide what is best. But that's just me.
@@HAL-dm1eh Very educational. Thanks for the insight. I think without any government regulation, manufacturers would be selling us cars with 1970s safety and efficiency. It's because of restrictions that auto manufacturers have had to constantly innovate to improve in these areas.
It’s funny that the tiny little grill on the Crown Vic was described as “detracting from the overall look” back then, but today it’s seems that bigger is better! So many of today’s car have huge gaping front ends.
My father had an emerald green 93 Vic from new, tan leather interior and handling package so it had the nice mesh wheels. Sharp looking car that drove well, all of the different parts included in the handling pkg made it much less floaty than the standard cars.

Hey Motorweek, is there a way for you guys to work this music back into the current program? A Price is Right still keeps its old theme music, and this theme music still gets it point across.
Very nice lineup from Ford still holds its own today. By the end of the 90s my dad bought a green 96 Crown Victoria at the dealer after the Corsica starting falling apart, while he gave the 92 Royale to my mom. 88 has a softer more comfortable ride and pretty nice interior for a GM FWD. Crown Vic also had a pretty nice interior but definitely takes the cake for being more solid all around.
I would love to have the Taurus SHO with the automatic transmission. It is the perfect family performance sedan(I wouldn't call it a sport sedan since it is still FWD). It's too bad they never made a Taurus SHO wagon. That would have been the best American family wagon ever.
@@waterloo123100 that's pure judgement bro .... Those are hatches ... The original comment and mine was directed at these fire sedans ... Like even the Taurus has transversely mounted fwd layout ...come on man
The Crown Vic was one of the smoothest riding and proven platforms by Ford. Their Impala. I still believe letting Mazda go was a bad move in the long term, but Mazda probably would not had advanced as far as it has.
